why are we looking at Andy Rautins... he hasn't gone to the DLeague at all.

Here is why the Knicks are NOT sending guys to the DLeague (amongst other reasons): it would just be just pickup games during the summer. The Knicks don't have a complete affiliation (it's shared), which means they have NOT sent the coaches or staff to the team, which suggests that they have ZERO control over what is being taught to whomever would be assigned. What good would that do AR?

He would just go back to his old habits and score like 30PPG and collect 20rpg against inferior talent.... and then what? Still come back with the bad habits and not knowing the system any better.

Can a veteran play a year in europe? AR needs more than D-league but not quite NBA talent.

I know that at the end of a contract if a player goes to Europe, the NBA team would retain his rights. Not sure if I know of a case where a player in the midst of a contract went to Europe.... with even a rookie contract, AR would make more money and be infinitely more comfortable (lifestyle) in NBA anyway.

That's for sure. The more I watch AR, more he looks like a poster boy for staying in college. Damn shame. Still believe he can take it up a few levels but I'm not so sure AR is willing to do the work. I am sure D'Antoni has no plans on waiting for him to figure things out.

that's what is so disappointing. He doesn't even want to hustle when he gets life on the court after sitting 10 or whatever games in a row. And if he can't come off the bench with in the internal mentality to self of "ok ok ok AR, just dont do anything too stupid and run your ass off on every play", I just don't think we will ever be an NBA player, no less one on the Knicks team.

i loved that pass out of bounds too. I guess Moz was kinda in the range.

yeah, Moz showed a lot too tonight... that elbow was probably the best move he made all year.

Mozgov has the excuse of being a foreign rookie. Randolph is the same player after 3 years in the league.

Mozgov is also about 3 years older than Randolph... i would think he would be a lot further along in his development... anyway, i'm not comparing the 2... i don't expect big things out of Mozgov, the guy was a non-drafted rookie & if we get nothing out of him it's no big loss... i have higher expectations for AR & i believe so does Donnie Walsh.

So just play him for the sake of playing him, he'll learn on the fly regardless of the score.

Listen dude, the only way I put AR in a game at this point is if I have no choice, is not good and you don't have the luxary of experimenting with AR.

Shawne williams and fields came ready to play..I mean TMS.. you see AR on the floor in his limited minutes, and the guy looks lost lost lost...like he doesn't do one thing right, not one..
He was in the game for 5 gsme time minutes, and took 3 horrible shots, turned the ball over, and got beat twice, his trip to the foul line was well earned, cause it look like he could have hurt himself with that horrible pentration move.

you weren't saying this last year when Jordan Hill couldn't get any burn... is there a different set of circumstances that make sense for the Nets to play a youngster who is still learning the game this year as compared to the Knicks last year?

Yes there is. There are about a million reasons and differences between the players and their respective teams.

D'Antoni is winning this year and I don't think there is anyone on this forum that doesn't want the Knicks to succeeed. That being said, D'Antoni has some obvious faults that have carried over during his career. Attempting to squelch every single criticism of D'Antoni isn't necessary. He has faults. Do you really think Hill and Douglas were handled correctly last year on a 29 win team? Do you really think Walsh envisioned that D'Antoni would banish Randolph to the end of the bench when he was the prize in the package that came back from the Warriors in the Lee trade?

watching AR tonight it's easy to understand why MDA doesn't play the guy, but i think a lot of that has to do w/the fact he's lost all confidence in his game... i think Mozgov is suffering from the same thing... both these guys are not going to magically break out of their funk by only seeing minutes in garbage time IMO... i think at this point we're pretty much past the point of no return with AR on this team... he's probably gonna get traded & i'd be shocked if we could get 1st round pick value out of him in a trade... even if AR does get playing time i doubt he'll become that Marcus Camby player that all of us hope he can be... i think he needs to be on a rebuilding situation where the coach will allow him to go through his growing pains on the court & mature as a player, much in the same way Jermaine O'Neal got when he got traded to Indiana.

i'll tell you what though, he's a blocking machine on NBA2k11..love him

AR doesnt have to look any further than shawne williams for motivation.. dude was out of the league for a few years, worked his way back and when the coach called his name he went in ready to play HIS role. AR needs what d'antoni is giving him right now which is some humiliation. Lets hope he has yhe cojones to man-up. Sadly judging from last nite he haant learned a damn thing.

i don't believe we had the luxury of experimenting with Mozgov either as i stated at the beginning of the season i always believed Turiaf should have been starting games... like i said earlier in this thread, it's easy to see why MDA doesn't wanna play AR, he looks horrible when he gets on the floor... my only contention is that he hasn't had much of a chance to show anything at all & i don't think it's fair to expect to see much of anything out of him playing in garbage time a couple times a month... when i see a guy like Mozgov get a pretty fair shake & evaluation in real NBA action before he gets relegated to the bench, it leaves me scratching my head as to how a kid like AR who IMO has tons more potential & ability can't even get on the court unless we're blowing out a team by 20+ with 4 minutes to play in the game... like Bip said in another thread, AR should be blowing guys like Moz & Walker out of the water, but he's not... it leaves me scratching my head how he could look so good last season & put up the stats he did in games to what he is now... i don't believe this kid is Eddy Curry redux like martin suggests... he's not making big salary, this is not a question of him becoming lazy & content after signing a big contract... this to me is a case where he's not been able to excel due to lack of opportunity... & i don't believe he'll ever get that opportunity here.

TMS you keep ignoring the answer to your own question. Mike said that Timo got the nod cuz in practice he was actually doing the right things and looking good. He just couldn't translate that into games. His nerves got the best of him and he couldn't execute something as simple as catching the ball. He kept giving him a chance to see if he calmed down and the game slowed down for him. He did actually know what he was doing tho and aside from fouling too much. He was in the right spots, set good picks, passed well and moved well. AR hadn't even looked good in practice....

i get the fact that AR has looked brutal... just can't understand how a guy who put up the kinds of stats he did last year can regress into being a player he is now in such a short period of time... IMO this has more to do w/a mental thing w/AR than anything else... this isn't a question of talent or ability to produce... i think a player like this needs to be given more reign to work through his issues on the court in a rebuilding situation, much in the same way the Nets are trying to groom Derrick Favors, & much in the same way i thought the Knicks should have been doing with Jordan Hill last season... unfortunately we're no longer in a rebuilding situation, so i don't think it's ever going to work out for AR here... it's too bad DW's decision to trade D Lee for him hasn't reaped the type of value i thought it once did, but i'm not gonna kill him for making the move... i doubt he ever would have traded for him if he knew he'd never get any run, & i believe the same holds true for his decision to draft Jordan Hill last year.

Mike KNOWS when he's looking at good to great drive in his players. He's coached some of the most driven and dedicated players in the NBA! He even expects more from those players as he did from a pretty driven Amar'e. Amar'e admits now that he's a better player and even more dedicated. Mike and AMar'e had issues, but Mike as a coach was only demanding more from his player, cuz he knew that he had it to give.

AR and Hill are examples of young men who didn't show that drive that Mike knows the good to great ones have. He as a coach is trying to push them to step up to another level. Just because they might play for another coach on a rebuilding team doesn't mean that they'd learn how to be great. Mike is trying to teach his players how to win. The guys that are playing now FULLY understand that now. You think Fields, Williams, TD, Chan and Gallo don't understand what Mike is teaching them? I'm positive that they fully get it and have bought in.

VS the Bucks: 8pts/9 rebounds/ 2 steals/ 2 assists/ 2 blocks in 28 minutes and only one turnover. AR was benched before they started to push the ball. Like I said, Randolph needs to learn the half court game before he can sniff some real PT, which is doubtful.

It really depends tho. O'Neal may have shown himself to be a hard worker and to have a more solid grip on what his role was on the court. AR doesn't seem to have any idea. I totally understand your point about O'Neal, but it may not directly apply in this instance. Also Mike is trying to instill a sense of what winning BB is about. These young guys are seeing it up close and being around players that are showing the way to being a winning player. AR has no excuses.

I'm positive that they fully get it and have bought in.

sometimes all a young players needs is an opportunity... see Jermaine O'Neal.

I think like O'Neal, Randolph needs to get his opportunity with another team. I think a lot of it is on Randolph but I don't think there was much chance of his stay in NY working out after the Milan game. He is a young guy that needs to be allowed to make mistakes in a rebuilding situation not a situation where each mistake is confronted with a harsh reaction from his coach and where the stakes are higher for the team.
I'm tired,I'm tired, I'm so tired right now......Kristaps Porzingis 1/3/18
Knicks should give Randolph the chance the Nets are giving Favors
