I believe the second pick can be used from 2006 through 2015 and is lottery protected from 2006 through 2010

Geezez... this ain't baseball ... we have no farm system in basketball.

Most of the players that only play for one team their whole career are SUPERSTARS and there are no doubts of their potential early in their careers... ex.Garnett, Ewing(95% of his career in NYC), Shaq(90%) etc , you get the point.

Now most small market teams might need to develop talent from square one but in the bigger market cities like LA and NYC you don't need to develop players you can just sign them or trade for them because they draw players and they have history and extra cash.

The most important thing for these big city teams is to create a winning/enjoyful environment. Yes developing ONE player or two is good but not the way we was doing, I mean come on, I got sick of waiting for this fag Milos to come to NYC and McDyess to heal his knee, so if you think we gave up too much for Marbury then you need to check yourself. We didn't get rid of the future we created a new one!

Have you noticed that a lot more players want to play for the Knicks now and that none of the Knicks want to be traded now?

Did you think Lampe was the future? McDyess? Milos?(i think hes way overated). Milos wanted a definite contract to come to NYC. Now if you are the MAN then you wouldnt care SO MUCH about the guarenteed contract cause you know that if you indeed the MAN then no matter what once you get palying time you will get a major contract.

Last thing... Sheed is the man, do you guys watch the same NBA as I do? He can take over a game. I think the Sheed haters don't have hair on their nuts yet cause they probably just started watching the NBA.

Let 'em know, Stevo! Solid post.

I just want to make one correction: Shaq spent 2/3 (66.7%) of his career in LA.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Sheed is welcome in my book (don't make me eat these words, Sheed!)...

Steph & Sheed...It almost feels like the second coming of Starks/Mason...but with higher point & assist averages...

It's interesting--- note that Lampe has been active for a few games, but still hasn't gotten any burn--- also note how the incredibly talented UCONN product Jake Voshkul has been getting a lot of playing time. Not to mention Scott Williams...

Son your all wrong!

Dice has been considered the "fag", not Milos.

Many ways to build a team and be successful. MCgrady, KG, Kobe, all needed a few years to turn into superstars. Its about drafting potential. Laydog did not have the assets after trading the 7 pick, so he had to go long and incubate talent with Milos and Lampe.

You got Dolan on one side wanting full house, and then there is the logical side that prefers building. The Yanks did it, and are going away from it. But the 1998 team was primarily home grown talent.

basically, milos and lampe if they waited and were more proven could have projected to be Lottery picks. They came early as there is a market for drafting potenital.

Laydog made the mistake of trying to be financially conservitive going forward, trying to put a contender on the floor (a pretender, not contender), and build for the future by creating a pipline of talent not ready for prime time. He was not charasmatic, nor what he was doing terribley exciting either. THe buzz was lost.

If they could have gone public with a "Denver" style rebuild and sell the future, that might have worked, but as we know it can be risky, and the deep cap problems we have are not solveable short term.

The "Thomas" approach makes sense for a lot of reasons both for this situation, the deep pockets of its owners, and for the New York market.

The views by both sides are valid. There is no one right way to approach this, and its not a science.

The Rangers are set to bring in Jagr from the Caps? He is in decline and highly paid. The Rangers are bigger Star Phuchers than the Knicks. Bure, Lindros, and now Jagr? This is crazy stuff. They have not made the playoffs in 6 years! Biggest payroll in hockey and they suck.

Lets put it this way, if there is any truth about Starburys ankles (he sat out practice the other day to rest ankle) in the next few years, and for some reason he declines at age 30, and the same time milos and Lampe are coming into their own, then the trade can be viewed as negative.

Enjoy Starbury, but be concerned. The management style at Madison Square garden leaves a lot to be desired.

Personally the knicks are my favorite team, but I have been following the Grizz now two years as I like the youth movement there and Hubie Brown. I enjoy watching Jason Williams mature and Pao do well.
THis way I can enjoy a young team mature and still not get too upset over the knicks instant gradification schemes. IT is what it is, and I support the team. I root for thomas to succeed, as I rooted for Laydog to do also. Put the best product on the floor with no regard to money. yah gotta love that!

The marbury trade was great, would have liked to have kept 2nd 1st rnd pick or lampe but sometimes you have to overpay.Isiah no doubt wants to get bigger and more athletic.Portland does NOT want kvh, they dont want any long term contracts.Dont know if we have anything else to get rasheed(and i dont want to hear willams, doleac,or sweetney-it wont be enough)I do think at some point before deadline Zeke will get more talent into this team.I believe in Zekes evaluation of talent ,but even he cant build this team into a champion in 1 month.Be patient, the chips will come-will be easier in offseason.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

I know some major moves will be made in the offseason, but some deals (like Sheed) will only be available to us prior to the trade deadline.

I am sure that Zeke will pull the trigger on (at least )one more deal before the deadline passes.

This just came out today...

Rasheed derby heating up: Sentiment around the NBA among personnel directors is that any trade involving Rasheed Wallace will come sooner than later.

The deadline is Feb. 19, but several executives who have spoken with Portland officials believe things are moving quickly.

Sheed is still up for grabs...
