I thought Cal did a great job in NJ. He really started to turn things around and had those guys playing hard and together as a team after a horrible run. I think he has a tremendous basketball mind and alot of unfortunate events cut short his tenure in NJ. If you remember he had the Nets in the playoffs the year they drafted KVH. The following year the Nets traded some of the pro Cal guys(Sherman Douglas), there was a strike and they got off to a bad start. I think he will be very successful if he comes back to the NBA. I also think he would be a huge upgrade over D'Antoni.

HUGE UPGRADE??? How so? MDA has done more in the NBA than Cal. MDA won 62 with an GOOD but not GREAT team in PHX. I see no reason why he can't succeed here with a better constructed team. I'm sure Cal would do well but as to him being a "Huge Upgrade" over MDA, that's a bit too much.

Cal took over a 30 win team and had it in the playoffs in two years. He was part of a huge purge also but he played his young guys, Kittles and KVH and the Nets improved dramatically under him.

If I remember correctly mda did a similar turn around in phx but it only took him one year so how is cal better?

amazing cal with his track record of cheating keeps getting work... dude craps on a program and flies away free, leaving the school to deal with the mess.

mike did luck into mr nash though.

I'm not real impressed with Callapari. He wins sure but largely due to superior talent acquired through questionable means.
You want a coach that wins regualarly with less talent than others. That isn't him.

I think everyone is missing the point. If Lebron wants Calipari as his coach because of their business relationship. It's simple, you just say bye bye to Mike.

Tell this to Dolan... Pretty expensive bye bye...
And also tell him about Calipari... Jimmy will be exited for sure...

The guy say bye bye to Brown after just one year of a $50 million contract. What's Mike got about $8 million left. I'm sure he wouldn't be opposed to a buyout to tell you the truth. If Dolan uses money as an excuse if LBJ is serious about Calipari he should be vilified everywhere. And let's be honest how worse can Calipari be. I mean you tell me he couldn't earn himself a lottery status like Mike did these pass two years. Oh wait, that is already the bottom.

Calipari isn't leaving so why are we talking about this? We get mda isn't Phil Jackson or pat Riley but he is a good coach and no one can deny that no one can deny that he created a culture and gave them an identityout there in phx. If I'm lebron and I see that Nash was a two time MVP under mda I say to myself,"well I'm better the. Nash and Amare so how would I do playing in that system?"

League sources said Sunday that noted NBA power broker William Wesley continues to work back channels to sell John Calipari and James as a package deal to franchises such as the Bulls, Nets and Clippers with coaching vacancies and salary cap room.

But the source said there has been no discussion of bringing Kentucky coach John Calipari in with James as part of a package deal.

tomorrow there will be a report contradicting this. whatever.

i think the end result is that calipari is going to use the lebron free agency to sleeze his way back into an NBA coaching career. the guy is a total sleeze bag. i hope lebron can see past it, but he seems pretty beholden to his cadre of advisors.

Get rid of a coach who has won over 60 games in an NBA season more then once!

A coach who helped team USA bring the Gold back to the US.

Who players clearly love

For a coach who couldnt win 30 games in any NBA season?

Come the **** on!!

KNICKS on the way UP!!!

It's not even about Callipari IMO! The level of hate for MDA is off the chain with some guys. They never liked Mike and even tho the last two yrs stunk, there's still more positives in Mike's favor than against him. They want Avery or Cal or anybody but MDA! I want to see him with a team of guys that aren't short term rentals or guys selfishly playing for their next contract.

I just can't bash him for failing to reach our expectations under these circumstances. We expected another 10-12 wins but the only way that would happen is if the players did their jobs. All of them! That didn't happen so we lost. Now we cleared the shelves and can restock with much better talent, we need to see what the guy can do 1st.

do college coaches ever work out in the NBA??
the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Larry Brown? Sure he can't stay in one place for more than 7 seconds, but he counts.

I think it's the latter. He won the NCAA Title with Kansas long before he went to Indy and then winning in Detroit.

Boy, how desperate are we? We're willing to take on an NBA coach who hasn't done crap in the NBA, and is even kind of a jackass, from everything I've heard, so that we get LeBron, even though we already have a pretty good coach. Sheesh.

If LeBron is coming here for championships than he will not want Callipari. Callipari wins the knicks nothing and LeBron is just asking for another Cavs situation. Besides I think MDA deserves a chance to coach. He put his time into the Knicks when everyone knew they would suck. He put his record on the line and took on losing he deserves an opportunity to coach a talented team. If after a few years nothing is accomplished than we can consider getting another coach. We can't continue this idiotic coaching carousel that we have become so accustomed to.

no offense, hes getting paid $$$. so dealing with a bad team isnt a credit. he knew what he was signing up for and has gotten some nice coin for 2 years.

It doesn't matter, I think you and I and he and Walsh and everyone here knew perfectly well that this was about the Summer about 2010. NOT what the record for the past couple of years would be. We brought MDA in to lure in and coach free agents. Whether it was a good decision, is a different story, but it's hard to kill Mike. He did the best he could with the roster, IMO.
