Your Call: Should The Knicks Fire D'Antoni?

Last offseason was all about upgrading the team to finally take the steps towards the playoffs. While the main objectives were missed, the team still upgraded its talent. But so far this season, the results have been the same as we follow past scripts into another losing season. This with coach Mike D'Antoni playing his 3-point system when it clearly doesn't suit his team. As the losses and bad showings keep mounting, management will have to make a decision.

This was supposed to be D'Antoni's make or break season and so far he has shown he will stick to his system even though it doesn't favors his roster. Should the Knicks fire D'Antoni?

Yes, his system clearly doesn't suit us. Can't win only shooting 3's.
No, we have to get him better players to run his system.
Its too early to tell but I'd fire him if we are 7-10 games under .500 after 25 games.
I'd let him finish the season and then make a change if we don't make the playoffs.
He is untouchable. He will guide us to the promised land.

So Mike changed the starting line-up. It didnt work. We won games with the old line-up. Mozgov was coming around. Is he panicking?

That's my only problem with Mike right now.

We need to adjust. This spread offense isn't working. We need more offball movement. I like Mike and I still think he can be successful, bu im tired of seeing the same ship

I voted to fire him after the season though I don't think we are making the playoffs. I don't think there are any candidates we want as head coach availabale right now. Ny main beefs with are the defense and the obsession with the threee.

He has no Nash, ergo has no idea what he's doing right now. How about yanking a player who's chucking up too many threes? Sadly that'll leave about two players on the court.

After blowing a 21-point lead and allowing a single player to have the first 31-31 in 20 years, yeah, I guess the idea of firing this coach is just overreaction and we should give this guy the whole season to work his magic.

Im sorry but the denial some of you are, Im waking up from it. As Knicks fans we've come to appreciate grit and hard work on the defensive end. We've stood up for ovations to players giving their heart on the floor and we love coaches that preach that. I knew D'Antoni wasn't gonna bring any of this, but since he still had success in Phoenix and we had been so terrible, I gave him a chance as a fan. Everyone mentioning his lack of defense would make me defend him mildly, because at the end of the day I would know defense wins in this league and we would be low on that. Mike is an offensive mastermind and that could prove better than any defense I would crave.

But even Mike's system has come to question the last few seasons. When you simply work offensive plays to get three-point shots, not working penetrations or post moves or solid mid-range opportunities, especially with the game on the line, AND you don't defend your heart out, you will lose game after game as the Knicks are showing. We will win another game this season, probably a few, but it will probably happen when we are so hot from downtown the opponent wont matter. But that won't happen consistently because we don't have the personnel and even with it, thats not winning basketball.

So we will have games where we lead most of it, maybe even have big leads. All while the long range is hot. But after that, we will be routed, either making the final score look respectable or an embarrassment. But in the end, it will be another loss. Last few games we've been routed, either the whole game or from a certain point forward. We've lost. And while the talent may not be all-star worthy, it sure isn't as bad as it has shown.

We may get on a small winning streak and at least for me it won't change this thought: we will never become a playoff contender, not even less win a championship, with this coach and his style. Mike has lost me as a fan for good. He cold care less, but more fans will come to realize this and show their displeasure at home. And it will be a familiar sight for the Knicks: team in disarray, losses mounting, and fans chanting for the head coach's firing.

Only 16 games before we can judge his performance this year. Well, that is, if we don't manage to lose enough to have an ugly record like, say, 4-11 or something like that.

Let D'antoni coach the team for rest of the year. There is still a lot of games to play to make a turnaround. Amare need to assert himself in the post and pass when he is double, triple teamed. If Knicks sucks at end of year, I don't care if he gets fired. It has always started at the top...Dolan.

Amare is supposed to set a good example. Instead he's taking bad shots so why not everyone else join in?

He deserves half a season to see if he can get the team to gel. If they're still the same by midyear, I'd say dantoni has worn out his welcome. That said, I think the team will be ok.

This shouldn't even be brought up until he has coached his team for at least a 170+ games and has a winning percentage of 37% or less.

Does being the assistant coach of the countries olympic team mean nothing? If we fire him will he not find another job at a premier club? What will it take to get some continuity in NYC?

I do not know the answers to these questions. do you?

Seems like MDA is evolving as a coach, from an ugly caterpillar that needed steve nash and was clueless about defense, to a butterfly that coaches defense and is trying to spread its wings to take flight. Lets give him a chance to do so please.

He is getting the chance anyway but he should be fired.
