Anthony Randolph had a full rookie season and offseason over Gallinari in terms of being able to play, train, and develop. Randolph truthfully should be way farther along then Gallinari right now at this point.

Randolph's problem is the same one big flaw that had him fall down in the draft. Which is the maturity/confidence aspect. IF he ever overcomes that then sky is the limit for him.

Gallanari has been playing with grown men in europe with families since he was 16, that to me is a more experienced player.

Gallo IMO has a VERY good chance to reach the Dirk level. Let's please remember that he's not yet reached his Physical peak and it's holding him back in some areas. His BB IQ is very high and he's got the right mentality to be a stud. Even Dirk wasn't Dirk this early. Gallo is starting to figure out just how good he is. He's inserting himself into more of the action with each game.

Remember how tentative he was about driving early on? He wasn't as aggressive going to the hole and he's also getting better timing on blocked shots. You've gotta look for the signs.

No, I actually think it. I am not joking. First of all, in his rookie year, Bird turned 23 years old. He was also the focal point of that team the day he was drafted. Gallo is a support player at this time.

There was a reason that Bird was a focal point. It was not an accident.

Stats don't tell the story. Bird made routinely made plays that other players could not even conceive. He made passes and shots that nobody saw coming. He was clutch in all facets of the game.

GoNyGoNyGo wrote:Ok,so maybe I should have said the next Dirk Nowitzki...is that better? I have high hopes for Gallinari.

Comparing Gallinari to Nowitzki is still very high hopes -- and probably a little unfair to Gallinari. Dirk was a much better athlete as a young player, he's taller, handles the ball better, and has other advantages. I think Gallinari has more toughness on defense.

Bird is an all timer and Dirk is one of the greats of this era. I don't see that in Gallinari. My hope is that Gallinari will be a really good player, and if he busts out and becomes a star so much the better. Maybe Gallinari can be a Chris Mullin. Mullin was a true star, a dream teamer and was one of the best scorers of the late 80's/early 90's. I would be very satisfied if Gallinari can have a similar career.

Well, perhaps you are right. But I still think we cannot make that judgement yet. If NY gets Lebron, we will never know what Gallo can do as a #1 option as he will always be the #2. I jst think had his back not been bad, he might the focal point now.

It's not about comparing Dirk Nowitzki to Gallinari as rookies. For a player to develop into a Dirk Nowitzki-level star is simply very rare, which is MVP, perennial all-star and a hall of famer. There are a ton of players who were much better than Dirk Nowitzki as rookies who never even reached all-star status.

It is a very small chance that Gallinari becomes Dirk Nowitzki because either you are a Dirk Nowitzki or you are not.

Randolph - Maggette - George
for
Hill - Curry

How bad do you want it?
Gives us a few million more in 2010 cap space and a two guard that gets to the line.
Takes us out of contention for a 2011 major FA.

Duhon-TD-Nate
Chandler-Maggette-George
Gallo-Al-Bender
Jeffries-Al
Lee-Randolph

I mean, that's a nasty offensive team, and we're not losing any defense from the team that's playing decent now. You get two 2Guards back in the deal and you know we've needed them for a while. Weak spot would still be Duhon.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Gallinari & Nowitzki both made it to the NBA at roughly the same age. I'll include their 2nd year stats, both at age 21:

Dirk: 36mpg, 17.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.5apg, .8spg, .8bpg (82 games, 81 starts)
Gallo: 30mpg, 13.9ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.4apg, .9spg, .9bpg (27 games, 20 starts)

If we project Gallo's numbers to 36mpg:
Gallo: 36mpg, 16.9ppg, 5.8rpg, 1.8apg, 1.1spg, 1.1bpg

Not significantly different. I think there's a heck of a lot of season left. At this stage, a great game could really shift his averages quite a bit.

Note that in year 3, Dirk's numbers were 21.8ppg 9.2rpg, 2.1apg, 1.0spg, 1.2bpg, upped to 38mpg.

As Gallo matures physically and gets more removed from his rookie back injury, I think the Knicks will let him play in the paint a bit more and start running pick & rolls with Lee, upping his assists and rebound numbers... and perhaps allow 1-2 "opportunity points" just by virtue of being in the paint.

Of course, a lot of this is dependent on his cast of teammates. I wouldn't expect a big statistical leap if he's paired with Lebron - I'd expect his career to follow the path of Peja - since it'd be much more beneficial for the team if he was parked around the perimeter.

Anthony Randolph went home to play the hornets tonight and already he had 8 blks in just three qtrs.

Danphoney doesn't like defense oh well, I would make that swap quickly.

Teams like what the gall does and he automatically becomes a community fan favorite in GS like chris Mullin.

NY gets a guy that plays hard every game on offense and defense !

I say..... geter done !

is that from hahn or you? sounds like you.. superstar in the making? please... this guy shows nothing that shows heis a superstar in the making..

anyway, I am with the knicks... I say no to this deal... we have enough dummies on this team.. and Randolph is a dummy!

now, I would take him for a lesser package not involving gallo....mitigate the risk.... but can't give up much for a guy who is lacking upstairs...

Anthony Randolph when playing more than 30 minutes this year

23 points 7 rebounds 3 blocks 3 steals 0 assits
17 points 13 rebounds 2 blocks 3 steals 1 assit
9 points 6 rebounds 1 block 1 steal
28 points 13 rebounds 1 block 1 steal 5 assits
15 points 9 rebounds 1 block 1 steal 5 assits
12 points 8 rebounds 8 blocks 2 steals 2 assits
-----------------------------------------------------
17.2 points 9 rebounds 2.7 blocks 2 steals 2.1 assits avg

Selecting games where a player plays more then 30 minutes has a bias. Coaches play you more when you're playing well.

Randolph has a 42% shooting percentage overall and it's the same in his 30+ minute games. He's averaging just under 16 shots per game in those games to get 17.2 pts.

Gallo averages 17.4 pts in games where he plays 30 minutes or more and does it on 12.25 shots.

Both players have a lot of potential. If Randolph has had injury problems - they both have some injury risk. Randolph is a better defender and rebounder. Gallo is a better offensive player. The knock on AR is he's a head case I have no idea if that is justified or not. I think Gallo has a good head on his shoulders and as a fan I like rooting for him so I'd stick with Gallo.

OLDFAN, Nellie has been fooling with the kids minutes, on any other team especial the knicks with danphoney his numbers would be all-star like.

Please Read posts about the Randolph being in foul trouble. It's not just Nellie. He commits a lot of fouls.

the maturity/confidence aspect is a big issue... Maybe because he plays on a team that doesn't play defense. He helps out a lot and has to guard his own man.

What player on the knicks can guard and go at the other teams best player. Randolph in his second yr can guard pg, sg , sf and PF AND C in the league.

laugh @ the knicks trading the Italian Stallion for anything. Thats not going to happen. Gallo is Walsh and D'Antoni's baby, they ridin' or dying with him. Hill for Randolph makes the most sense.

Have you seen gallo get angry and show his temper just missing ft's ? Can you imagine when the games really count and things don't go his way and he gets fouled hard or something.

They both have skillset, but I see gallo as a 3 pt shooter who has a good IQ for the game. I see Randolph with superior skills on offense and defense and if he played for anybody other than nellie we would see him show it more consistently. Mid range game strong finish and can run the floor like a gazelle. If nellie keeps his word, watch what this kid does in the next 30 days.

If the Knicks trade Gallo, I am going to wait for the Nets in Brooklyn and say Bye Bye to the NYK forever. Gallo is going to be special. AR might become a star, but we already have one in Gallo. He's the Italian Bird.

No way in hell Walsh does this without buy-in from MDA. Gallo Stays. AR can go mess up some other team.

Gallo's already a star huh? 13ppg does it for you? You must have thought Crawford was a god.

We should see if taking on Maggette allows us to swap Hill for Randolph instead of Gallo.

THe Jazz just gave up Maynor just to dump salary, and Maggette's contract is a monster. Put Curry in that deal and we can actually come out better in terms of 2010 cap space.

What team has Randolph messed up the Warriors ? I don't believe danphoney would trade his son gallanari he would get too much hate mail, but the rest of the league might just see him as a specialist, while the majority of knicks fans see him as a polished all-around player.

You left out percentages. Nowitzki shot 46% that season and only shot 3.7 3 pointers per game compared to Gallinari's 6.8 3's per game. If you want to project numbers over the same amount of minutes (Which makes no sense because of the different systems) Gallinari ends up shooting an absurd 8 3's per game.

I don't know why everybody is trying to conjure Gallinari into a superstar. Why not let him just be a good player and if he becomes a star we can be extra-happy?

And then what happens is if Gallinari does not make it to these unfair lofty expectations, he gets torn down for not being a superstar, NYC crushes his confidence and then he leaves and becomes a good productive player elsewhere. This story happens over and over in this city.

The Maggette theoretical deal would change our situation from this:

Vets: Jeffries/Curry
Youth: Rooster/Mayor/TD/#32 2010
Space: $26 million

and make it this

Vets: Jeffries/Maggette
Youth: Randolph/Rooster/Mayor/TD/#32 2010
Space: $28 million

playa, there's a huge difference between getting mad at yourself for missing a free throw & sulking on the bench cuz things don't go your way... Gallo has never shown any penchant for that type of immaturity... i like the fact that Gallo gets angry at himself when he fails... it shows he cares.

i don't think GS agrees to that w/o Gallo in the deal... what if we threw Wilson Chandler into the deal (he'd be a perfect replacement for Maggette in their rotation) & expanded it to dump Fishlips too:

http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5341032

Curry, Fishlips, Hill, Chandler & both 2nd round picks

for

Maggette, Raja Bell, Speedy Claxton, Randolph & George

C - Lee / Bender / Darko
PF - Harrington / Gallinari
SF - Randolph / George / Landry
SG - Maggette / Bell / TD / Nate
PG - Duhon / Hughes / Claxton

that deal nets us enough cap space in 2010 to sign 2 max guys & re-sign D Lee to a backloaded extension that starts out at ~$9 mil (average of ~$11-12 mil per)

u could feasibly end up w/this in 2010:

C - Lee / Bender (veteran's minimum)
PF - Bosh / Gallo
SF - Lebron / Randolph
SG - Maggette
PG - TD

fill out the rest with minimum contract signings
