"What is it, March 23rd (It was 25th, actually), and we can go out and find a really good player that's going to compete in the NBA playoffs as a center? Fifteen teams need one and you're going to go pick one up? That's a little bit of fantasy basketball to me," D'Antoni said. "I just don't see it, and this late in the season he's going to be able to learn all the plays and get in the system? And he's not as good as another guy in there that we've got at the 4-5? I think you're grasping at straws."I like Earl and he's a good guy. But is he better than Shelden Williams? Is he better than guys that are in there? I like him, but I just don't think that's where we want to be right now," D'Antoni said.
First of, while 15 teams need help at center, those 15 at least have a viable option in the starting lineup or the bench. Who the heck do we have? Crystal Turiaf is the only decent option and he can't seem to play consecutive games because of injury. Jeffries? A 6'8" Sheldon Williams? Really? This guy is insane.
Fantasy basketball? That is the best way to describe the joke he is putting out there with this new team.
Unsure that he will learn the plays? Doesn't it help a little that he has been here and played in the system. Even if he does have problems, it isn't like he would be the only one, with a cerebral guy like Billups finding this system the hardest to learn in his whole career.
"Better than Sheldon?" Who cares if he doesn't even play Sheldon. And if you care, lets just say, for starters, that Barron IS really a center.
Yeah, "I don't think that's where we want to be right now". Right, like a true center that could help our horrible deficiencies of rebounding and defense. But we don't need Barron, nor any other center, for that matter. We can win with a ridiculously small lineup. As a proof, just watch the winning streak we're on at the moment.
