u can draw many parallels to the Melo comparisons with Gallo or Wilson to how much better Amare was in comparison to David Lee... statswise, no u can't say the guy was "3 times better" from a pure numbers basis... the difference lies in the impact those players have on the game being played, how much easier they make the game for their teammates by shouldering the offensive load on a nightly basis, how much more attention they command from opposing defenses to try & stop them, which inevitably opens up opportunities for other guys to do things on the floor... was David Lee a better investment from a "value per dollar" standpoint than Amare was? i think that point's already been shot to hell at this point when you see the results having a presence like him does for your franchise.

I agree 100% that Amare's value relative to David Lee's value makes Amare a bargain at $100 Million (if in fact $100 Million dollar bargains actually exist.) Amare has brought a swagger to the team that David Lee never came close to delivering. Once the Knicks were confident that if they could stay close late in the game, they would win more than their share, it happened over and over. Also Amare absorbed double teams himself allowing his teammates to shoot more open shots.

What I don't agree with is that if Amare, a super star, brought a large extra dividend to the Knicks, that bringing in a second super star will automatically double that dividend. Amare's impact was so great because he played within MDA offensive system before. Gallo, Wilson, and Landry are all more efficient scorers than Melo is and they also now know the system. If Melo insists on taking his normal number of shots, from his normal places, he will score less points per attempt than the people he is taking shots away from. Also he will spread the floor less efficiently as well.

In the words sung by Cab Calloway in Porgy and Bess, "it ain't necessarily so."

i agree i don't expect the exact same kind of impact right off the bat that Amare brought because Melo will take some time to get used to the system... but i do think by adding a second superstar to the roster, it takes a ton of pressure off everyone else on the team, including Amare, to produce on a nightly basis... it gives MDA another powerful weapon to utilize in his offensive schemes... being the offensive genius that he is recognized as being i see no reason why he wouldn't be able to utilize Amare & Melo to the best of their abilities playing together in SSOL... tell me who do u really think other teams are going to be afraid of letting them be beat by in games, Melo or Gallo/Wilson? who do u think other teams will have to actively gameplan for? & tell me who u think makes it that much harder for other teams to gameplan for Amare too.

My point was Gallo is more marketable than Wilson.

Wilson has no charisma on or off the court in comparison.

As a ball player y'all can argue what ever you want. They are different. One is better at something as is the other.

If I have to pick one black player and one white then I might pick Gallo for one slot, and Turiaf for the other. He is more extroverted and has a higher profile.

I for one absolutly love watching Wilson play and would be very happy if no choice had to be made and we keep him!

NBA will market its black, white, and chinese players. Dirk gets little exposure compared to Nash.

Nalod - you should have made your point in the first place. Of course, Gallo is more "marketable" than Wilson Chandler. Marketing was not the issue. The issue is perception and personal bias. Which we all have.

Marketing is a function of identifying a consumer you are trying to connect with. Marketing and basketball are two different things. When they come together, a franchise has a valuable commodity in a player. Gallo meets the preferences of a specific demographic that Cablevision finds desirable for their purchasing habits. If Gallo plays well it is a huge plus towards the bottom line of selling advertising space for products who want to be associated with The NYK brand.

With that said, would you care to explain the charisma that Gallo has off the court?

Perception is he dates hollywood babes, writes a book in italy, has more endorsement deals here and in Europe, and he if he is as he appears he can date my daughter.

Wilson might be the nicest guy, good sense of humor and very intelligent. I don't know. He is the quiet man. I love his cool on the court.

What do I know? He smokes weed in dark ally's with chicks. But not with my daughter!

If you tell me Gallo beats women and Wilson volunteers to walk women home on campus so they are safe or helps champion womens shelters from abuse you will tell me something I don't know and it will change my perception for sure. I just don't know much about Wilson.

Its not about a negative image, just a very neutral one. Thats his thing, thats cool.

I agree. Gallo has more of it than Wilson.

you guys are talking about the wrong stats if your comparing the two players

http://espn.go.com/nba/team/stats/_/name/ny/new-york-knicks

Both have an identical PER. Its a dopey stat but its good for gauging a player's overall production in all facets of the game. Gallo's is 16, Chandler's is 16.2

Both have identical AFG% (adjusted FG% factoring in 3's) Gallo's is 51% where Chandler's is 52%

However when it comes to effeciancy its not even close. Gallo leads ALL scorers on the Knicks with a 1.505 PPS (points per shot), where Chandler's is 1.194

To put this massive difference in perspective lets say both Gallo and Chandler take 20 shots in a game.
On average Gallo is scoring 30 points on those shots, where Chandler is scoring 24. Thats a huge swing in production.

Just look at the #s... Both players are scoring 16ppg but Gallo does it on almost 4 fewer shots.

I have said this a ton of times... both are really good players, both are getting better and despite both being true 3s with the ability to play some 2 and 4 they compliment each other quite well. How many nights have we seen opposing teams able to deal with one but not both?

I'm a big fan of Chandler, and ultimatly hope we retain him and use the cap space for a center or enforcer type over Melo, but if Melo is the goal.

As for Mosgov.. nobody is keeping him down. He earned a chance to start and turned out he wasnt ready. Maybe now he is. There is not agenda aside from the Knicks needs size but the coach will play smaller players if they are playing better

Gallo is better at getting to the line, too, which is pretty huge - he has more than twice the FT attempts that Wilson does this year. And he's a year younger.

Wilson is a great young player - don't want to take anything away from him at all. But to say he is clearly superior to Gallinari is just silly. They both do certain things extremely well, they both have holes in their games.

Well Spoken

Let me first say I would like to keep both Gallo and Chandler. Both seem to have good character and demeanors and their stats are comparable although Gall is more efficient as shown by the incredibly high PPS but to keep this in perspective remember this his Gallo's second full year and Chandler's fourth. In addition, in the MDA system, Gallo is supposed to be outside spreading the D (thereby cutting down on his boards) and his upside may be that of a PF (depending on body developement. Could not imagine any knick fan wanting or not wanting a player because of his complexion ( if that matters to them-they are probably not fans of this sport.

Secondly this was supposed to be about holding back TMoz but none of us has been at practices and while he had one great games there will be ones where he looks like he did at the start of the season. It does show the upside-let's enjoys the bumpy ride.
