fishmike - I'm with you

The position should be defined as leadership guard.

Anyone can point. Few can lead.

If we could do a deal like trading him for Maynor, I'd do it in a second. We need a backup pg who is actually a pg if we're serious about contending.

TD is a triangle offense PG like Fisher. He's not a D'Antoni PG at all.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

the point guards job is clearly defined in the game of basketball. Everyone has their own style of play....the main attribute of a point guard is that they make their teamates better. TD can clearly play the game, but he doesn't make his teamates better. Point guards do that by making passes and getting the ball into places the average player simply can't. They have to be able to control the tempo of the game and create offense when the plays break down. They have to get the ball to their teamates that's the bottom line. TD simply can't do any of this yet.

Can he shoot? Yes....can he get to the basket and score? yes...does he play defense? Yes...can he push the ball? Yes.....is he a pg? No.

then why did MDA give Marcus Banks a 5 year contract to be Nash's backup? Was it Bank's superior passing or playmaking?

Give me a break.

with the improved talent on this team Douglas is going to be a great player for this team and a big part of the rotation. This is a guy who is going to give you 14/4 a night, shoot close to 50% and play great defense off the bench as the backup PG, 6th man, 3 guard rotations, etc. He's a 30 mpg guy next year. No doubt

Why do some of you think that he can start at pg for MDA, he's not even better then chris duhon.
The kid can score and defend, please do not consider him a fall back option at the point, because your sadly mistaken.

We get caught up in the fact that he can knock down some three's, drive the lane, and defend aggressively and think he's the answer. Why do you think mike left the kid on the bench, he sucks at running the team for more then 2 possesions

Yes he's fast and can finish, but that doesn't make him a pg, i would give this guy up in a heart beat for collison, bayless, flynn, lawson, and the ( for got his name) back up on the suns.

He hasn't shown me anything to suggest he can start

see player below for projected use of MR. TD:

Mike likes to go from fast to even faster off the bench. The PG doesn't have to play like Nash, but he wants a blazing pace and aggression. Since TD is such a solid defender that can help even more to create fastbreaks. Then they'll use the fast sets that are actually part of SSOL to create ball and player movement and easy shots. The ball shouldn't stick in the PG's hands in those plays. In fact a passing SF/PF would be very critical to success of many of the plays. I've had the Book 7 Seconds of Less for over a year and I take a look every so often to pick up stuff. What amazes me is how little of it we've been running in NY. I think this year we'll see a lot more of what MDA usually wants to run.

Here are the principles of the “7 seconds of less” offense:

1. There are good shots and better shots.

2. It takes only one second to make an extra pass to the player
who is more wide-open and better prepared to release his shot in
rhythm.

3. We want an open shot most of the time.

4. This offense has several plays that are very similar, but each
has a slight variation. You should always receive an open shot
with these sets.

5. You play offense before the defense can get set, that is the
value of the up-tempo game.

6. If you play fast then you will be a low-turnover team and not
high-turnover team. If you don’t throw too many passes then you
can’t throw it away as much.

“Coaching is at one level, the art of repeating and almost
doing the same thing over and over so it doesn’t look or sound
like the same thing.”

It isn’t all X’s and O’s:

1. You must get the players to have undying self-confidence in
what they are running and how they will tire down their opponent.

2. It is D’Antoni’s belief that coaches must devise a game plan
that they know and that they know everything about what their
opponent will do. Players don’t have to know everything. It slows
them down.
