I can't believe he would say something like that, especially publicly. That's usually discuss in private during negotiations and if that's the case I don't want him. He's pretty much a soft ass big man who benefits from playing in era in which skilled rugged big man are almost extinct..

He's not better then Ewing, hakeem, or D RoB, and those were finesss big men who could also bang.

Lee has gotten better every single season since he's been in the league, why would he not be part of a big 3 or even part of a duo..I'm pretty sure he will be just as good as Bosh is next season

unless he starts knocking down 3's & blocking shots, i seriously doubt that, but anything's possible... it's also possible that Chris Bosh returns next year a better player than he is now also... D Lee is not the only player in the NBA that works on improving his game during the offseason & yet we act as if everyone else will stay stagnant while he continues to improve.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Tracy McGrady’s arrival on Thursday may lead directly to David Lee’s departure in July. The issue is salary-cap rules. By acquiring McGrady’s large expiring contract, the Knicks created nearly enough cap room to sign two superstars this summer. To use that cap room, they first have to renounce the rights to all of their free agents, including Lee.

That means the Knicks will forfeit Lee’s Bird rights, which allow a team to exceed the cap to keep one of its players. Once they are under the cap, they will also lose the midlevel exception, a salary slot worth about $6 million.

So if the Knicks sign two maximum-salaried players, say LeBron James and Chris Bosh, should they become free agents, there will be no cap space left for Lee and no way to keep him. They will have to fill out the roster with players making the N.B.A. minimum.

There are other possible situations. If the Knicks sign only one superstar, they would have about $16 million of cap room left. That would be enough to re-sign Lee (even without his Bird rights) and other players, assuming another team has not signed Lee while the Knicks were chasing bigger stars.

The Knicks could also use Lee in a sign-and-trade deal, perhaps in a dual sign-and-trade for Bosh. However, renouncing his rights negates the sign-and-trade option. Timing is an issue: The Knicks will not claim their estimated $31.5 million in cap room until they have renounced the rights to all their free agents.

I sort of like the idea of a dual sign-and-trade for Bosh. Then we can sign Lebron and possibly use McGrady's bird rights to resign him, as well. Anyone have thoughts on this?

i suggested the dual sign & trade idea for Amare already but the same can hold true for Bosh... since we have cap space we can make an inequitable deal in terms of dollars under the CBA, but i would seriously look to include Curry's deal in any contract talks because that is key to signing other players this season other than just 2 max guys, which we will need to do if we want to be a serious championship contender next year.

A block every third game? From your center?...c'mon...I doubt he averages a charge drawn a month.

good one. You got Jessica Alba a couple drinks into it and she asks you to take her to her room. But all you can see is her ingrown toenail.

Jared Jeffries got some blocks and charges. Lets bring him back instead of Lee.

If you dont see the value of Lee its not really worth discussing.

Jessica can come to my room.

cheers

First a better comparison would be if she suddenly grew a hairlip ...and second if you want JJ back ...well ...I am flat speechless

This guy is just a great player--I don't know any other way to categorize it. I don't know the + - and in terms of $--because it seems like Lee will take 10mm---we need to add not subtract. I really wish we had Lopez instead of Gallo and this would not be a discussion---we need a C. Even Ty Thomas wouldve been a good pick up. If Lebron James really looked at the Knicks and wanted to come here--what other player would he need other than a 7 footer? We have a bunch of intangible players who will gain chemistry over the last 29. Duhon Harrington need to be replaced--we could use a good solid PG and a 7 footer and maybe another guy who can penetrate.

But David Lee is not the problem.

Lee would be fine if we had a dominant C and he was switched to PF, but he can't be the C with guys like Chandler or Gallo as potential PFs. There has to be another big guy that can rebound, defend, block shots etc...

we cant keep hiding all the guys (not just lee) on this teams flaws... we need guys who will at least try to play some d, and not count on someone else to do it.

Moonangie wrote:Lee does a lot more than P&R. He is solid out to 18ft and gets plenty of put-backs, tip-ins and slams. He is a versatile and efficient scorer. Not a bad passer either. But he is a huge defensive liability. I don't see us resigning Lee without a new center to take care of business down low. This year has shown that you can't win if you just let opposing guards blast to the hole with impunity.

Once David establishes a defensive game, he will be one of the most interesting players in the NBA. But I am not sure it will ever happen. Then again, Lee has shown resilience and an ability to up his game (e.g., jump shooting this year). So you never know. Lebron doesn't necessarily need another go to guy with him, since he is the man. He needs effective role players.

LOL. We have seen Lee's defensive game. It has not improved in 4 years and it is unlikely to improve now. THe guy plays no defense most of the time and average defense at his best. He blocks one shot every 4-5 games. You cannot win a championship running this guy at center. If the choice is between Amare at max and Lee at $10 mill, I probably would pick Lee. But if the choice is between Bosh or Lee, I go with Bosh all the way even if we have to pay him the max.

Trust the Process

don't forget we also need a PG like Steve Nash to add to that dominant defensive shotblocking C along w/a couple good perimeter defenders & then we'll all see how good D Lee can really be... you guys are seriously sleeping on Jazzy Lee.
