Westbrook isn't really a PG either, but it works for some teams. Both Selby and Shumpert have very good court Vision. Shumpert being a taller point gives him a very good angle of view. When interviewed Shumpert said that he sees himself as a Pure Point and not a combo guard. Selby views himself as a combo guard. I feel comfortable that Shumpert sees himself as a PG 1st and foremost. He was placed in a position to have to score more this season. I'm sure they had him run PnR and so forth to see if he was a capable play maker in his Ny workout.
You would hope that if the Knicks draft him as a PG, they know he can play the position.
From the video clips I watched of him, which of course are slanted toward scoring, I did not see a guy who is going to handle and distribute the ball for a coach who is dying for a real PG. You figure he can be a SG or combo type guard if he can be a pure PG, but if we draft a guy as a PG I would hope he could play it from the start, and not need to be a project.
