Honor code is an "Honorable" thing to do. The studants make a commitment and do missionary work. Missiaonary position is more what I looked for at that age but many religions and cultures in different forms do it.It teaches self discipline and there is a sense of accomplishment. IM not selling it, I don't hold my kids to that standard, and I do like cafinated drinks. I guess they think its a drug.
Then there is poligamy.
It aspires to the beautiful and positive. Good for them. Look, the modern world would not be possible without some level of individual repression, or it's better to say control. It's all fun and games to be willy nilly, but you can't build a society on willy nilly, anything-goes liberation. Their code is in line with things beautiful. Family, healthy house, support of family and group members. Positive control, good stuff.
Any person that's worth a damn, take a scientist or a chess master or a top violinist, they checked themselves at the coat rack, they put their energies in control. That's awesome.
This is the one and only time, probably, that i am agreeing with you. Sort of. For the most part. The problem with their whole deal is that they have RIDICULOUS ways to accomplish the things that you speak of. Family, healthy house, support of family and group members? GTFO you are allowed to bang anyone who will sigh a piece of paper, that some people, myself included, would use to wipe ass. Except that our society puts that piece of paper in such high regard that there are religions that use it to justify screwing anything that moves AND willing to sign the said piece of paper. Humans are good inside. Religions take advantage of our inner wish to be good. The more weird stuff the religion includes, the more weird stuff you are allowed to do. People buy into it.
