A second round exit. Look, I still say Amar'e is better than Bosh, but Carmello is NOT better than LeBron and Wade, so when we'd be facing them in the playoffs, we'd be getting killed every year with him going one on one against them and we don't have our other young weapons to at least cushion that. With him, we know what there is. He is what he is. With Gallo and Randolph, they might not be BETTER than Melo, but they might end up being better fits for this team, which people seem to not be looking at. At least if we wait until free agency, we can keep those guys AND get Melo. That makes more sense. If Melo is really serious about this, he'll either wait until free agency, or he will force the Nuggets to trade him here for cheap, which is possible IMO because they don't want to lose him for nothing, or the Bulls become handcuffed and get him for Noah, which doesn't make them better.

Either way, trading for him the price he has RIGHT NOW is plain stupid.

We'll never be able to build a team that even comes close to Miami or the Bulls with Melo, Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer. I'm pretty sure you love saying that, as you do in about every thread you post in. Not sure if you know this or not, but saying it over and over wont make it true.

Potential is dictated by skills, size and athleticism. Since AR and Gallo are top shelf in at least 2 of those 3 (AR all three) their potential is very high.

I'd love for you to rate all players under 24 in the league. Danilo Gallinari and Anthony Randolph aren't even in the top 20.

Dude doesnt get it tkf --I like the team--dont even really care about melo unless they want picks and chandler

It is going to take a team, deep with talent from 1-7 players to beat the heat.. lets say amare outplays bosh, which I think he can, then you have a talent deficit when it comes to matching up with lebron and wade.. adding melo is not going to make up that deficit. You have to beat them with depth, size and overall team talent.. if we are trying to get melo to think we can now match talent with miami, is a pipe dream.. especially when you depleat your size and talent on the front line..

and him being a knick for the next 4 years at this cost, guarantees me what? nothing right? well at this point, I like the possibilities and the lower cost involved. I like the possiblity of gallo and AR growing into great players for this team, I also like the possiblity of adding melo to this young core.. I will take these possibilities.. the cost for the guarantee is a bit too steep for me..

I like the idea of letting the young uns run for at least one season.

Melo doesn't guarantee a championship.
Gallo and Randolph aren't guaranteed to be anywhere close to Melo when they're 26.

Keeping Gallo and Randolph at least gives us a 3 year window where we're paying them 2-5 Million while they develop.
Then you see what you can do with the rest of the $ left over.
Maybe you get lucky with some late draft picks.

Trade for Melo and about $30 M is set in stone for the next 5 years between him and Melo. If you trade Gallo and Randolph where are the cheap fillers for the roster? If you trade the draft picks where is help coming from?

BTW Sergio... obviously Gallo and Randolph aren't at the level of a Durant. Duh. I don't think anyone is trying to say that.

"You don't pass up the chance to acquire a 26 year old 30 ppg scorer like Carmelo Anthony."

Do you look at anything beyond the simple box score totals? Monta Ellis put up 25 pts per game last season. Why are GMs staying as far away from him and his contract as possible?

"And heck, Gallinari and Randolph aren't going to be at the level of Starks and Oak, which makes these threads even more confusing."

Dude the kids are 21-22 years old how the F do you know if they're going to be a the level of Starks or Oak? The way you are so sure about what happens in the next 6-7 years kind of amazes the hell out of me.

Could you please try to do some research and try to state what you're saying in a logical way before just blurting out whatever comes into your head?

yea, as I said in the previous post, you are going to have to beat miami with size, skill and depth. trying to add another, lesser star to say you are keeping pace, while depleating your team of youth, size and skill is not the recipie to beat that team...

The pistons beat the lakers, not because they had talent to match kobe and shaq.. no one did.. they beat the lakers because players 3-7 on the pistons were just flat out better than players 3-7 on the lakers, or at least played better.... true , this is a star league, but over the years, it has been proven that good teams with good depth can win.

Uh, watch games. They are not at the level of Kevin Durant and co. Not even close.

Uh, no one is arguing with you about Kevin Durant or Derrick Rose but Steph Curry is questionable and you only listed 3 players "better" than them younger than 22. Back it up.

I bolded the guys that have the potential to be on the same level or better than Randolph and Gallo. So far, I think, based on both potential and injury problems, the guys that will CLEARLY be ahead of them are Durrant, Rose and POSSIBLY John Wall.

I could put Evans there, but I mainly just see him driving to the hoop and haven't seen much else so far except on occasions. Bynum is injury prone, and Oden is Oden. Curry could be there, but who knows what his ceiling is because of his size. He wont be able to guard anyone consistently. Jennings has the potential to be there but you don't know. He seems to have a big head. Lopez is nice but Randolph has a higher ceiling because of his athleticism, shooting and ball handling.

come on man, I loved starks, but lets not for get his 2-10000000 shooting performance and other mental meltdowns.. great emotional player, not a winner..

Talent wise, gallo and AR have more than starks and oakley. at this point, we don't know what these guys will be, but you have to like their size and ability. Ewing didn't win, because of jordan, the same reason why malone and barkley didn't win as well.. lebron is great, but he is no jordan.... having melo and amare is tempting, but the cost is too much for us at this point... If you consider amare a star, then be patient, we won 29 games last year with lee, leading our team.. don't you think adding amare, AR, and the other talent we have good for at least another 15 wins? yet you want to sell the farm for melo and a few more wins?

again... your looking at max cap space next offseason. You will have Amare, Felton, Mosgov, Douglas, Gallo, AR, Fields, Rautins under contract and enough money to sign a max guy or close to max guy whether its Melo, Parker, Dalembert, Marc Gasol, whoever... thats a great position to be in. Why give up some of those players for Melo now? It makes zero sense, because you HAVE to resign him. You blow two chips... your young guys and your cap space.

Is this a joke? Sam Dalembert and Marc Gasol are not at the level of Carmelo Anthony.

No ones saying they are, what people are saying is if in order to get Carmelo you are giving up all of our young promising players, then the overall upgrade of a trade with Denver isn't so good. In my opinion Gallo+AR+Chandler+our picks+Marc Gasol IS better than just getting Carmelo at the cost of all those players and you can then still do other trades to improve the team.

I just hope Carmelo Anthony is serious about wanting to be here and only here and waits it out. If Chicago or New Jersey gets Melo, we are really screwed. We'll never be able to build a team that even comes close to Miami or the Bulls with Melo, Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer. We'll be the Atlanta Hawks and perenial 1st or 2nd round swept team every single year.

Danilo Gallinari and Anthony Randolph aren't even in the top 20.

how about under 22 years old. Yes they are. Its a fact. Case closed

There aren't a lot of players under 22 in the league anyway but I'm willing to bet Danilo Gallinari and Anthony Randolph aren't in the top 15. It's fact that they aren't Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry or Derrick Rose good. Case closed.

Lazy lazy.

I'll make the damn list.

Players under 22 that are decent (or projected to be):

Kevin Durant
Russel Westbrook
Tyreke Evans
Derrick Rose
Brandon Jennings
Eric Gordon
Gallo
Randolph
Jrue Holiday
James Harden
Serge Ibaka
JJ Hickson
Rodrigue Beaubois
Michael Beasley
Jonny Flynn
Derrick Favors
Nicolas Batum
Demar Derozan

John Wall
Demarcus Cousins
Evan Turner
Greg Monroe
Lance Stephenson
Blake Griffin
Gordon Hayward

Players who are 22:

Stephen Curry
Ty Lawson
Andrew Bynum
Austin Daye
Greg Oden
Deandre Jordan
Brandon Wright
Chase Budinger
OJ Mayo
Mike Conley
Kevin Love
Brook Lopez
Spencer Hawes
Thaddeus Young
Robin Lopez
Bayless
Casspi
Mcgee

thanks for providing the list dude - sergio can back up his assertions now with some actual factual evidence. shouldn't be too hard for him now.

exactly, that point seems to be missed. trading for melo now, and giving up all of those assets does denver a huge favor... I am still all for waiting until next year.. Denver is not going to give him away and nor should they, but on the other hand, we don't need to overpay...

A guarantee costs more than a possibility. Waiting means we potentially miss out on Carmelo all together. Trading for him now guarantees him in a Knick Uni for the next 4 years.

and him being a knick for the next 4 years at this cost, guarantees me what? nothing right? well at this point, I like the possibilities and the lower cost involved. I like the possiblity of gallo and AR growing into great players for this team, I also like the possiblity of adding melo to this young core.. I will take these possibilities.. the cost for the guarantee is a bit too steep for me..

Ok fair enough.

I will just say I dont expect other teams in the league to sit on their hands all season if Carmelo is available.

I'm not buying Kevin Love, Eric Gordon, Cousins, Griffin and Lopez (Whom I like) as well as Mayo and Evans as well as Jennings.

I'll give him Durant, Rose, maybe Curry and Westbrook for now, and maybe Wall, although he hasn't played an NBA game yet, so I'm holding out on him so far.
