There first mistake was having the "rock star" type coming out party after lebron signed.

Second is to think Riles would be any more fun. Riles is not an easy coach and many players complained over the years he wears you down. His Showtime teams he was invited in and the team had already won a championship without him. In NY he got a lot out of the players and hyped them up but fell short. Sometimes he was outcoached.

In Miami he got schooled every year by JVG except the when the "Fight Club" enacted and ewing was supsended. Miami folded the next series. JVG got his ass every time.

With Wade-Shaq it worked because it was half a season.

Riles don't want to coach. Only if the owner forces him will he. Kind of like when Dolan made Isiah coach. Kind like when you put your dogs nose into the crap he made and the dog fights back that he don't want his poo under his nose.

Setting up that slim ball to coach would be perfect. Maybe they respond and come back but we all would expect that. A bonus if we bounce them out of the playoffs.

Superfriends should not panic and should not be blaming the coach. Superfriends has some basic fundamental flaws.

Its redundancy and a lack of work ethic and intensity.

Superfriends like to party. Lebron and Wade need to tend to priorities like fatherhood and being professioal about living up to expectations they set for themselves. Lebron needs to grow up and get real. Real champions sacrifice to win. What are they sacrificing?

and as long as they continue to give half assed efforts they will not be sucessful under riley... this is not about spoelstra, it is about 3 guys who were bad fits, who seemingly want to "chill" more than work..

Pat Riley = Phil Jackson.

Jackson doesnt ride Bryant and the other stars on the team. He does get the most out of them though.

I think some are underestimating the respect factor when coaching multiple stars. Spoelstra is a NOBODY. He is Mike Brown status. Pat Riley has the juice.

Lebron, Bosh, and Wade might not be the most ideal trio but they arent arch enemies either. They know the pecking order. When they annouce the team on Sun Sports they say Lebron James and the Heat.

I like Spolestra but he sold his soul also I guess with Riley's.

The "SuperFriends" thing is crap and its problematic.

Im reminded by the Beatles who remained together for a few struggling years putting out some hits and misses as well but stuck together despite not liking each other.

In his new book, Keith Richards tells how strained his relationship with Mick Jagger is and they really can't stand each other. But they make music and millions together. ITs not always about fun.

The reasons Lebron wanted "Superfriends" was from his experience from the olympics where the "Redeem Team" had so much fun beating the snot out of the rest of the field.

But he should be reminded it was a three week tournament they won and this is a long grueling season.

Look back on Jordans run. He is not dancing, throwing chaulk for self admiration, and not having fun. Jordan first three resulted in an near nervous breakdown and his "retirement" to baseball. YOu remember "Space Jam" don't you? I don't think Mike was really obducted by Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny but maybe it seemed like it after he might have drifted over the "white lines" of the highway too many times with gambling and his pops getting murdered. Pressure, public persona and the deisire to win takes its toll on a man.

Mike was golden! DUde has a break down, fails out of baseball, makes a movie about with Bugs and Company, makes another gazillion off that and then comes back! Lebron has "The Decision" and it all falls to pieces.

Lesson: call Bugs Bunny next time for the decision. Not Jim Gray!

Winning championships is not fun. Its a sociopathic journey that requires concentration and dedication. The superfriends are not cut from the same cloth as Jordan, Magic, Bird or Kobe. Wade had a nice run but it was not sustainable and it required Shaq to push him along.

They might win on sheer talent which is what most expected but they are three deep and thats about it.

Having a servicable point and Center helps. Arroyo and Damp won't get it done.

Great post.. I think they were all punch drunk from the olympic experience.. It reminds me of going on a trip to visit a friend in another city..you have such a great time, and you come back home, and you miss your friends, the good time you had, the city, and you want to move there right away... when you move back, you notice, that the city is not as nice 365 days as it is for 7 days.. and your frieds don't really party and hang out as much as they do over the course of a year, and the food doesn't taste as good eating it every day as opposed to a once week visit... you just notice, that you really don't like the situation over the long haul as much as you did for a short visit... maybe this is what lebron and the "superfriends" are figuring out...

The Miami Heat's players are frustrated with Erik Spoelstra and some are questioning whether he is the right coach for their team, according to people close to the situation.

With the ballyhooed Heat losing four of their last five games and sporting a mediocre 9-8 record, the players are privately grumbling about Spoelstra on several fronts.

Sources say the players believe he is not letting them be themselves, that they are questioning his offensive strategies, and that they think he is panicking because he fears losing his job.

Stein on Spoelstra's situation

The pressure on Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has been simmering for a while. ESPN.com's Marc Stein has some perspective on where we've been, and where we might be headed. Blog

In contrast to the popular view that Spoelstra has been hesitant to jump on superstars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, sources say the Heat coach has shown no fear in criticizing them.

Exhibit A was a recent shootaround in which Spoelstra told James that he had to get more serious. The source said Spoelstra called James out in front of the entire team, telling him, "I can't tell when you're serious."

"He's jumping on them," one source said. "If anything, he's been too tough on them. Everybody knows LeBron is playful and likes to joke around, but Spoelstra told him in front of the whole team that he has to get more serious. The players couldn't believe it. They feel like Spoelstra's not letting them be themselves."

It is not known whether the players voiced their concerns about Spoelstra during their players-only meeting following Saturday's loss at Dallas. Nor is it apparent whether the bump between James and Spoelstra during a timeout in that game was accidental or a result of tension between the two.

Following the loss Saturday to Dallas, Wade said: "I never would put anything on the coach -- win, lose or draw -- because they can give us the game plan but they're not on the court playing. ... Now it's time to take ownership. This is our team, even though we respect our coaches for what they do."

Spoelstra was not immediately available for comment. The Heat has a shootaround Monday morning in preparation for a game against Washington later in the day.

According to the sources, the Heat players believe Spoelstra's offensive strategies have been too simplistic. They feel like he is running nothing but pick-and-rolls and telling the Heat's secondary players to find open spots on the floor for catch-and-shoot jumpers.

The sources said the players also think the constant speculation about Spoelstra's job security is getting to the third-year coach and that he has resorted to nitpicking over minor details because of it.

"He's not a motivator," one of the sources said. "Instead of coaching he's at the point where the players are starting to sense that he's fearing for his job."

"I don't worry about changes," Wade said on Saturday. "I can't control them. Only thing we can control is our effort and the way we play."

Mike & Mike in the Morning

ESPN NBA Insider Chris Broussard says players on the Heat are questioning whether Erik Spoelstra is the right coach for the team and Heat players think Spoelstra is panicking about his job security.

Several people close to the situation said Wade definitely does not want team president Pat Riley to come down to the sidelines. Sources also said that while recruiting players this past summer, Riley insisted that he would not coach the team.

"Riley kept saying 'Spoelstra's a good coach and he'll grow into a great coach,' " a source said. "He said he got his coaching break [with the Los Angeles Lakers] around the same age as Spoelstra got his."

It is widely believed that Riley does not want to coach this season. However, one source said that privately Riley has at times been critical of the Heat's game-planning.

While expectations around the league have started to lessen for the Heat because of their struggles, the sources said the players still have a championship-or-bust mentality for this season and that they are open to whatever changes are necessary to get there.

While the players think that may mean a coaching change, one member of the Heat organization said the team is suffering from a lack of leadership from the players, not the coach.

"They don't want to step on each other's toes," the person said. "There's no leader on the team. Somebody has to speak up and be the leader on the team. They can't be afraid to step on people's toes. They need a vocal leader who's going to make everybody accountable. I don't think it's on the coach. It's on the players."

Chris Broussard covers the NBA for ESPN The Magazine. Information from The Associated Press is included in this report.

according to Woj, this is a BS report coming strait from Maverick Carter

Spo is going no where....you really think Pat wants to take responsibility now. He might have been considering coming to the bench during the off-season but, after seeing His Prissyness in full bloom why the f would he.

If things turn around he looks good and if things don't Spo is the one who will look bad.

Like someone said earlier....Unlike Bron.....Riley cares about his legacy :)

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

LeBron couldn't look worse. His ego is so malformed it is unbelievable. His character is being questioned and before last summer he was the golden boy of the league. The Heat should have fined and suspended him for the bump on Spolestra instead of ignoring and acting like it didn't happen. He is about to get a second coach fired in six months and it appears this all happening to appease him. This looks like it is going to get worse before it gets better. I can't wait for Thursday night. LeBron is slipping into the role of overpaid, egocentric, superstar villain very well.
