when u mortgage all the assets to free up cap space the way we did, the simple answer is yes.

I can't believe this is in doubt. I mean you have GMs saying the Knicks went all in. Dolan asked to speak with Donnie before the trade went down. I'm sure Dolan and his horde expect to be shaking Lebron or Wade's hands at some press conference. Come back with Lebron or don't come back at all was probably the sentiment of that meeting.

The Houston Rockets and New York Knicks are "making progress" in their Tracy McGrady trade discussions, according to a source close to the talks, and Knicks president Donnie Walsh is expected to speak with owner Jim Dolan on Wednesday to discuss the parameters of the deals that have been discussed, and how best to proceed forward.

Several sources say the main holdup at this point is the Rockets asking for a future No. 1 pick as the price for taking on Jeffries, who is owed $6.9 next season. Dolan has always been amenable to throwing $3 million cash into the kitty to make a deal go through, but a decade of sacrificing first-round draft picks has left him hesitatnt to sign off on letting another one go (The Knicks owe their own 2010 pick to Utah).

Donnie was "holding out" to gain top 1 & top 5 protection on those picks... u gotta give the man his props for playing hardball like that.

He did an interview 3yrs ago stating the previous GM probably should have protected(as in solid protection) the picks in the Curry deal and yet signed off on this trade.

That means we traded Hill and 2 picks for Lee.

I think that was the whole point of meeting with Donnie. Letting him know up front what the ramifications could be if he was to strike out. I read on Sporting News that the higher ups wanted no part of the trade. So Donnie pretty much painted himself in the corner.

Yeah. I said that when that trade went down and a couple of posters didn't understand that. It's Lebron/Wade and Bosh or bust.

i doubt even he would be that optimistic... this team sucks right now with T-Mac & D Lee, why would Lebron want to leave CLE to walk into this mess? Camby isn't going to improve the team enough to entice a guy like him to come... Donnie's ideal plan is to somehow convince 2 max FA's to leave their teams in the lurch & sign here straight out this summer... if that fails, he's selling the NY public on the "flexibility" angle... he mine as well call it the "failure" angle in that case, cuz that's essentially what it will be.

I have no doubt the marching orders came down from Dolan. The hesitant to sign off part was a smoke screen. What the hell Dolan knows or cares about draft picks?

Have to phrase it correctly
we traded Hill and 2 picks for Lee and a shot at Lebron. If Lebron does not sign, guess what they are left with.

ROTFLOL @ the protection. It proved to me he didn't really have confidence in his plan. Why would the pick be Top 5 protected in 2012 if we're getting studs this summer and we have an ELITE coach at the helm?

That team with Gallo on the bench would be better than Cleveland if LeBron resigned there. A player like Marcus Camby would go a long way to solving the Knicks defensive problems. The most glaring issue is that there is no big man to defend the rim. Also, the idea is that McGrady would play more consistently next year. There are also multiple ways to improve that team. Chandler could be traded for a PG before the season and Curry's contract can be traded midseason for an impact player.

Signing two max free agents is not a possibility. It would require buying out Curry in a way that reduces his contract by 2 million and then filling out the rest of the team with only minimum players. Not going to happen.

I cant believe people actually have bought in on Camby--guys Camby will be 37 next year--he's been BRUTAL and hurt in Portland --the odds are he's done. You dont give up lottery picks to sign a guy who will turn 37 unless the name is Kobe Bryant or a vet minimum salary that will go unnoticed.

dude, we're discussing what Donnie is likely to do this summer if he misses out on the top FA's... u know as well as i do Marcus Camby will be high on his list if he bombs out on the plan... there is not 1 poster here who thinks it's justified to give up lottery picks to sign guys like him... whether we think it would be justified or not, Donnie's options will be limited this summer if the big names all opt to re-sign w/their respective clubs... he'll be left w/little other choice but to overpay to keep D Lee & offer above market value deals to guys like T-Mac & Camby to fill in roles that need to be filled, because right now our team is completely bare once the season ends.

I think reality will kick in TMS--Camby has been very bad in Portland and now he is hurt. At some point players are just done--he's done--I have to believe they can see that. If Marcus was 31-32 fine but he's not.

i wouldn't assume this management sees anything that's apparent... but i happen to think Camby can still be productive... if u brought him in on a reasonable deal he would be worth a look... definitely not to justify the trading away of assets, but if we bomb out on the first options guys like him will be considered... we will be at the mercy of players & their agents this summer, there's no doubt about that.

everyone said Jason Kidd was washed up too but he's playing some great ball for DAL right now... same goes for Steve Nash... obviously Camby isn't on par w/those guys in terms of conditioning & durability, but even Grant Hill has been able to be productive for the Suns & he's obviously as much if not more of an injury risk as Camby is... let's face it, options will start to become very limited if the big names don't end up signing here... we'll be looking at guys like T-Mac, Manu, Ray Allen, Marcus Camby, David Lee, Ray Felton, Randy Foye, Luis Scola & fill in players like Eddie House, Sergio, etc.

Camby isnt in the plan, except when it comes to filling out the bench. The only way we spend anything on guys like Camby and Jermaine Oneil is if we sign Lebron. Then you put some veteran guys in there

The guy is ancient, and couldnt stay healthy for 60 games when he was 27, much less 37

Going after a 36 yr old Camby to run in this offense is just asking for trouble.
