I think we lose the midlevel exception once we renounce all of our free agents rights.

Is Miami going to bring a Florida tax attorney in their LeBron Pitch Squad? I gotta say, the tax angle is a tough one to ignore.

As for hot chicks, they are always just a private jet ride away, am I right Mikhail?

tax angle is a non factor as there are rules in the CBA that equalize what players can be paid between non tax states such as Fla and Tex.

There is no advantage to be gained there.

O word? Thanka for the info fish, I was always wondering about that.

This plan has FAILURE written all over it. I have to laugh if after all this time this is our "sales pitch" to LeBron. Come take 11 mil and play here. Sure he will

which plan? The actual Knick plan or the one that SI thinks is our plan?

I said this plan, in a thread detailing the SI plan. Its pretty self explanatory im talking about the one outlined in this thread. Might this not be the Knicks plan? Of course it may not. But after the last 10 years, excuse me if i don't have complete confidence we're gonna handle this right

You could sign earl watson to be the point guard and trade douglas/chandler/curry for joe johnson. That deal makes sense for atlanta and make them better long term.

Watson-Rautins
Johnson-Walker
Lebron-laundry
Gallo
Bosh

Give Johnson a little less then the max and resign Baron

the plan outlined in this thread is beyond retarded, so I have to agree with you there.

As for the Knicks and current management its certainly different from the last 10 years no?

This is the first management that has executed on a plan since the plan was get players around Ewing. Isiah's plans last 6 months each

I think it's clear that the Knicks' key selling point is the NYC largest market experience. The existing talent isn't particularly compelling vs some of the other big teams.

Knicks: Gallo, Chandler, Douglas, Curry
Chicago: Rose, Noah, Deng, Gibson
Miami: (Wade), Beasley, Haslem, O'Neal
Nets: Harris, Lopez, T. Williams, Courtney Lee
Clippers: Kaman, B .Davis, Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, Drew Gooden
Portland: Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Andre Miller, Camby

Oddly, I like NJ's building blocks perhaps the best if the goal is to add Lebron/Bosh - they have a very legit shot-blocking center, necessary to try to neutralize Dwight Howard in the east.

I like Gallo's potential, but our best players (Lee, Harrington) aren't returning. Unless we can convince everyone that Curry is really gonna perform (or convince them that using Curry as bait we can get some good supporting talent), we've got a bit of a gap.

The selling point that you didn't mention is the ability to add an additional top FA this year and next. Yes other teams are positioning themselves to do the same, but it's something to be considered.

The pitch should go something like this:

  • we will win with you and a second superstar - immediately;

  • we are young and getting better - lots of upside and potential for a decade-long run;

  • we have cap room in 2011 and can get athird max;

  • we play in NYC, and you can live in NYC;

  • your legacy is worth more in NYC than it is in any other city - hundreds of millions more (and have the biz case to back it up);

  • if you want to be considered the best there ever was, return glory to the NY Knickerbockers by winning multiple championships;

  • the Knicks have resources that no other team has (including shady russian characters), and will use these resources to help you be the best ever.

As I said in another post, really, really think they should bring more than four guys. Need a billionaire in the room (Bloomberg); need a respected businessman in the room (Bloomberg, maybe Nike Pres, anyone but Dolan); and need a legacy guy like Walt Clyde.

End of day, I hope they get Lebron, but failing this, hope they don't starphuck the cap again just to do something.

The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

There are different people in place, but they were hired by the same incompetent owner, and Dolan is certainly going to figure into this whole show somehow, how much I don't know. Plus, while Walsh has a decent, not great but decent resume', hes also pushing 70 now. He did just draft a stiff like Jordan Hill in the lotto, and put himself into a situation where he will either lose or swap his pick with Houston the next couple years if we miss the playoffs. Hes not going to be here much longer, and losing wouldn't bring in a draft benefit anyway. So He has a vested interest in doing something for the sake of doing something and that could even mean "forcing" some downright scary deals with secondary FAs if we lose out on our top 4-5 targets

I want to be optimistic, i have an open mind. Maybe i just don't want to get my hopes up. But as this has gone one ive gotten more and more pessimistic about our FA

add to your lists Dolan's positives (dont laugh)
Namely his willingness to spend and carry a bloated payroll. He let Isiah add $250mm on a team that wasnt winning. We are one of 2-3 teams in the league who can carry a $80mm+ payroll every year.
