"If Walsh can't land either James or Dwyane Wade but ends up with Johnson, another option is luring Toronto's Chris Bosh in a sign-and-trade. Sources claim the Raptors would be open to such a deal if it included David Lee."

Get it done, Donnie! Article also claims that Joe Johnson to NY is a done deal, a wink-wink deal as a fallback for no Lebron/Wade:

"There is a growing sentiment among opposing team executives that at the very least the Knicks will sign Atlanta's Joe Johnson, whose agent, Arn Tellem, orchestrated the Tracy McGrady trade to the Knicks and has been friends with Walsh for 20 years. It's called a 'wink-wink deal,' and even though it is against NBA rules, the practice does exist and is nearly impossible to police.

'I think that's a done deal,' said one Eastern Conference GM."

i'm all for a sign & trade for D Lee if we can land Bosh, but in that instance we had better sign Lebron or Wade... say no to Joe Johnson for the max.

you gotta hope the knicks play it out like orlando did.

sign one BONAFIDE superstar (grant hill = lebron/wade) and then sign an up and coming young player with crazy potential but not worth the full max right now (tmac = rudy gay?) and then hope for the best.

Orlando got Grant Hill in a sign & trade too... they gave up Chucky Atkins & Ben Wallace... then they traded a 1st round pick for T-Mac before he had blossomed into a superstar... we'd have been much better off retaining our assets to use in sign & trade scenarios than hoping the bigname stars will just sign here outright... as it stands, we probably have enough assets to land a guy like Bosh in a sign & trade using D Lee, or Gallo & Wilson, but we're not getting Lebron or Wade in any sign & trades cuz we don't have nearly enough assets to land either of those guys... if we can swing a Bosh sign & trade, we're most likely going to sign Joe Johnson unless Lebron decides the hell with Cleveland & just signs here outright... there's no other way we can land Lebron this summer other than that IMO.

I definitely want to avoid maxing out Joe Johnson, agreed. But if we can secure him for less and max out Bosh in a S&T for Lee, it could allow the Knicks to compete next year and still preserve the possibility of making a big move the following year after Curry is gone.

if we can swing a S&T for Bosh & we can't land Lebron or Wade, i would much rather sign Manu to a lesser deal & use the remainder on a legit starting PG like Felton than maxing out Joe Johnson.

C - Bosh / 2nd round pick / Curry
PF - Gallo / veteran's minimum or SL rookie invitee
SF - Wilson / Walker
SG - Manu / Giddens
PG - Felton / Douglas or 2nd round pick (Vazquez or Wise?)

i can deal w/that for a year until Melo hits the FA market in 2011, at which time we could possibly work some kind of S&T deal w/DEN using some sort of combo of assets from Wilson, Gallo, Walker, Giddens, Douglas or the rights to HOU's 1st round pick in '11.
