Cosmic, max cap space is pretty well intaxt. The $2M (call it $4m since there will be a 1st rd draft pick) can be made up since we have a lot of low cost young players. You cannot expect Ronny Turiaf to exercise a $4.36M player option, that will me they still have room for a maxp player. Also, $3M for a 7'1 center who appears to be athletic would seem to be a great coup. Also, I think the word on the street is that the Carmelo trade will happen sooner rather than later. There is talk that it will happen prior to training camp. I wouldn't bank on that, but, we are going to be ok in that sense.

dude is signed for $3M. you don't think we could dump/trade $3M?

Why did we just sign a complete unknown piece of crap player for 3M per year? To do what? Who wants to trade for him?

This is our power move to fill out the roster? Giving this bum hack nobody knows about a THREE YEAR deal? Really?

Come'on. I must be dreaming....

Draft express has him rated pretty highly as an overseas free agent. I never heard of him, but I reserve judgment. He looks a bit stiff (like most 7 footers) but otherwise mechanically sound in his vids.

The point of the discussion is not if martin or anyone else saw him play.

We didn't see him play. We didn't say he's a superstar. We're just as in the dark about him as you are. The difference is we did some research on the guy and got some very positive results. I think Donnie Walsh and the scouting staff know more about players than you do. You'd probably be the same guy called Arvydas Sabonis a scrub if we ever brought him here in his prime. Not that this guy is Sabonis but my point remains.

We are not calling him garbage or good. It seems to be a relatively decent signing of a good young prospect and we're reserving our opinions until we see him play. You have already made up your mind on him because his name sounds funny to you. You have no idea who he is, have not watched 1 second of him play or even read anything about him and you jump to conclusions.

Classic Cosmic.

Maybe this is the enforcer who is going to give up some hard fouls against the guy whose posse questioned Walsh's virility?

This signing is all about the kind of players Walsh wants on a team. Based on the comments I read about his offensive skills I can't see that MDA would want this guy as a 5. Getting this guy is all Donnie. I think there is some tension going on between him and MDA. I also think the GS trade is one Walsh wanted more than MDA.

We have enough bulk to actually inspire some fear in people who try to drive on our basket. Folks expecting a free ride to our hoop are going to be facing a rude reality this season.

By the way- how does this set back our cap room?

Hey Palladin 55 I don't hide that Im not really a fan of how mDA coaches basketball--maybe it looks snazzy but I prefer the way DW built up the Indiana frontline--hey that was a time when there were many big teams and getting to the basket wasnt easy. We just saw a monsterous Laker team win it all two times in a row. You have to be able to play defense and rebound to win and you need big guys to score easy points and clog the lane on D. If I had my pick for this team--I would go with a Mark jackson--he had good things to say about Randolph and I just see him-=--as a guy who played for a lot of good coaches--he was here when Pitino used 10 guys --I just think a guy like M Jackson would be better for this team. Thats just the way I see it. I see Mark Jackson like a Scotty Brooks like coach.

I don't think it's far fetched to assume that he's garbage.

Seeing him or not.

Bet ya when I see him my opinion of him will get WORSE. If that's possible. Yeah, it's probably possible.

Do you understand how dumb and offensive you sound sometimes, bro? Calling this guy Sloth because he's a tall Russian guy? I mean, seriously, this is 2010. Open your mind a little bit.

Guys, this is our first round pick this year, onl;y everybody slept on it and we waited until it was right for us to actually pick him. He may now play on year one, but they will surely try to develop his offensive play, as he seems already solid on D. He is also another cheap chip for trades. Come on, 3 mill on a 23 year old 7'1" center? Who wouldn't complete a trade with a guy like that?

Thanks Ewing - was just wondering how much this did really impact our cap space next year.
Question though. The 2011 contracts for Gallo, Douglas, Randolph, and Walker are all team options. Do we have to pick up the team options before signing FA's or could we hold off and use that as additional cap space?

Will be interesting to see. We're paying a lot, but nobody really knows anything about him. Could be a good signing; I imagine there must be something to it, because I can't see why we'd do it otherwise. I guess we'll find out, in time. Way too early to make a judgment.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

You got me. I am ripped.

Yet even if I were sober.......there is no way I'd be as ecstatic about signing some gigantic pituitary gland factory from Russia as some are.

What is going on here I won't ever understand.

Yet it seems suddenly this guy is a fan favorite destined for stardom who will lift the lowly Knicks to NBA finals contention... or well, something. Although, that is probably the case of beer and bottle of tequila I destroyed with my neighbor tonight talking.

Still, the idea stands: WHO THE HELL? WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO HIGH ON THIS WORTHLESS MEAT BAG?

Wow... we're reduced to this, huh, being excited about someone that probably can't even add 1+1.

Great. I feel good now. Knicks 2011 champs!

Can't use those as cap space. They would have capholds of the same amounts until we resigned them or renounced them.

I am totally in on an MJAX hire. He has tremendous character on and off the court and is a leader. This is a young, rebuilding team that needs a guy that will mentor and coach its young players. I don't think D'Antoni is that guy. He certainly hasn't been the past two years.

Notice how Cosmic never answers the posts that make sense (like mine) and instead repeats himself over and over, then throws in lame stuff like us calling him a fan favorite and leading us to the NBA Finals? Eventually posters just give up and move on. It's a theme. Cosmic never fails. Guy is the Jamal Crawford of posters.

Bet ya when I see him my opinion of him will get WORSE. If that's possible. Yeah, it's probably possible.

Come'on now.

Nothing to defend here everything to BASH. THREE YEARS for some hack we've never seen? That nobody has ever seen? I can imagine Sloth from Goonies stepping out onto the court.....

Lol... you been drinkin? I been working on my liquor cabinet tonite... somehow, my fiancee is sleeping and I am here with a spreadsheet open talking about some 7'1 russo and trying to figure out why you dislike him so much. Did he delonte west you or something?

Nobody is calling him the next Biedrins even (DISCLAIMER-- THIS KID IS THE NEXT BIEDRINS!!!!)--- lol... just saying $3m doesn't seem like so much for a 7'1 Drago.

What makes sense?

That we locked up Sloth to a 3 year deal that kills a chance for a max slot in 2011?

An absolute nobody player? To a big deal?

Is someone sabotaging us?

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!?!?

Even BRIGGS can't possibly sign off on such a thing.

http://popcornmachine.net/ A must-use tool for NBA stat junkies!
Another cheap big with upside (Knicks sign Timofey Mozgov 7'1" Russian - 3 year deal)
