I’m really disappointed and figured this was a community where I’d probably find people with similar experiences. It’s not severe. The only time I feel discomfort is when I’m pushing down (while playing, sometimes going up stairs), and the doctor said I could keep playing. But I know cartilage doesn’t come back (without surgery) and this is the problem that NBA players have microfracture surgery for. How many of you have had the same issue with your knee(s)? I want to keep playing basketball but I hate the idea that I’m doing damage to my knee each time I play. I have an excellent first step going right but it’s because I push off with my right leg very forcefully, and I suspect each time I do that I’m doing more damage to the knee. I don’t want to be 50 and unable to play any sports. Anyone here have similar experiences?
MRI confirmed the doctor's diagnosis. I'm going to take some time off to let my knees heal and try to strengthen my legs. I ordered bball shoes that have really good cushioning. Once I feel ready, I'll give it one more try. I hope my basketball days aren't behind me but I feel it's 50-50 at best. I hate swimming but maybe I can use it to rehab.
Ok, Dr Nalod stayed at a Holiday Inn express!
"time heals", and even basketball injury. Build up other muscles and let the leg adapt. you'll play smarter and ice those knees after. You can play for a long time just have to be smart.
I think you're right. The times when I could play for 3 hours are probably long gone but even if I could play for just 30 or 40 min a week, that would be much better than stopping. I think I'll be able to do that if I give me legs a few weeks of rest first.
