Like a person who really hates Mexicans always telling you about his half mexican friend from middle school and his nanny as an argument to why he has nothing against them.
Just saying............ but to the thread, why of the 16teams in the playoffs are the knicks about 25% of this discussion???
your right... its been forced. 100%.
The bottom line is I'm working on it. I did NOT like the trade. I was all into building this team up with young talent. We were the 4th youngest team in the league and had a lot of size and skill. We had a star in Amare who could show these guys what it takes to win, to be an all star, etc.
I was enjoying watching some dark years turn into good young players getting better in front of our eyes. Then we had those moments, beating the Spurs, OKC, the Heat, NO... watching our young guys be a part of something we were building. Then we dumped them all for Melo. A guy who I like, but had holes in his game (mentioning those = hater). I thought we overpaid. Also gone were any players I felt a connection too. The team felt like junkie spare parts and a couple of hired guns. I like the old team and I like the process of developing young talent and the deep roster we had. This team feels bought to me. I've always had an emotional connection to the team in general and the trade killed a lot of that.
That being said....
No matter how pissy I was about the trade if you actually read any of my posts during which one of the things I always talked about no matter what we gave up was that there were alot of things about Melo to like and get behind. Starting with the fact that he WANTED to be a Knick and this was his first and foremost desired place to play. That means something to me.
The bottom line for this poster is...
a Knick fan. I love the team. I will not follow any other basketball team NBA or otherwise with any passion or interest. I watch a lot of NBA games at the gym, at bars, etc.. but I would never and could never root for another team. I WANT the Knicks to win. I WANT the Knicks to be great. I have NEVER EVER rooted against a Knick player while he wore this uni. Not Marbury, or anyone else. I always HOPED guys like Curry, Crawford (like him), Zach (liked him), etc etc would pull together and do something special. Now I didnt EXPECT them too, because I was realistic and they were not very good players.
I WANT the VMarts, TMSs and Jrszhuslters of the board to make their snide comments about how I didnt like the trade when Melo brings us a title. I want that big big. Those will be good times. I will be the wall and those monkeys can throw their sh!t at it.
I DID NOT embrace Melo immediately because
a) his effort was poor, especially on defense
b) he complained about the coach openly and the schemes were too hard to grasp (keep that crap in house)
c) when he had poor games he skirted out and avoided the media
d) when he played poorly he complained about calls to refs while the other team scored in transition
AS OF NOW
I'm all in with this team again. When apathy creeps back in yea... I have to remind myself I love the Knicks. I do NOT harbor an ounce of bitterness about the trade or anything else. I just want the Knicks to beat the Celtics (an extension of Red Sux nation who can all eat the peanuts and corn out of my sh!t).
Sorry to be so wordy, but your right. Its forced, because I have no emotional connection to this team. I'm not a ra-ra guy with anything in life. I'm a master of patience. Slow and steady wins the race, and enjoy the little things along the way. To me watching a team develop makes the winning sweeter. It certainly did with the Yanks watching Jeter, Pettitte, Mo, Bernie, etc... thats what I was hoping for. Didnt get it.. life goes on. It doesnt mean I'm not going to embrace this team, Melo, MDA, Walsh, etc...
LAST POINT (say thankya if you have read this far)
On MDA... I'm not in love with this coach. I think he's good, and I think he's a very good fit considering we are building around a pair of elite scorers with suspect defense. Mostly I think MDA has had some pretty crappy rosters and did OK and I would like the guy to get a shot with some decent players, which we certainly have now. Nothing more complicated than that.
