This is not true. Knicks have exactly 2 contracts that extend past 2011-2112 - Melo and Stat (3 of you count Balkman).
Yes, 2 max's take up a large percentage of the cap, but the knicks will have more than a third of their cap space freed up (if they decide to go that route in 2012) and (again, besides Balkman), not a bad, long-term contract in site.
Knicks in fact is pretty solid shape cap wise.
Cap wise there are only 9 teams that have more committed for the 2012-2013 season;
Hawks
Bulls
Mavs
Pistons
Lakers
Heat
Hornets
Magic
Blazers
There are 19 teams that have less in committed contracts;
Celtics
Bobcats
Cavs
Nuggets
Warriors
Rockets
Pacers
Clippers
Grizzlies
Bucks
Wolves
Nets
Thunder
Sixers
Suns
Kings
Spurs
Raptors
Jazz
The Heat are in the worst shape....$67 million + in guaranteed money to 6 playes; Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Miller, Haslem and Anthony with that figure going above $70 million the following year....ouch.
