Utah has agreed to trade All-Star point guard Deron Williams to Nets in multi-player package, Yahoo! Sports has learned. Deal is done.

LOL nets also got the better player!!!!!!!

the offered a better package.

Good for them

All you can hope is that we shopped our offer around to Utah and New Orleans while Denver was balking at the deal. If we did our due diligence, then I'm fine with it.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

fishmike wrote:great trade for NJ. Deron and Melo are in the same caliber, and NJ paid less then they would have for Melo, but not much less. Favors was their pick after a season where they were the worst team in the league. Harris is a hell of a talent if he's ever healthy and they gave up multiple #1s also trading recent lottery picks like Williams and Jingaling to get those picks.

If you dont think NJ didnt give up as much as the Knicks your really not paying attention

I think this is a good move by Utah (considering their circumstances, etc) and a big risk move by NJ (but one they perhaps have to take as others have suggested, especially considering their move and Blueprint LOL).

Utah gets a decent PG. They get a young big. Reports are that the 2 picks are NJ next year and then GSW's pick. Not too bad. Utah gets 3 young, upside players (2 picks and Favors) with low salary.

Denver has pretty much nipped it in the bud Gallo is not being moved. George Karl wants to coach him and he's been named a starter. The Nugz would have to be blown away Dolan derail negotiation style to give him up.

gallo is going to be a star in denver... karl will help him a lot.. GO GALLO!!

WOw, didn't see this one coming at all. I can't see D-Will resigning with the Nets. The only player on their roster who is decent is Lopez and he's still soft for a big.

So they got rid of their first coach killer and have now acquired another?

Sweet.

Straight up talent for talent perhaps NY's offer was better.

But do you guys really think Utah would want to assume Chandler who needs to be extended and Gallo who needs to be extended in a year for 4 more years of a controlled Favors contract and 2 others who will be the same?

its a push... and look at the overall cost. Chandler was a mid first rounder, Mos and Felton were signed outright, only Gallo was the lottery pick.

Nets had worst record and just traded the player that draft yielded. Then they trade Yi/Williams their other lottery picks and include those in the trade plus Deven Harris who's an all star if he's ever healthy.

There is not a big gap in the packages... what made the Knicks offer so attractive was the $18mm it saved the Nuggets and the trade exceptions created which they can trade for picks

I certainly wouldnt say the KNicks gave up more.

and gave up less. I am sorry, gallo, chandler, felton, moz are better...

I don 't agree... Nets gave up a former All Star, as talented a big man prospect as there is, and an unproven franchise's picks. I think Favors has the highest upside of any of the players in all of the deals.

I'm not saying the Knicks didn't give up a lot. I'm just saying Harris was attractive enough for Jason Kidd, Favors has talent but limited experience and can be trained by Utah's staff, and I don't think moving the team is going to magically turn the Nets' fortunes around

either way both Knicks and Nets paid a ransom to add star talent, which just enforces the point. You have to pay a ransom to get star talent

What a nutty trade. How will they re-sign him? They need to get at least another big time scorer in order for him to want to stay there

They are kicking themselves now for signing Outlaw for that ridiculous contract.

not by much and Felton's age (8? 9 years younger?) and much smaller salary make him the more valuable player. Billups will win you more games this year but he's old and a stop gap. Worst case is you could always extend Felton and have a high caliber rotation guy at a critical position

I hope that DWill leaves the scumbucket Nets high and dry, signing NO extension with them.
That would be Karma kicking them in the teeth for trying to sabotage the Knicks' transactions.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

We have our answer...

STEIN_LINE_HQ
Under current NBA rules, D-Will isn't eligible to sign an extension w/Nets until July 9. So this can NOT be an extend-and-trade like Melo

And the first chance he had to sign extension will be AFTER a new CBA is ratified.

NJ just took a HUGE, HUGE chance.

Not sure about this one from the Nets perspective. They gave up A TON. The Nets are nowhere near a playoff team and those picks will be pretty valuable. They gave up four pretty valuable pieces to get Deron, and there's a chance they won't even be able to resign him.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

This is essentially NJ's October offer for Melo. Wojo is reporting that they can't resign him until July 9.

yeah I don't think Billups is an upgrade. He's obviously good, but there's no way he can play as many minutes as Felton. Which means way too much of Toney Douglas

NJ just took a HUGE, HUGE chance.

Who else can the Nets get to entice him to stay there? They banking on Dwight Howard or something?

Utah did a nice job of reloading. The problem is they lost their coach.
