all we need is Melo. Duh.

This team needs time. Thats what it needs. After ten years of losing we are clearly a playoff team but more importantly one with a very parts who are getting better. Just be patient. time is on our side... we arent the Celtics.

"Nene – Denver Nuggets: Could the argument be made that there is a potential free agent on the Nuggets roster that might actually be a better fit in New York than Carmelo Anthony?? While the Knicks have Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, and Landry Fields to man the wing positions – they don't have a beast in the middle. Nene (originally drafted by the Knicks) battled inconsistency and injuries early in his career, but has been one of the league's best all-around big man over the last few years. He scores plenty (averaging a career-high 15 ppg this season), shoots a very high percentage form the floor (currently at 63%), and isn't afraid to mix it up down low. Far more is made of the situation involving Carmelo, but Nene has the option to become an unrestricted free agent this summer as well - he has a player option worth $11.6 million for the 2011-2012 campaign. Thus, Denver has no guarantees he will stay in the Rockies long-term. A Nene/Amar'e tag-team upfront would be an incredibly imposing combination. However, prying him from Denver would obviously be extremely difficult, considering the Nuggets have hinted strongly they aren't interesting in what Walsh can bring to the table.

Read more NBA news and insight: http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=18377#ixzz1AUlxmu9x"

If Nene is interested in having a run at winning a championship, why do the Knicks have to make a trade with the Nuggets?

Another voice of reason ...that we need another "Big" to be able to beat the best teams. And Turiaf needs to be healthy if we are to win, so getting another Big is good back-up for us. To get another inside Big, we don't have to gut the team as we would if we trade for Melo now. Go to it Donnie.

Lakers' down-low dominance presents problems for Knicks
ESPN Passport - Jared Zwerling

Guarding the paint has been one of the Knicks' (21-14) biggest obstacles this season, especially against the league's elite teams. In their loss to the Celtics (28-7) on December 15, the Knicks allowed 62 points in the paint -- 18.3 above the Cs average. And in their loss to the Heat (29-9) on December 28, the Knicks gave up 56 points in the paint -- 21.4 above the Heat's average.

Giving up our only other point guard in Douglas is not a smart trade when you have a chance to get melo in the off season. As it stands, dantoni has an 8 man rotation period.

Currently his top 8 is 9 if you include gallo.

If Denver wants something from us, it's everyone ELSE outside of that top 9 or lose him for nothing or fleece another team.

I know this is a trade proposal board and I feel bad raining on the parade, but do we really feel giving up players for melo is the right thing to do if we can wait it out and see what we have by the end of the year.

Back to the thread title, BRIGGS you are correct, we are one good big man away from winning THIS YEAR.

But that big man has to show up WITHOUT us losing any players.

It's got to be AR realizing how awesome he can be blocking shots, rebounding and running the break.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

This is at least a two year process. Any quick fix will require accepting the risk of breaking the harmony that has developed over the past month.

Look at the teams that aren't doing well and see if they want to trade a veteran for a younger player. That is why I keep bringing up Sacramento. Either Dalembert or Carl Landry can be had. Both are complaining about losing; and both aren't getting many minutes and complaining about that. Both can play tough inside. I don't think either would put us at Championship level, but they sure would strengthen us at our weakest area.

Nene won't be traded until Melo's situation is worked out.
Camby won't be traded unless Portland is out of contention or they can get a young big to replace him. And he has another year on his contract so that would cut into our FA signing this summer.
Marc Gasol has an expiring $3 mil contract, but Memphis wants to keep him and they are currecntly in 9th place and vying for a playoff spot. So they aren't going to trade him now for anything reasonable.

i think u sorta proved my point tho... doesn't seem to be any bigs out there that will make us a championship team that we can target that are realistically attainable w/o giving up a boatload of assets... Camby, Dalembert or Landry could help add depth like u said but they're not game changers... & personally i don't view guys like Nene or Marc Gasol as game changers either, definitely not worth giving up any our top young players to get... this is why i personally keep falling back on Melo as our primary option because he's definitely an impact game changing player... bigtime impact level Bigs are very few & far between these days in the NBA.

I agree about Landry and Dalembert. I think Landry would put up amazing numbers and be very productive as a Knick. Dalemebert is a good player if you don't have the expectations that the Sixers and their fans had for him. He also would give the Knicks a competent seven footer. I wonder if Walsh is handcuffed in making moves because of the Melo situation. Both of those guys appear like they will be moved soon and their value is not as high as in the past.

TMS - I understand what you are saying about getting Melo. I agree but I am for getting both - a Big and Melo. However, at the present time, Melo can't be had without gutting the organization and that I am not for. But we can still get a Big to strengthen the team and not give up very much. Then wait on the Melo situation until the trade deadline and see how desperate Denver is to get something in return for him.

If Mosgov would develop and MDA play him, then we would have another Big. But Mosgov has to show MDA that he can play at a qualified level before he will get playing time.

i agree w/u... if we could get both that would be huge... Camby & Melo is actually doable cap wise, but it's gonna depend on whether Melo forces his way to NY by refusing to sign any extensions with other teams... either way i doubt DW is gonna make any moves until the Melo situation is taken care of.

Well, I would bet money that if we do get Melo, Camby will be a Knick on the vet min in 2012.

If we can make a trade to get McGee now... do it... sign melo outright in the summer... and we're a serious contender next season, i think...

i wouldn't give up Fields or Chandler in a McGee trade though... maybe Gallo... definitely Randolph. Would Randolph and Curry work?

Billups already saying he wants to be bought out if he gets traded to the Nets...

let's face it... Melo to NJ is not happening... either Denver takes our peanuts, or they wait to lose Melo to us for nothing in return.

Question to those who feel we should go after a big man instead of Melo (ie. Marc Gasol, Nene, or Perkins):

If those players don't put us over the hump and place us among the elite...how do you propose to add more talent to the team, or find a player of Melo's caliber? We're going to be maxed out with that lineup, since all those big men that people suggest we go after will cost us more than $10M/yr to acquire.

At that point, the only resources we'll have available are low draft picks, the MLE, or vet min signings. Or we can try and retool on the fly and swap talent for other team's garbage like Orlando did, but those options will always require us giving up pieces (like Chandler, Gallo, etc.) to improve.

The chance of us finding a player of Melo's caliber with those resources are damn near nil.

However, if we get Melo first, those same resources can net us a serviceable center. Dalembert or Pryz may be had for the MLE. Camby will likely sign for the vet min in 2012. Young center prospects routinely fall in the draft that end up being a solid NBA contributor -- guys like Ibaka, DeAndre Jordan, Hibbert, McGee, or even ironically Marc Gasol (2nd round pick), Perkins (late 1st), and Dalembert (late 1st). We might even have something with Mozgov and/or Jerome Jordan already if we have the patience to develop them.

So I really don't understand this constant pining for a $10-13M center that's going to lock us in the current roster, when there's a big-time player like Melo who is available at a wholesale price. We get the second star first, then you fill in the role players.

Donnie is just sitting back and watching the circus between Denver and NJ, cuz the clowns are in the center ring and it's real funny. There's no way that Melo is gonna sign with NJ when he sees that he could slide right in here and be in the hunt for a title for the next 5 years. NO WAY!!! Denver can fight it all they want, but in the end they'll be forced to take what we have to offer. It just seems like that's how it's gonna eventually end.

I'd love to get a big that fits what we do, but at the end of the day we play small and we do it real well. We'd be better than the Magic and probably equal with the Heat by adding Melo.

We are ONE good big man away from winning it all THIS year
