Single most important factor is what's been our weak point all year: center. If we can get some decent big man production (defense counts) from the 5, I think that will keep us in games. That's *big man* production. That does not mean JJ2 chasing around point guards. Valuable or not, that's not what I'm talking about. If we don't get anything from this position, the plus-minus at this position may be the difference in the games. Look for Big Baby to have a career series.

I'm hoping Rony and Sheldon can step up big.

The Tangibles

Cuts (New York Knicks – Weaknesses)

"The Knicks’ biggest strength also leads to the Knicks’ biggest weakness, and that is cutting off of the basketball. When either Carmelo Anthony or Amar’e Stoudemire get the basketball in isolation situations, their teammates tend to stand there and watch the action. This is what has lead to the Knicks only using the cut as part of their offense 6% of the time. With a team that has two players who can isolate their man like Anthony and Stoudemire, you would expect that cut number to be higher.

This is because defenses tend to load up against a guy when he isolates. As we have seen with the Celtics’ offense, when teams load up, cutting lanes are open. When teams stand around and watch the basketball, they make things easier for the defense than it should be."

- Sebastian Pruiti

The Intangibles

Travla - a significant majority of the Knicks roster has only been wearing orange and blue for less than six months. Bill Walker and Toney Douglas are the tenured Knicks, and they do not start. The Boston Celtics core has been together through a few more battles, and as a result, they simply know (and trust) one another better.

It will take a gargantuan collective effort to steal a game in TD Garden.

The good news is that we have enough poise (Billups) and experience (Amare) to do it, and absolutely nothing to lose. It cannot be a solo (Carmelo) act. It must be a team thing. If anyone in a Knicks uniform gets knocked to the floor and the other four guys do not sprint over to pick him up, something is missing.

Substitutions?

Do you think the Knicks have a superior bench compared to Boston?

No, which is why substitutions are important. We aren't a deep team so instead of a tight rotation, D'Antoni needs make this more of a chess match and expand it. I don't want to see Jeffries get too many minutes. Or Williams if he can't hit the three, or Douglas if he can't move the ball around or his shooting is off. It means more subbing.

Gustav - it is not quantity but quality. It is not so simple as going deeper if the guys you go deep with are less talented. The sad fact is that the Knicks cannot match the quality, or size, on the Celtics bench.

For example, it might shake out like this:

6'3 Delonte West ... 6' Toney Douglas
6'9 Jeff Green... 6'9 Shawne Williams
6'5 Von Wafer... 6'2 Anthony Carter
7' Nenad Krstic averaging 8 and 4 ... 6'11 Jared Jeffries with the things that do not show up on the stat line
6'11 Troy Murphy ... 6'9 Shelden Williams
7'1 Shaquille O'Neal ... 6'10 Ronny Turiaf

Carlos Arroyo...
Avery Bradley or ...

Boston is probably going to double and maybe triple Melo or Stat at times and force the rest of the team to do the damage, especially when Jeffries is out there because 99 percent of the time it becomes a game of 4 on 5. I doubt the Knicks are going to beat them on the defensive end so its important to try to win the same way they have been all season, by running up the score.

If a smaller rotation is cutting it, then fine, but I've seen too many games this year where D'Antoni went with the same lineup for too long. If the supporting cast isn't cutting it, the talent level of this bench is pretty even, not a significant drop. Its more of a question of who has the hot hand and what they bring to the table.

You can play some great D and still lose, unless you believe that any team can hold another team completely scoreless. Our best defense is a strong offense. If we're hitting and clicking like we can it's going to put pressure on the C's, but of course we have to play D. The C's are tough cuz they shoot a GREAT FG% and they defend. We have to put pressure on their D and get into them. Cause them to put us on the line by attacking them constantly. This is one of the strengths of our offense. Our best players draw a lot of fouls.

My key to the series is Knick ball movement and player movement. When we move the ball and have motion teams just can't key in on D and we score. I think we'll score against the C's. This team has come a long way since the last time we played them.

Another copy n paste post from you.

You have a better chance of winning in the postseason by having defense as your best offense than vice versa.

Douglas' defense has frustrated Delonte in the past and Bradley played well in the last game. Rivers might go to him if West doesn't cut it. Obviously d'A will try to push the pace. In the playoffs will Rondo shoot or layups only? Billups is strong and smart. He'll be after fouls.

These guys did it last year. One of the first two would have me dancing on tables I think. Maybe something clicks for these guys ,eh?

"Ronny Turiaf told me last night that he is thinking about shaving his beard for the playoffs. Would that be like a reverse playoff beard? When I asked him the last time his cheeks were hairless, he replied, "In college, in 2005."

My one thing: they need to be able to weather the Paul Pierce runs and have an answer for them. They didn't in the last game at the Garden and it killed them.

The number one thing will be to win game one. We absolutely must win game one. We can win with rebounding. We have better rebounding in the backcourt, while they have better rebounding in the frontcourt. If we can take advantage of that, on defense- we'll be in it. Boston's strategy will be based around getting the ball to Jeffries because thats a lost possession from us, a lot of the time. If JJ can keep himself from trying to do too much with the ball and he should know what that means( nothing from the outside of 3 feet from the basket), if he can do that consistently- we got a chance. If Boston sees that the ball does not stop when Jeffries gets it- they will be scared. If Jeffries decides to fumble it- that will give them a huge momentum boost, to see their strategy working. If we do not allow them to take advantage of our weak spot- we'll have a nice psychologic edge.

I can pretty much guarantee our best players will go long and take even more of the bulk of the shots. In the playoffs you don't have to worry about wearing your guys out. Each game can be played like a game 7 cuz there's so much more rest.

I think Mike is going to work with the team on getting more motion off the ball and force the Celtic's to move much more on D. Expect the spread offense to be much more effective with STAT back in there and feeling more energetic. I think we'll get back to attacking the basket more and getting to the line. I think it will be easier now that we'll be back at full strength.

If Jared Jeffries is any determining factor whatsineva on offense, we are in deep trouble.

Turiaf shaving his beard will increase his left. At 6'8, Ronny will need every advantage possible to be aerodynamically sound.

with this team, the single most important factor is that the 3s have to go down or else they're doomed—and that's going to be a crap shoot.

This, I think is key. Shut Rondo down for at least 4 or 5 games out of 6 or 7, and I like how we stack up against the post-experienced Celts. Winning rings and being out of the league are things that happen insanely quick. Especially in your late 30's.

Take Rondo out of either game one or two. I don't care how or why.

Emotion

The Boston home crowd will possibly have an affect on how the game is officiated. If the refs let them play, the physical advantage the Celtics have up front could work to their advantage. If the refs decide to call the game close, as a preemptive move against any thuggeration, it could work in the Knicks favor. Carmelo Anthony is superior off the dribble and knows how to draw contact. Landry Fields needs to keep driving the lane and not avoid contact. We have become one of the best free throw shooting teams in the league and Chauncey don't miss.

We all know they have to play good D and stuff, but the biggest factor for the Knicks is going to be whether or not they hit shots.
