If thats the best we can do, then why do it? Lebron is not going to be swayed by an impassioned plea from Boomer Esiason and Alec Baldwin. I guarantee you. Might as well have that Guardian Angel dip get in on it.

If we're going to do it, do it right.

If you saw Baldwin in the movie version of Glengarry Glen Ross you would know this is the guy you want selling the Knicks to Lebron:

... 'Cause only one thing counts in this world: get them to sign on the line which is dotted. You hear me you f--kin' faggots?

This is the guy we need.

you hit it right on the nose. I agree with you 100%

Its not about selling him on NY...this is a different city than any other in the world. A different collective heart beat, energy, even dysfunction. There are extreme positives and negatives. Jeter is the king of this city, or at least has been in recent times. His voice and opinion would carry a lot of weight.

i don't think Jeter could possibly say anything to Lebron that he doesn't already know... Lebron sees the way NY fans appreciate Derek Jeter... he is an avid Yankee fan, he knows what it was like for the Yankees to win a title in NY... if he still doesn't know whether or not he wants to come to NY it will have nothing to do with celebrities getting together to make a We Are the World video in his honor... it will have everything to do with the team that DW will be able to put around him that will influence his decision at this point.

Remember, Lebron is a 25 y/o cat that has pretty much lived in a Ohio housed cocoon during his formulative years and a Nike housed cocoon during his professional career. I dont think he is worldly or even savvy in much outside of b-ball and the Lebron brand. NY prolly intimidates him. This aint Cleveland.

Jeter can be real with him. Like I said, he knows this city --- highs and lows. Lebron does not.

But more so, Jeter carries a stature and presence to him. Jeter saying the same thing as another cat means more. If anything, Jeter's words could confirm or deny what Lebron is thinking.

i dunno about that... Derek Jeter grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan... what did he know about NY before he got here? nothing really other than the mystique & legacy of past Yankee greats... Lebron knows all about the Yankees, but that's got nothing to do with the Knicks... i'm sure being the big star that he is, Lebron's been around to all the major cities & knows what NY is all about at this point... like i said i think we should be focusing more on the type of team DW will be able to put around him, which will impact his decision much more than anything Derek Jeter could possibly say at this point.

thats exactly my point. Jeter came in as an outsider and now he practically owns the city something that Lebron is, ostensibly, trying to do.

Visiting NY is a much different animal than trying to be the man in NY.

he's a gully actor. I feel you. Just that he's not going to resonate with Lebron.

Jeter is bigger than sucking up to Lebron and feeding his inflated ass ego!

Jeter got a job and is busy these days. IF the dude is in cleveland and they want to exchange shaving tips with his Gillete razors thats cool. For all we know Jeter might have already pitched him but its not gonna be a publicity ass stunt like Lebron is pulling which his attention whore recruitment gig.

You want to impress put some hard core CEO types, a few fashion Icons, some internationally aclaimed artists and musicians. Not cheesy celb types like that fake ass Trump. Bring that dusty money around. Take him to lunch at the metropolitan club and show him some Park Avenue duplexs, some cribs at the Dakota instead of new flashy penthouses!

NYC don't need Lebron like Cleveland does. NY will still be fine without him. He wants to JOIN in thats cool, but the city is bigger than him.

YOu want in on the Legacy like Babe, Namath, Clyde, Willis, Messier, Jeter, DiMaggio, Berra, Etc etc, then you gotta BRING IT! Can't TAKE IT!!!!

Just as long as he understands that if he talks the talk and does not deliver then NY media and fans will get mid evil on his ass and send his ass back to ohio where they might forgive him.

You want to hang with the legends, then you better bring it. YOu gonna bring that fake ass Isiah,Kenny Rogers, Marbury, Giambi, Mo Vaughn, big contract savior crap, its not gonna be pleasent.

All in Lebron, no chaulk dancing pregame riverdance ass routines here.

Overweight, too.

The actor approach to wooing James is foolishness, to be honest.

James knows what he can get here- he doesn't need anyone to give him a tour.

Walsh, or whoever follows him, just has to make the right decisions in building the franchise if, and when, we get James.

There's still a human element to this. The entire recruiting phase will also have a sort of social aspect to it. These people will look to show Lebron a good time and share experiences of being in NY and what it was like here when the team was winning. They will likely have all kinds of background stories that Lebron would find interesting. It's just a part of the whole process.

The conversation DW and MDA have with Lebron will be the real meat and potatoes part of the pitch. You really do need both to make the best overall impression.
