I learned a long time ago not to get drawn into a fight like this. This is a forum about our beloved Knicks. We love them some days and other days we hate them. MARTIN! PLEASE SHUT THIS DISCUSSION DOWN SO WE CAN MOVE ON AND DISCUSS OUR BELOVED KNICKS. PEACE TO EVERYONE AND MAY THE KNICKS WIN TONIGHT. GOOO KNICKS!!!

I am all about the Knicks too but shutting thee discussions down is not going to achieve anything. Living in denial has never helped anybody. This is basketball forum and in general we should be talking hoops and not racism, but its also a bunch of regular people who interact daily with each other through this message board. To say such interaction will be devoid of friction may not be realistic.

Like TMS I am asian too, I didn't grow up here but migrated to the US in my late 20s and like he points out had to face my fair share of ingrained racial taunts and slurs.

But to me the real problem with racism is not the fringe people who are making derogatory comments its the more mainstream otherwise decent people who are completely clueless about other cultures and what may or may not be offensive towards them. These people are not racist but may be insensitive towards the meaning and nuances of what they are saying and may not have the capacity/flexibility to understand why its hurtful. Those are the types of arguments that cause a lot of misunderstanding and Cosmic was a good example of that. I don't believe he said what he said with the intent to hurt somebody but wasn't able to understand what was wrong with it when it was repeatedly explained to him. Does that qualify as racism? In my opinion it is a case by case thing, but the impact is much the same.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

AMEN BROTHER.

Well said.

I hate racism as well. And I loved cosmic videos also. Hard to see a knick game in Tucson, AZ.

But if cosmic offended somebody racially, and refuse to apologize? Something so simple to him, and major to those he affected.

Good job UK for acting accordingly.

To the Greek comment about forte green, where my family roots are. All I can say is RUN. Leave while ur still alive. LOL.

Thankfully I had made lasting friends in Ft Green and never had to run.....

I never agreed with what Cosmic said and don't agree with any kind of racial tension my friend.....

Just saying even if Cosmic did make a mistake being human he is entitled to make as many as he wants!

Even if he is a racist .... Which i say he is not ..... it is again his right!

Kicking him off a sight that is based strictly on peoples opinions is not gonna change Cosmic or anyone is my
only point!

That and the dude had passionate opinions on the Knicks..............

If a newbie comes along and start posting incredibly stupid stuff, we don't hesitate and lock the person right away, no warning necessary (cause they just dont get it from the start). I think it's fair to say that long time posters get a lot more slack; it's hard to interpret sarcasm, all-in-fun ball busting, etc and we all slip up from time to time.

Hey, we all want a place where we can enjoy some banter, right?

Often times posters may not realize they just posted something that is offensive and others will tell them about it, it's their reaction to that that is key. Moving along in a way that does not upset is probably best, explaining point of view doesn't hurt, acknowledging the other side of viewpoint is bold (in a good way). Ranting on and on about being completely right in the face of a LOT of other people mentioning otherwise and then calling others dickheads is probably not the best way to treat a community that you interact with; there should be normal human commonsense decency.

When I was a kid I grew up in a mostly all black neighborhood. There was one asian kid in my school and he was tortured relentlessly. I took part in the torture until I realized he could play ball and then he became my friend. There was a group of four of us that grew up together and he was the one that gave us our diversity. Then my father married a lady from Korea and although my father loves her I thought she was a beyotch. This made me hate Koreans. Then I met TMS on the internet and that confirmed my hatred for Koreans. Then my stepmom told me that she was proud of me and all the things that I have accomplished. So now I'm back to liking Koreans again.

Why am I telling you guys this? I have no idea.

Taht being said, this is a messageboard. It is inevitable that someone will offend someone else. That in itself is not a crime. It's the inability to apologize and the continued agitation of those persons that you do offend that this place doesn't need. It's why all you idiots come here instead of going to some of these other sites where people are going to call you names like "idiot" for every one of your opinions. In this place, most people are respectful no matter how much they disagree with someone eles. So in my view if someone cannot apologize when they offend someone else then they probably don't fit into this group. Doesn't mean they are a racist, just means they don't fit in.

I just hope that people will like me

just in case you missed it, there are a TON of posters who have been locked and have come back (some of them several times), and I got a feeling Cos knows this. All anyone has to do is email us in a halfway cordial way.

I'd prefer the board be allowed to do a little more self-moderation. I hate always wondering if someone's been banned. For instance, oohah after challenging Martin, or Playa, Isles, etc. The only guy who ever really bugged me was seatsblue, but that was personal and I still didn't want him banned.

We're a pretty vocal bunch, that's what where her for, to debate and ****. So what if it gets a little heated once in a while?

That said, I've never run a board and don't consider my opinion all that valuable, but I like having the opportunity to express it.

Regardless if TMS believes he is a racist!

I personally don't believe that Cosmic is a racist at all....

Just made a poor choice of words and like Jimmy the Greek he has been condemned!

i didn't want to comment anymore on the topic but do NOT make this out to be TMS being the one that got Cosmic banned... he got himself banned w/his poor choice of words & defiance & throwing further insults at people who took offense to it... i was not the only one who took offense, several other posters did too... so please, enough with this "Regardless if TMS believes he is a racist" bullcrap... unless u know how it all went down, then it's probably best to drop the topic & let the moderators decide when or if he ever returns... all he's got to do is apologize & acknowledge he made a poor choice of words... for the record, no one accused him of being a racist when he made that comment necessarily, only that the comment he made was offensive to people of Asian descent... he obviously didn't give a crap... so ask me if i give a crap that he got his dumb ass banned from this site, & i'll say i don't.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
