Does this mean that they are capable of giving a strong effort on defense and can play good defense if the coaching staff demands it of them? So why only now?

i doubt it has anything to do with the coaching staff to be honest with you. i just think this team wants it more now (or atleast this game they do)

The point is that they can play good defense and give a good effort on that end. It's not that they aren't defensive minded players so it's not worth bothering as some people here seem to think. And I disagree that the coaching staff has nothing to do with getting their team to play hard on defense. That's exactly what their job demands.

i agree with you about the coaching staff and all that. i'm just saying, i don't think all the sudden the coaching staff has started preaching defense and is imploring them to play defense, i just think these guys feel like playing it tonight.

That's deplorable and an indictment of Antoni if they haven't been doing it just because they didn't feel like it.

Off Topic but Sixers are really good..very competitive team..we need some two way athletes on this team..don't have to be spectacular..that's what we missed in Chandler and Gallo. We should be able to get them through drafts and free agency in the off season. Also Fields will get better in off season

Anubis was pining for Gilbert Arenas in the offseason and he looks like one of the worst players in the league.

Blame MDA when they don't play defense, blame MDA when they do play defense. No wonder this board is chock full of lively conversation these days.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

It's the head coach's job to demand that his team play defense all the time. That's the point. Is it really that hard to understand?

Which is why I'll never understand the "Stat and Melo aren't defensive players" or "We just don't have 2 way players."

Coaching is ALWAYS responsible for the emphasis and development of defense.

Good Defensive effort. Offense still isn't flowing well, we should be blowing them out.
Chauncey found someone gimpier than him hes taking it to the hole more, but he's still
taking too many bad shots.

CHauncey is 1 for 4 from 3 and I can't remember him taking 1 god 3.

Too many cats have a green light. TD has 7 shots.

Billy Walker looked alright. He shoudl get some more looks.

Islesfan is right....it's crap that they don't play defense like the first half every night. And I'm not so sure it'll continue into the 2nd. Let's hope they don't pat themselves on the back for 1 half of good D.

Child2Dudley I agree 100% on Shelden....why the fu*k isn't he taking Jeffries' minutes? It's good to see Billy Walker though. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more minutes in light of Shawne Williams' poor shooting lately. Anthony Carter's motor continues to impress me.

They need to keep bringing it in the 2nd half. only a matter of time before Dwight goes off. Melo needs to be on the floor for 20-22 minutes next half. We need to win a game where we are actaully trying.

2 Way players in terms of having some sort of shot of hitting a layup...we have some atrocious offensive players in our rotations..or very one dimensional. Jefferies, Shelden Williams, Turiaf in terms of atrocious..and Mason, Shawne Williams, Bill Walker in terms of one dimensional. Lack of playmakers.

I'm kinda impressed with TD's playmaking at some moments. He has to look to penetrate more. Good things happen when he breaks down the D. He has that ability.

I see that too..I think he actually plays it too safe sometimes..like he doesn't wanna throw a bad pass..especially on the pick n roll. He needs some confidence in it..Hopefully by next season he adds finishing the pick and roll better to his repertoire. I was down on him most of the season..pause..but I think he can be a great asset.

refs are really letting them play. I have seen so many guys on both teams holding a player who doesn't have the ball.

Howard is the MVP. no player has an impact like him on both ends. We're playing him well tho.
