It wouldn't be a problem if he played for the Knicks. D'Antoni doesn't have game day shoot arounds.

you still on this myth?

you are, again, blatantly putting out falsehoods here as fact.

the knicks have a shootaround, which is called a walk through, just not in the morning.

let me refresh folks' memories...

http://www.ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.asp?t=36670

and btw, the grizzlies walkthrough was in the afternoon (for which both he and zach randolph were late).

Randolph said he thought the practice was scheduled for 4:45 p.m. The team met at 4:30.

I'd offer two players. I'd give them a choice of AR or Mozgov and a choice of Fields or Douglas. With his outside shot, his intensity and his defensive skills, Mayo would be a great fit.

There just isnt enough touches in Memphis for Mayo to put up stats. I knew the ax was coming for Mayo as soon as they extended Gay and Conley.

Agreed.

I actually think Mayo should almost be more of a fit than Melo.

I think Mayo + Gallo is way better and makes more sense for us than just Melo. (Assuming we'd have to give up Gallo in a Melo trade).

There are probably even ways we could make the trade for Mayo and retain flexibility to sign Melo in the off-season.

This, to me, is a devastating SSOL lineup:

Felton
Mayo
Gallo
Amare
Turiaf

I'd target Mayo right now and use the summer money from Eddy's expiring to get either Melo or a big center.

I actually want to keep Mosgov. The guy is SOLID. Most centers are stiffs. Mosgov is on a cheap deal too.

I'd do Randolph and Douglas for Mayo though.

I would do that trade, too.

If AR were playing 24 minutes a night and getting 10ppg and 7rpg 2blocks i think it'd be possible. but now? i dunno.

I'd have to say that any fantasy trade for Mayo would have to include (and prob start with) Fields.

Not really. Memphis cannot afford to pay Gasol and Zach Randolph this summer. Anthony Randolph gives them a young prospect at PF to replace Zach Randolph.

Xavier Henry would then take over for Mayo at SG.

yeah, i think it would have to be: AR plus either Toney or Fields.

i think it'd be a good trade for both sides.

i think Mayo would be great in both NY and in the D'Antoni offense.

Mayo is a piece worth giving up other pieces for. His downside is making a couple all star games. His upside is Monta Ellis on offense and Raja Bell on defense. We are talking about a real cog in an elite team.

A package of Fields/AR/Douglas seems like a lot to give up but the simple fact is those types of guys are much easier to aquire than someone like OJ Mayo. Hate to do it but gotta make that trade.

AR/Douglas/Fields for Mayo and a couple of 2nd rounders works cap wise. Your rotation becomes:
PG Felton
SG Mayo
SF GAllo
PF Amare
C Turiaf
bench: Chandler, Walker, Mosgov

Mayo's shooting, ball handling and defense on the ball makes this an easy transition IMO.

I really like OJ Mayo (I prefer him to Melo) but losing Fields for him would hurt. Can there be any other way?!

he also fills a need, as opposed to Melo. As good as Melo is we have a scoring SF who's 22 and looking pretty OK these days. Mayo gives us a bigtime play maker, a great shooter and a good defensive player on the wing. Ball movement is nice but when you have guys who can break down the defense and set up easy shots all by themselves you really have something

yeah, i think Gallo, Mayo and Felton is a vicious combo on the perimeter. obviously Amare is great. then we just need a really good center and we'd be set.

I dont think so. Love Fields also, but this is a layup. Yes we got a gem in the 2nd round but using it to get a bigger piece makes finding Fields in the first place even better. If we got Mayo I think people here would be gushing after a couple weeks.

Knowing the financial troubles that Memphis is in, would you consider this type of deal:

Gasol, Mayo for Douglas, Fields, AR, Timo, Buike.

This would allow Memphis to resign Zach and not get hit hard with resigning Gasol & Mayo while retooling with some decent talent.

THat would be a sweet deal for us. We'd still have Turiaf as backup which is perfect, and we solve our SG problem, too. Only thing we'd need is a third guy who can backup Both guard spots or even just the 1. TD would be perfect in that limited roll and give him some new motivation to get back on track. I'd take him outta that package and make it a late first round pick or pair of second rounders, unless he's needed to make salaries work.

Id take him we need a 2G--perfect scenario when a young player and team is slumping to get him.

Mayo seems to have very low career average in rebounding, Fields is already averaging 6.5 rebounds (yes its only 14 games) but he can potentially average close to or at double-double range in a year or two. Mayo is also more of a combo guard so not sure why he is he "perfect" 2G, he is a high volume shooter and I think we have had enough of those recently. But I would do the trade Martin suggested if Gasol is involved.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

If we strike out on Melo or he signs his extension elsewhere, we should really push hard to sign Marc Gasol, and trade for Mayo (anyone but Gallo).

A starting five of:

Felton
Mayo
Gallo
Amare
Gasol

with possibly Chandler/Fields/Turiaf off the bench (or whoever we have left after a trade), seems like a contender, but I could be wearing rose-tinted glasses.
