Hahn reports we have about $2.5M under the cap to spend. Lakers would pay double dollar for dollar cause they are over the cap.

According to two people familiar with how the David Lee sign-and-trade arrangement was structured, the Knicks do not have to wait the standard 60 days before combining Ronny Turiaf, Anthony Randolph or Kelenna Azubuike with other players in a trade. The Knicks were still under the salary cap when Lee was signed and traded, exempting them from the 60-day waiting period, which applies only to players acquired with a trade exception by teams that are over the cap.

1. expect another trade then. walsh doesnt do these things just by accident.... atleast if u judge by what the ool' man has had to say lately...about rickling **** in there even when its not whats expected.

Walsh loves backdoor methods.

Remember Harrington trade? (during Indiana...)

I love this move. For once the Knicks are being smart and picking up the value guys instead of communicating who they want, and overpaying for them (i.e. Duhon). It is nice to see Walsh just acting in the role of a proactive GM.

if we're using Wilson & either Fields or Walker as part of a deal for CP3, then signing Brown makes a lotta sense... otherwise i don't see the point... how many athletic swingmen do u need?

Shannon Browne is Fred Jones in his youth... he will bring exciting dunks & a little defense but not much else... once again Knicks fans are losing their minds about borderline role players joining this team... last year it was Spanish Chocolate Nash Lite... simma down y'all, simma down.

I guess those Tony Douglas rumors to Portland for Rudy are true, then. Cant see Shannon signing here to be a back up to Felton and Douglas. With Douglas out of here, Shannon can back up both guard spots.

It's an exciting move. This is what I was looking for--a quality bench enhancement--they certainly are trying to put together an exciting teams for the fans. I really hope they get Brown and I give the Knicks management a lot of credit.

This is what we have been positioning for, for 2 years

I just hope that people will like me

I'm with the camp that doesn't see what he brings that Walker doesn't. But at the right price, he might be a nice trade piece.

i dont know why people are so mad at this. shannon brown is an athletic freak and played an integral part off the bench for the champs.. how can you go wrong?

This is a bit different tho. We didn't have viable players at key positions and we were only HOPING that those unproven kids like Rodriguez would work out. Don't get confused about enthusiasm for a late season move that is really about cap clearing and now being excited about building up the roster with insurance that can play at least up to a decent NBA level. Each situation is different and not equivalent in importance or intensity of feeling. Even if people sounded just as excited then as they are now, it's not the same thing. Circumstances have changed.

At least Walker did stick and that's not bad considering what we gave up to get the players we did last year. Now we're basically rounding out the roster with nice pieces that can either be moved later or can fill the gaps after a trade is made and if no trade is made they're nice bench support.

A lot of the reason for MDA not going deep is that there wasn't a lot of depth on his teams here on in PHX. Once we started stripping the team to save cap, the bench really didn't have a lot to offer. Sure you could just play guys but that wouldn't help win games. Now the team is full of players that can actually contribute if called upon. There would be more justification for going 9 deep and 10 on occasion. Depth is a good thing, but it's not everything.

A couple of points in regards to not using the bench. The team started out 1-9, they were not winning anything the way D'Antoni used the bench. The team won 29 games and some of the guys that were sitting were rookies including a lottery pick. The excuse that the bench wasn't being used because they couldn't help the team win games doesn't fly. I hope D'Antoni uses his bench next year and develops guys but past practice even when his team was losing at an incredibly high rate, he chose not to play his young guys or go to his bench.

I recall D'Antoni specifically saying he likes to keep his rotation short, 7-8 man, because it gives clear defined roles and players don't have to look over their shoulder to the 9th and 10th man. What I don't get though is if the guy likes to run and play uptempo, why not use our depth and keep our legs fresher than the opponents?

D'Antoni can be really stubborn about his short rotation. The 8th man in the rotation would still get a good 15-20 minutes, but the 9th would get none. So when Hughes or Nate didn't work out, they went from getting decent time to riding the bench all game.

Picking up Shannon Brown for the right price would be a great move. He's underrated and undervalued because he backs up Kobe and sees limited time, but he would be a nice fit here. His athleticism is a given, and i think he's outside shooting would be more consistent with more time. A lineup of felton, brown, gallo, stoudemire, and randolph is a nightmare of a run and gun team and would be awesome.

The reason why the short rotation is used by coaches, not just MDA is because you get your best players on the floor for longer and that usually means better play. When I said that the bench wasn't really deep on PHX or NY, that is a fact and is part of the reason, tho as was noted not ALL of the reason why MDA went with short rotations. He and other coaches that like the short rotation, like predictability. They like knowing what to expect from the players they run out there. There's this idea that stretching a few more players into the mix somehow leads to wins. That really can't be proven, since few coaches won more than MDA did when he was using those short rotations in PHX. Getting to the WCF's twice they didn't lose cuz starters were tired and they wouldn't have won if they only played the 9th or 10th guy in the playoff series.

We'll see if MDA makes more use of 9th or 10th guy. I would guess that he'll likely go with about 9 guys given our depth. that 9th guy can get more solid minutes if not shared with a 10th guy. I actually am in favor of shorter rotations. Not 7 man but 8-9 is enough on a regular basis.

I'd rather have a shooting guard who can shoot.

If MDA would use a 9 man rotation, we could use Shannon Brown. But he doesn't. By using a short rotation and an uptempo offense, the team that gets tired is us, not the other team who substitutes more.

A question: If you were Shannon Brown, would you want to re-sign with the Champion Lakers Team and live/play in LA or come to the Knicks who have been disfunctional for the entire decade. Yes, we are rebuilding, but we aren't there yet.

What is with you guys? Do you not recognize that this man has done this for years to great effect. His teams in PHX weren't tired!!!! They got beat, but it wasn't from fatigue. He actually has some bad luck that may have been part of the reason he didn't make the finals a couple of times.

Tell me how tired are you if you win 62 games and get the WCF's? Obviously not tired enough to lose the 1st 2 playoff rounds. There are plenty of opportunities over the course of a season to get players rest. I expect he'll go with a 8-9 man rotation which is just fine.

To start off , there is nothing wrong with me. Second, I pushed for a 9 man rotation last year when we had guys who can play sitting on the bench. Guys like Duhon played far too many minutes when they weren't producing. Also, by playing Duhon so much, he was hurt, and playing hurt. When you have all-stars like Nash, you give them extra time. But we didn't have that last year. That was the time to use the bench more and run. How many times did you see Duhon walk the ball up.

This year, we are in a similar position. We have a lot of equally talented young players, but no superstar except for Amar'e, and we want to be a little careful on pushing him too far, so we preserve his knees.

It is really simple. When you have a starting lineup of star/solid players, you have play a shorter rotation. When you don't, but you do have a lot of equally talented players with a stron bench, you open up the rotation.
