Felton should be the captain. He seems like the type to lead plus he is the PG which also helps. Amare does not strike me as a leader, and neither does anybody else on the roster. Least of all Gallo. He can barely speak english, can't have him as a captain.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Chandler? Odd choice

Why?

Chandler will give you a good effort, but is not the type of player to be vocal on the court or get in a guy's face to motivate someone or tell them what they should have done. Just doesn't seem to be part of his make-up at this time in his career.

Who's face does Jeter ever get in? H20 was captain and he wasn't much of the vocal type either. Chandler is the wise choice for Captain it can only enhance his standing on the team to be more vocal and when the quiet one speaks most listen to what he has to say.

The title of captain should not be to "enhance one's standing on the team."
You're putting the cart before the horse. The leader needs to be respected on his own. People don't respect you just because you have a title, it just brings the title down.
I don't think you give a captain title to someone who may or may not even have a starting position on this team.
There may be cases where you have a seasoned vet that's been thru the war and can lead, but this isn't one of them.

Same goes for Gallo. Duke needs to earn his stripes.

I say Stat gets the nod, or as someone said, no one for the time being.

There can be multiple captains. Amare and Chandler should be the captain. Chandler has produced worked hard is the longest tenured Knick. Amare is automatically the face of the franchise and should be given the title.

Leadership is earned not doled out. What you are describing is bazaroo world.

This philosophy seems to be working ok in San Antonio where Tim Duncan is the captain. I don't think being demonstrative in your actions on the court makes you a leader just as being quiet and controlled doesn't make you not a leader. Chandler is the longest tenured returning Knick other than Curry and the most accomplished. He is known for having a very good work ethic. I think if you are choosing captains he should be in the conversation.

did you just compare Duncan who leads his team to multiple championships to Chandler?

Weber to Kaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhn: "Darko and me shouldn't be in the same sentence."

I compared their on court demeanor and I am pretty sure you are aware of that. The guys I suggested for captain were Felton and Amare. I said if you had tri-captains Chandler and Turiaf should be considered. Who would you replace Chandler with on that list? I don't think considering him is ridiculous at all.

To me being a captain is being a leader. Picking out a random characteristic of 2 players that may be similar has nothing to do with being a leader.

They are also both right-handed, does that qualify Chandler? You get my point.

Send Clock Forever!!!! And Stat for teh captain!!!

Good quote and a telling story. Much as I like Gallo I'm not sure he fits the bill for cap'n those 'talians are as volatile as us Greeks/Armenians. Better look to the cool headed ones. For now this will likely be Amar'e or Felton by default.

im not so sure thats a great mix if the coach does have to make an "example" with AS like red/reed. im all in favor of leaving the capn title open till some player(s) show some leadership and can truly take the role and do more than some of the recent ones have done. this title shouldnt be just a title. its gonna be up to the coaches to determine what they want in the capn, and what the roles may be so it may not be a vocal guy, or some "locker room police" type or maybe it is...

i cant see any good of naming a capn at this point when the team hasnt done much together.

True. There's no candidate here like Willis. But I expect someone - probably Amare - will step up and do the job.

“I can’t speak of the past because I wasn’t there on a regular basis so I can only speak for myself and what I know I can bring to the table. All I’m gonna tell you is that we are going to have guys that want to play hard, guys that’s definitely coming here to win, to make the necessary sacrifices to win basketball games. So I’m not here to speak about the past, but the future. We’re going to play team basketball. We are going to be playing together and everybody moving in the same direction. We are all here to win basketball games—not to lose. That’s something that people need to understand is that we will do whatever it takes, whatever we have to do to make that happen. I have talked to plenty of guys on the team already."

I was on vacation with Gallo[Danillo Gallinari. I have been working out with Stoudamire every day. I have worked out with Toney Douglas. I have talked to Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton. And of course my two partners from Golden State Azubuike and Randy [Anthony Randolph]. So I’ve been in contact with a lot of those gus and I think they are excited and there is one key word: winning."

Martin - not only is Turiaf saying the right things, he appears to be making a special effort to get to know his band of brothers.

Marc Berman can jack off about Stephon Marbury until his right hand falls off.

The second paragraph from Turiaf is, without question, the best quote of the Summer.

This is really encouraging except for one fact...

Malik rose and Q-rich said the same thing 2 years ago when MDA got hired..I will also take into accout that, they started out that year pretty good until they traded zach and jC, then the marbury issue, and 7 man rotation completely sabotage any chemistry they had going
