Well I think it's stupid to discuss something that hasn't happened,or criticize a GM for something that hasn't happened, as if it has happened. But I guess it wouldn't be a messageboard without stupid either.

They're just not gonna want to pay him I fear--they'd rather free up that cap room for Melo or whoever else (which Brown for any kid of substantial money directly impacts btw)..Real strong chance both of these guys aren't on the team next year..In the meantime, Rautins looked overmatched this summer and although Fields showed some real nice things, he may not be ready--even MDA said he wants to see the kid play at that level once training camp starts..Point is even though he could use some development time/refinement just like every young player, Landesberg definitely had the talent and maturity to play in the NBA this year if need be. No question about it. With another year or 2 of seasoning at UVA, this kid could've been a lottery pick..I don't know what the hell people saw in him but to me, he was already 1st round material THIS YEAR.

What's not to like about Landesberg on the Knicks? Someone explain it to me please. Talent, youth, upside, size, ability to jump in and contribute this year if need be, negligible cap impact...I mean you name it, he was the perfect fit for what we're looking for...I would love to hear an explanation from Walsh/MDA on why he made no sense but Shannon Brown does for $5M.

You would think the Knicks would've been all over this kid..I guess they feel they got something similar in Landry Fields --- only problem is Fields might wind up being your only 2G by next year. You're still gonna need more..Landesberg would've thrived in this up tempo style...I'm really at a complete loss--we had him in for a workout. It's not like they didn't know who he was..I mean even if he shot the ball terribly that day, you can see the kid has very good talent. Superior talent. It's plain as day..Local kid too..Would've been a real nice story..I can't understand how we let him get away..Would've been a nice young piece on the cheap that we would've had under our control for the forseeable future. Now we're looking at overpaying through the nose for Shannon Brown, something we were doing a good job of avoiding up until now apparently...Landesberg signed a 2-year deal to go play in Israel..You better believe I'll be monitoring his progress. Very well could be an option for us 2 years from now...Only problem is once he gets done ripping up this Israeli league, I fear the price is gonna go up..Two years from now, he'll be the one looking for Shannon Brown money..We did a very good job overall this off-season, don't get me wrong, but as far as piecing the last couple of roster spots together, we don't appear to be going at it the right way.

I agree with you 100% about the abilities of Sylven. I have been watching him since his HS days at Holy Cross in Queens. Also saw a couple of his workouts while preparing for the draft. Kid has a great work ethic and actually dramatically improved his shooting percentage from the NBA range. I really wonder what happened. I could've sworn he would be a late 1st rounder early 2nd. Anyone know what he's doing now?

Exactly. Why not just share the information? If you did maybe some discussion could come from it, like the fact that those salaries are for 11 roster spots, and if you include the roster hold for the last spot it puts the available number around 2.5M?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the $.47K roster hold wouldn't count in this case since the $.47K would be part of the salary.

Brown is just trying to leverage his contract up with the Lakers. He probably knows that LA won't give him $4M/yr, but he will get some good $$ from the Lakers ($3M?) and stay on the team he has won two rings with.

The problem with tht theory is that if they were to say that a "4 million offer has been made" they paint themselves in a corner. If LA comes back and says they aren't interested in him any more and then he signs elsewhere for less then 4 mill then the credibility of the agent comes in to question. Risky move.

I'm not even sure if there is even a 4 million dollar offer on the table- more likely 2 years for about $5M. Hollinger had this tweet a couple of days ago:

I have no idea about the Exception thingee, but it seems pretty clear to me that we cannot pay anyone $4M/yr. at this point without a trade, and why would the Lakers, who are looking to get rid of Sasha want to take on someone from the Knicks. I also know that the Knicks would probably not release any actual $$ numbers at this point, so I still have to think that the $4M number comes from Brown or is a misunderstanding by the reporter.
