Just like for the Knicks cap space is worth more than short term success for the Rockets.

Yao is not opting out and leaving 17million on the table.

Grant Hill was signed coming off injury. Arenas was resigned coming off injury. I suspect Yao wants his new deal before the new CBA goes into effect.

^ there is zero chance yao ming opts out.

i'm not sure i would do this, but i would THINK about a package of:

jordan hill, wilson chandler, jared jefferies and mobley's expiring deal for TMAC.

that clears about $10.2M off the cap for us next year and the only real loss is chandler. and if we are getting lebron i don't think chandler has a role here. i like chandler a lot. and losing jefferies and chandler would decimate our defense, but doing that gives us $10.2M in cap room for next season. negotiate a buyout of eddy curry that saves $2M and we have $12M to more to work with in cap room.

we would be 100% tanking on the rest of this season if we did this - i have no faith in TMAC having anything left. the question is - is it worth giving up on chandler and jordan hill for $10M in cap room.

i don't think houston does this trade for curry, but for jefferies, who fits their defensive system and for chandler, who would be a terror on the wing with ariza and for the chance to see what jordan hill has? they might...

I don't know why Houston would even do this trade for Jeffries...I'm trying to be realistic but I don't see it right now.

And for the record, I REALLY hope I'm wrong!

Houston has been successful running without Yao. Factor in Yao being injury prone and you can see why he isn't crucial to their future success. If he opts in he is trade bait. Daryl Morey doesn't seem like the type of GM to give a center who has been repeatedly injured a long term max deal. I predict Bynum(bad knee) joins Houston this summer for Yao(bad feet).

Daryl Morey has little incentive to take back garbage when his team. without it's two stars, is sitting at the 7th spot.

Why wouldn't we do this? If it means freeing up enough money for two max players and possibly also resign David Lee, you have to do it right away...

Houston wants ALL STAR TALENT back. Not the contracts.

Better be willing to include Lee AND Gallo for McGrady.

good article on t-mac. sad to see his career get to this point where his contract is more valuable.

has morey even said what he's looking for at all?

Earl they can want that, but they aren't getting that for a player that's expiring at the end of this season and has been sent home from the club.

Realistically, they are going to get expiring contracts and a decent young player.

Exactly and Jefferies and Curry don't fit either criteria.

at this point, I don't see any team trading a decent player to Houston without also dumping something on them. TMac is caca and everyone knows it. Houston knows it and the 6 games he played for 8 minutes each quasi supports it.

Ask all they want, they ain't getting just expirings and a decent player back.

As I said, Houston's would rather send Mcgrady home and let him expire than take garbage players with 2010 salary.

more importantly....let's say the Knicks somehow land T-Mac without taking on additional salary.

Do the Knicks win more games with him this season? I say no matter how washed up he is ..i'd take even money to say T-Mac in our backcourt would be an upgrade over Duhon/Hughes/etc.

Name a starting guard duo in the NBA that's worse than ours.

Only team I can think of off the top of my head is maybe..Toronto because Calderon is injured.

I think Tmac still has some game, I would love to add him as long we didnt trade any of our young studs for him.

ESPN.com reported Saturday that the Washington Wizards had reached out to the Rockets in an exploratory manner about a possible Gilbert Arenas-for-McGrady swap, but Houston has no interest in such a deal. Arenas ranks as one of the league's most difficult players to move with four seasons left after this one on a mammoth $111 million contract and a history of knee problems to rival McGrady's.
