against mediocre teams in the NBA, no we absolutely do not need Melo... but when you have to go up against teams like the Lakers, Celtics, Heat, Magic, etc. in a best of 7 playoff series, it's a different story... if u consider adding a top scoring wing to a dominant low post bigman, a very good PG & a nice supporting cast of role players, u are starting to put together a viable championship calibre roster.
IMO the only thing that DW is weighing is how much this is going to cost him. Not whether he should do it at all, but what's the best deal he can make. How does he hold on to more of his assets in the deal. I'm positive that he sees the value in adding Melo, but like any good GM he wants to get him for as little as possible.
i agree, which is why i think it's silly to discuss whether or not it's worth gutting our entire roster to get him... i don't think that's even a consideration in DW's mind at this point... he will put together a reasonable deal to get Melo & if DEN still refuses then he'll consider other options... there is nothing that DW has done as our GM that would lead me to believe he would completely gut our roster for any 1 player.

This is how I hope it shakes out as well...
The one thing that makes me nervous, is waiting. I hate to be impatient after a decade of watching Weatherspoon, Eisley, Dunhon, Curry, Marbury, Shandon Anderson, and seventy-five h2o comebacks; but I worry that if we fall off and miss the playoffs. How much will Melo REALLY want to be here?
We trade now, while Denver is desperate to move him and we're hot. Should be a win-win, if Donnie plays it right.
