As for the thunder, i believe howard will go there once his contract is done in orl. They will prob lose westbrook as a result, but i think its an easy decision for them to make. That is what will get them to the next level.

I believe you about CP3, but Howard to OKC? no way.

I think the team makes sense, just not the market I see Howard being attracted to. IMHO he lands in a big market city.

his choices:

ny - least chance, no cap room and $ to sign him and he aint coming here for free.

miami - similar to ny in terms of $'s. no room. also, i hear him and bron aint even close to being friendly to each other.

la - tough to convine him to play w an aging kobe, but the idea of 3 7 footers is pretty scary. alot of the lakers future hinges on what brown does next year. it cld be refreshing or revolting.

nj - seriously zipper? he said he didnt want to play in NY, and you thik he'll want to play in NJ? i dont think he like kim kardashian that much....

the 2 rules when trading someone of his caliber are:

1) you trade him to a club in the OTHER conference or
2) if he blocks that, you trade him outside of your own division

only teams that satisfy this mold, and he would want to go to, are the thunder and the lakers. at the end of the day, he wants a ring. where else other than la or okc can he get that quickly? at least with okc, he has a chance at multiple rings - dallas, the spurs, the lakers will all be in transition next year. so, who is left in the west? yup, the thunder.

I see him in LA either as a FA signing (if that's possible with their cap) or being traded there since they can restock Orlando with real talent that can improve their roster.

I don't see an aging Kobe as a problem - he has a few good years left in him. They could make another 3-4 year run with the right roster overhaul and they have more than enough pieces to make good trades.

wait, what? Why doesn't NY have cap room for Howard? They will have Amare, Melo, Balkman, pick #17 2011 and cap hold in summer 2012. That's it.

Portland fits the mold too, and they can offer good players for him in a trade.

good point, but their long term future is so uncertain w roy and oden's health issues.

Problem with all mega trades is you lose depth when making a big trade. Orlando couild also try to move a bad contract. no Howard and still have Turkeyglue and Arenas is not a good core even with assets coming in.

With probable franchise tag these guys will be top paid at position and stuck for two years with big money.

HOward has two more years and has to create a MeloDrama situation to force trade or accept risk of FA which might not be so free with the "Tag".

Personally this "winning" thing is all good verbally but really its not in the players control given the roster it takes to get there.

Miami created a big problem.

Oden has 1 more year at 8 million so its no big deal.

Roy looks to be a solid backup due to his knee issues and loss of athleticism.

funny thing is - knicks shld pick up both these dudes. oden is a good expiring to take a risk on and roy can back-up cp3 on the cheap.

Oden would only be had if you offered him somthing Portland would not match.

Portland might be stupid enough to top a stupid offer.

ONe thing to bank the franchise on Amares knees, but add Oden to that might be asking for too much.

After two years off I don't know if the kid will be an all star going forward or the next LaRue Martin/Sam Bowie.

I guess we can superimpose our medical knowledge on Yao Mings status soon enough.

Thats a large man and If you think Phil Jax looks in pain moving wait until this dude gets older. The rumors they fed him roids to aid growth if true spells trouble on his mortality. I Like Yao. He should enjoy things now.

I hope Paul becomes a Knick but I don't see it.

Howard + Gilbert to NJ for Lopez + ?

how do you match salaries? I just don't see how NJ can pull it off, no assets outside of Lopez.

I know Orlando would like to get rid of Arenas and Turkoglu, but they can't really trade them together for anyone without absolutely robbing the LA Lakers, can they? Besides, they're still over the cap even if they trade one of those guys. If they're focused on getting rid of the bad contracts, then New Jersey won't happen, but if they want to

I bet on Jersey because Jersey doesn't have much in the way of player assets, but they have seven draft picks over the next three years and have to convince Derron Williams to stay next year, so they're going to go all-in to get another star and so they won't care whether he signs or not, just like they did with Derron. It doesn't happen if Dwight Howard publicly forces his way out, but he hasn't done that at all and has said that he wants to be in Orlando next season.

To match salaries today, the Nets trade Morrow, Lopez and Outlaw to Orlando. They also trade two first-round picks in 2012, a second round pick this year, and another first and second in 2013 or 2014. Sure, Orlando's taking bad contracts back, but with all the draft picks they can bring in talent to build the team around Lopez as the older guys and the bad contracts phase out. If Orlando pulls the trigger, they're not good next year but they have three first round picks in what will be an unusually strong draft class in 2012, and probably have a shot at the #1 pick because they're not very good. If they have a bad year then hit on one or two of those three picks and keep Lopez, they'll quickly get back to contention.

Anyway you slice it, Orlando's going into a long-term rebuilding mode if they can't convince Howard to stay, so why wouldn't they consider it?
