- timing is everything. “To me, I think the worst problem, if it was a problem, is when the trade was made,” Jerry West said of the Anthony deal, which was consummated after the All-Star break. “They had established a pattern of play and they gave up a lot of players to get two very good players.”

- your mate looked better when they were with someone else. West said the term (superstars)“is thrown around much too loosely” and that there are only four or five in the N.B.A. He called Stoudemire and Anthony “All-Star caliber players.”

- a great marriage takes time. “I think people are looking for instant gratification,” he said. “With New York, there’s just so much more scrutiny. If someone goes outside and coughs, he’s got pneumonia or something.”

I think I am in agreement with that statement.

he's mot a superstar and never was. He's not a top 10 player. He's an all star. He's a top 5 scorer but he really is a poor defender. He's a notch above Allan Houston in terms of talent. Vince Carter or a pre injury Arenas is where Melo is.

This can be fixed by Walsh. The problem is Walsh isnt going to be here. Its going to be Allan Houston, or Isiah or that fat guy whatever his name is.

I would put both Melo and Amare in the same high-level all-star category. Amare's presence seems to bring more but I haven't followed Melo's career closely enough.

Seeing Stars

Lead Guard - former all star who happens to be homesick
Two Guard - star of the Modell's video and future star
Three - current star but not quite a superstar but good enough to star in New York mini drama
Four - current star who needs to rest his aching knees... people in MSG need to stop chanting "MVP". Any "knowledegable" hoops fan knows that is Derrick Rose.
Five - need a borderline wanna-be star but I'd settle for Marvin Webster in a heartbeat
Sixth man - star? ... don't need no steenkin' star, just need a consistent contribution off the bench, is asking 10 points and 5 rebounds asking too much?

once a knick always a knick
