He would be our 1st big ticket FA, still plenty of time to get our second. It will buy us time if we want to wait for paul or durant and we will be a competitive playoff team until then. Getting johnson and resigning lee isn't ideal, but we should consider it a very successful offseason especially with jeffries and curry still on the books. Plenty of opportunity with those expiring contracts, or after they expire.
we ain't getting much for Jeffries & Curry's expirings next year dude... let's just put it this way, you won't get someone like Caron Butler or Antawn Jamison for those guys... more like an underachieving veteran w/a longterm contract, someone like Elton Brand.
sadly i think you're right TMS. The Heat are trying to dangle Jermaine O'Neal's contract and not getting much. And JON is at least useful vs Curry.
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Contender building is tough stuff if you aren't able to add one of the leagues top 5 players. Right now at least we're in the running!!! Now if we can't make it happen, then you have to go to plan B and that doesn't have to be a 3-4 year slow grind. If we're in the Mix for a title by the summer of 2011 fans will accept that. Getting deep into the playoffs would be a major accomplishment after so much losing and fans would get into the spirit of it. You have to think that being a solid playoff team again would have people excited. Not every fan is as committed as we are or as bitter about the losing. They accept the prospect of a team that wins more than it loses and is exciting again.

the point is if u can't add 1 of the elite players, then you're better off building through the draft rather than starphuching for 2nd tier talent the way this team has been doing for the past decade... if u don't learn from the mistakes of the past then you're doomed to repeat them.

Joe Johnson is a ball hog...He needs the rock in his hands most of the game...U don't see Joe running around picks to get open for a shot...U see Joe grinding the clock, pounding the ball until he has to put up a shot...I don't want to watch that for the next five games much less the next five years...

Not only that, we'll have to read and hear about how Joe Johnson is freezing out Danillo "Tom Chambers" Gallinari.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Watching the all star game festivities...I was taken how unimpressed Kenny, Charles and Reggie was with Gallo...They thought he could be another Bargnani...Made me wonder if I or people in this forum had realistic expectations of the kid...I think he can be good, be was a little deflated listening to the commentaries...

I wonder what they said about Dirk after 79 games played? This kind of rush to judgement on young players is not really wise. The kid is actually doing just fine for a kid coming of back surgery and an off season where he couldn't work on his game or any real strength conditioning. He's been darned impressive when you factor that in. Many feared he wouldn't get thru the All Star break before he had to miss time. He's got a good future ahead of him IMO.

These guys are the pros and they know talent...They are often brutally honest...I'm just saying it's very easy to don rose colored glasses when rooting for the home town team....

If you were familiar with Nowitzki's talent level, you would not compare Gallinari to him. First time I saw Nowitzki play in the NBA, he took down a defensive rebound well above the rim, went coast to coast while eluding numerous defensive players with fancy dribbles, and then practically dunked it up to his armpit. Very few players could do what he did.

Would Joe Johnson even want come here. I don't remember how he got along with coach D'Antoni in Phoenix. I do remember that he was underutilized there.
Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right.

For all of this work to be a success we need to turn jeffries, Hughes, harrington, hill and possibly Nate and lee into Johnson, Amare and Possibly tyrus Thomas.
With a shot at melo in 2011.
I'd like to keep the core.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

if the JJ thing goes through you can bring in 2 guys and resign Lee.
A new core of pg Joe Johnson 6'6 sg Chandler 6'8 sf Gallo 6'10 pf Amare 6'10 C Lee 6'9 with a bench of Dorsey and Douglas is a pretty good start. Then you have Curry's expiring contract come trading deadline which hopefully nets another good player
