Again, do you have any evidence that it was not mentioned? We are making wild assumptions unless I missed something. Secondly you mentioned that the guys were mentally worn out. Possibly it was mentioned and they were so "mentally tired" that they missed it. Even if it was mentioned and D'Antoni and his band of extremely experienced coaches decided to spend the entire timeout letting the guys rest and gather some of the mental faculties they lost. Or they spent the entire time out discussing what happens if the celtics miss free throws. Or even if they spent the entire time out talking about the hot blond behind the bench. If you are a star, that wants to prove himself as one of the greats, and play on Olympic teams, and have commercials, and lead posses, and call yourself a leader, you simply cannot place blame on anyone but yourself if you forget to foul a man with 4 seconds left and down 1. What did he think the score was? Did he think he was winning?
Dude, I never claimed to know what D'Antoni did or did not discuss in the timeout, I've challenged YOUR assertion that it's "ridiculous" to expect D'Antoni to mention it in the last timeout of a 4 second game.
The stakes are extremely high, the players are fatigued, some are very young and inexperienced. A coach can take nothing for granted. To think they have no need to discuss how to defend the inbounds and stop the clock as quickly as possible is the truly ridiculous assertion of this thread.
