pretty much how i see it... not that Jennings has proven to be a headcase, but he did show some signs of being overly brash w/his talk about Rubio & also being a no show to the group workouts that several NBA teams attended (i believe that was the report)
if we could do it all over again, obviously we should have taken Jennings... Donnie made a mistake on passing him, it's clear, but i do see the reasoning why he did so... w/the David Lee situation up in the air at the time i also understand why he decided on taking Jordan Hill.
D'Antoni and Walsh should have done a better job of tanking the season before, and then they could have taken Curry who they were both in love with.
Tanking to get a better lottery spot is something we've never done. I can think of so many times where it seemed to make sense to do it but we never do. There's this foolish sense of pride that this franchise has. It's part of the culture.
Nothing to do with the franchise...everything to do with being an athlete and competitor.
Players don't tank and should be jettisoned if they do. But if you have a team of veterans. But young guys like frank Williams and Lavor Postell should have been playing 30 minutes a night. Old guys like KT, Allan, Latrell, Othella, Clarence should have been traded for young guys, or draft picks. Getting rid of the old guys and bringing in young guys/picks would have helped us to build towards something in the future and would have ultimately lead to a lot of losses. Instead we held on to the vets with some ridiculous belief that we were going to do damage if we could just make the playoffs. End result was the Elton Brand clone, not Lebrayne Boshany
Yeah there is a way to do it that isn't egregious. You simply call the dogs off and let your youngs play. It's a failure accepted practice. It's the accidentally on purpose deal. You're trying to win the games, but hoping to lose, by playing kids that you know don't know how to win yet. I've had a hard time accepting the concept at times, cuz I hate to lose, but when there's nothing left in a season to play for, you have to start thinking about the future of the franchise. I can understand the supposed integrity thing, but only to a point.
