Walsh is the seasoned vet, Uriji the rookie. If anyone is going to get desperate in this situation, it'll be the Nuggets - they're the ones that HAVE to make a move, not the Knicks.

The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

Put it this way

The Nets offered 3 picks Derrick favors (just picked #2 this year) Devin harris and they would take back another two player salaries--AND DENVER still wanted more. Its pretty simple--wait until FA. If the Knicks feel they need to get some assets for Wilson now--he would certainly be a hot commodity at the deadline. That wat we keep fields and Gallo, get what we can for Randolph and chandler this year and dump non core salary cap with it. Denver is not making a deal with anyone.

Silly to expect Denver to take any offer right now. They will drag this out until the very last minute on February 24. Donnie Walsh just needs to sit back and wait for the phone to ring.

Why with a few hours left in the trading deadline I would drop my offer--why not--theyre dead to rights. This deal is on the tabelf ro 3 more weeks then like the Nets you pull it.

agreed... Denver is gonna scan the league for all possible offers from other teams before they engage the Knicks in any serious talks... the Nuggets know the Knicks are interested in talking trade... it's up to them to come to the table now & deal in good faith if they have any desire to do so... otherwise we may have no other choice but to wait til the summer & hope Melo signs here as a FA.

Knicks offer for Anthony turned down by Nuggets: report

The Knicks offered Wilson Chandler, Landry Fields and a first-round draft pick to the Nuggets in exchange for Carmelo Anthony but were turned down, ESPN 1050 Radio reports.

The Knicks are strongly considered to be a destination for Anthony, a free agent to be, now that the Nets have called off talks that also involved the Pistons.

Anthony did not attend Nuggets shootaround Friday but coach George Karl said he expects the All-Star to play against the Rockets.

Wednesday, Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov pulled his team from talks with the Nuggets, saying they had become too expensive. The Nets would have parted with up to eight players and up to three first-round picks if the deal had been completed.

The Knicks said they would not rush into talks after learning of the Nets' withdrawal.

The first-round pick the Knicks would deal has not been acquired by them yet, the report says. Rumors have them sending Anthony Randolph to the Timberwolves for a first-round pick if need be.

I have to call BS on this silly report. Why would we offer our starting 2 guard for Melo? Melo is ours anyway. . .

Fields is more of a natural SF than he is a SG, no? would seem to make sense if the Nuggets are going to trade Melo they'll want a young cheap talent w/upside to take his place in the rotation

I don't think fields is a SG(2 Guard) you want to say wing player ok but not prototypical 2 man.

i agree, he's more of a swingman... not a natural 2G.

Denver has been unrealistic about this from the start. That Nets deal was outrageous, but NJ is desperate. The Knicks are not desperate and since Denver's leverage is weaker now, they have to lower their expectations a lot. I'm pretty sure we'll up our offer but Denver has to be sensible too in order to make a deal work. They can't expect another Nets type deal to ever be offered at this point. That ship as sailed.

It's disturbing that that was our first offer. We shouldn't have been giving up that much in our final offer.

It is a decent offer. Not great but OK. It means Denver will listen and lets other teams know that we are serious. No one will offer more to just rent Melo for the rest of this season. Denver will try to get us to take one of their "bad" contracts, but we don't have to.

Way too low - A contending team would give up more than this to just rent Melo for the rest of this season.

They would hang up on us if we made that offer to them. Donnie would not even insult them by putting up such an offer.
