Well Thompson might be the cheapest smartest buy but I think Bargs is the real deal obviously. I guess my overwhelming thought here is for the right players--I will give up assets and free agency. I think this is a very good team missing in two areas---another skilled big who we can count on to score and an upgrade from both the wing and PG positions off the bench. We dont need free agency if we get the right fits for the team now.
Who is our clutch game closer... Gallo? TD? Felton? Not sure they got the sack-age for that job, but I could become a believer in Gallo if he adds to his recent consistency. Amare is not able to get his own shot, unless you consider bulling his way past a triple team and flicking the balls toward the rim a shot.
We need a clutch shooter (mid or long range) who can close out games for us. I think it might be Gallo, but if we land Melo then clearly the issue would be moot.
I appreciate your new interest in filling out our core with more depth and I agree we have some solid players now. Not sure a move that presumes we don't sign Melo is our best bet.

He banks and bruises and bodies up on guys. The guy I wanted (obviously not and option now) was OK4, who is really Turiaf on roids. Doesnt score much but does at a high rate, cleans the glass and is a shot blocking machine. An Amare/OK4 frontcourt was the defensive pair I thought would make us elite, and by the way he's playing looks like I was right.
Someone like Hibbert would be nice, but he's blowing up and there is no way.
I'm inclined to just keep trying to get the most out of this group and improve internally. With Douglas, Gallo, Chandler, AR, Mosgov, Fields, even Turiaf I think there is a lot of room to improve internally and simply get our own guys better.
I would hesitate to add more offensive skill to the front court if it would involve losing defensive toughness, blocks or boards. We have a couple of competent bigs defensively and have made teams work to score. I think we can build on it, add better rebounding by actually boxing out once in a while (Hello Amare, see me looking at you *split fingers to my eyes*). Just b/c Blake G. went off doesn't really matter because that mofo could jump over the moon if he wanted to. Nobody could stop that shyte. Good thing it's a team game otherwise the entire league would be screwed against him.
If you're coming up with Plans B (i.e., in case we whiff on Melo) then I am down with checking out all these interesting trades you're proposing. But Plan A gotta stay Melo this summer, as we'd be totally insane not to snatch him in his prime.
