Cosmic, you're right, we had to do the trade... we were pushed into the corner & we panicked & gave up an inordinate amount of young assets to do it because we failed to take the necessary steps in advance to clear Jeffries' contract off the books earlier... we failed to make good use of our lottery selection in the draft & we mismanaged his development during a season we should have been using to evaluate our young talent... under what circumstances is giving up a #8 lottery pick & draft rights to 2 future #1's a reasonable price to pay to clear $9 million off the payroll? that's an unreasonable price to pay, but we had to pay it because we couldn't go into the summer w/o the means to land 2 max FA's... i get all that... yet these are all failings on the part of the management... yes, we had to make the trade, but that doesn't excuse the mismanagement of assets.
