Here's a question for you Answer Man. Who said this?

"If he can keep it together, he's good enough to play in the league. There's no question about that."

Remember that it was Donnie who drafted and signed Shawne Williams out of college. So Donnie is very familiar with his skill set and lack of maturity. Donnie likes to give players a second chance if they have a good skill set. Ex. - Jonathan Bender last year.

I like PE,Jr but I think it is obvious that Shawne Williams is considered the much better talent and is showing that he is serious in straightening out his life. Either way, it is the 15th player Not anything to get too excited about.

Bird got rid of him because of his problems. He has 'kept it together' for three months and prior to that for seven months. I also beleive he was asked to stay away from one of his teams, Pacers or Mavs by management. Does that sound like someone Mike D'Antoni is going to be successful with? Maybe Walsh's theory is that Amare has Mike's back now in the locker room but in the past players that were immature seemed to cause the coach a lot of anxiety and created drama reported in the media.

CrushALot - the worst that can happen is the 15th man on the roster gets in trouble and is immediately dropped.

Ewing Jr is brought back, contract intact.

The best that can happen?

For starters, Shawne Williams learns the personal fulfillment of walking a straight line, earns trust and molds himself into a productive professional.

don't cry for pej. guy's a nice hustle player but not an nba talent.

and quit the crying about massaging ewing sr's ego. the whole league and its fans are getting a little "sensitive" right about now if you ask me.

To be honest, I would have invited Marcus Landry to training camp over Baby Ewing.

Nice kid, and you can tell from what he has said in the press or on Twitter that he is a very solid citizen, but with Fields, Chandler, and even Walker, around, you knew there was no place for him on this team.

I think he would do well to play overseas. He has the name, and enough talent, to carve out a career in Europe. I think he would have a better time there than in the DL.

I would love for him to be successful, fulfill his potential and straighten out his life. My point is that it goes against everything that has been done so far in terms of what players have been acquired and what players have either been passed over or moved because of flaws much less concerning than the baggage Williams brings to the team. I also think that when you have a guy who has been arrested twice in the last ten months and two teams have gotten rid of him during that time you are not talking about someone who is anywhere near being rehabilitated. A year in the dl or Europe without an incident seemed like the route he would have to take to get a team to take another shot at him. I have to wonder if this isn't similar to the Bender signing last year where Walsh gives one of his guys that didn't work out some run.

The Answer Man Sez Say What?

Q. Frank Isola - Do the Knicks owe Ewing and his son jobs?

No.

Q. Isola - But what do the Knicks owe Anthony Mason?

A. Evidently a practice uni and locker key

Isola - "Good for him. But Mason was also a divisive figure in the locker room his last few years with the Knicks."

AM - The rap on Mase was that his krewe did not suit the style sheet of MSG ushers and security but when was Mase a problem with teammates? Where is the evidence of Mase as divisive?

Q. Isola - I'm not saying that Mason should be ignored by the Knicks but is he a better candidate than Ewing?

A. for Eddy Curry workout podnuh? Definitely

Q. Isola - Is Shawne Williams a better candidate than Ewing's son?

A. Isola - Apparently, the Knicks believe the answer in both cases is a resounding yes. The Knicks have the right to make that call even if cutting one Ewing and ignoring the other is just flat out wrong.

AM - Cutting Matt Carroll was wrong. Tampering with George McGinnis was wrong. Firing Ernie Grunfeld was wrong. Cutting Junior was strictly business
PS - Marcus Landry was a good story. Plus he could play

Papabear Says

Maybe D'Antoni had something to do with that. Maybe to make sure that Patrick Ewing ain't breathing down his back for his replacement. Once again we slapped Ewing Sr. in the face.

First off its not like we are talking about dissing Babe Ruth here.

Ewing was paid a lot of money, played his heart out. He also hid injuries and looked out for himself and manipulated the front office to get his way and made sure he got his big contract and style of play stayed condusive to his statistics.

Then when he had his big fat contract and was being phased out he requested a trade and divided the lockerroom.

Ewing took a big fat dump on the franchise and its stench lasted for years. Dolan is a little prick who does not forget such things. He seems like a loyal guy if your loyal to him.

Mase was riding around with naked 14 year olds in the limo and was a ticking time bomb. I think they let former players work out and perhaps they are just trying to give him a chance to crack into the coaching ranks by letting him work with Eddy and build a reputation.

Ewing has been a primadonna before and has thought he deserved to be head coach even before he ever was an assistant.

A guy like MDA had the clout at the time in his contract that he is going to have his guys or have final say in who he got. Herb seems rooted here so I doubt Pat gets an assitant job.

If your trying to play up tempo game the last guy you want is Pat Ewing around.

We did him a solid favor by keep trying to bring Jr. into the fold.

There are 29 other teams that he could have tried with. Both Father and son that is!

I do admire Ewing who is famous for being tight with his money and smart with it so I doubt he needs the gig for money and has stuck with it as long as he has. That itself is a sign of humility I was not expecting from him.

Perhaps one of the other 29 teams has a need for a lengendary big man to coach them?

I couldn't care less about Shawne right now. He won't be a Knick, so good luck with the Nets.

Moving on
