If Roy goes down, they are going to need some roster adjustments. This may be a perfect opportunity to target Rudy or Bayless (although I'd prefer Rudy)

Rudy is always hurt but he would fill our need for a SG and he is still on a rookie contract. I would offer Nate, Darko, a second round pick, and $3 mill for Rudy.

terrible trade for ny

Maybe we should offer that package for Ridnour instead?

ridnour is better than fernandez

In what league?

If we are to trade Lee the best match is to trade with the Kings.

Spencer Hawes is the perfect center for MDA's system. He can provide space by knocking down outside shots and shot block. Plus with Lee's value right now we could probably dump Jeffries contract.

Lee and Jeffries for Hawes, K.Thomas, Sergio is a good deal for both teams IMO. We get 2 young prospects and dump 6.8mil off the 2010 cap providing us the cap space to go after 2 max free agents as well as have 6 young vets to pair them up with. Plus Hawes and Hill combo has way more balance to what MDA wants to do. Both Harrington and Hawes outside games compliment Hill's inside game. Hill can become the primary pick and roll option. Hawes, Hill, Gallo, Chandler would also provide 4 cappable shot blockers in the frontcourt aswell.

Lee is our best trade asset at this point and sacrificing him could really put us in a very strong position for 2010.

Portland had Juwan Howard...he got a double double for them...I forgot the dude was on their team. They shoulda been playing that guy. Hope their franchise falls hard...I can't stand how they run that franchise...

They refuse to start Travis Outlaw...they didn't give andre miller the starting spot outright...they benched Rudy Fernandez for no reason...they have a vet that can still play in Juwan Howard and don't use him....they have Super talented Bayless sitting on the bench even after he drops 29 to save the day for them.

On top of that they refuse to try to improve the team in the off season. Terribly run franchise

how does Roy going down make it a perfect opportunity to target 1 of their G's?

Its not too terribly complicated. They need help at C with Joel and Oden going down with major injuries. Add to that an injury to their best player and perhaps they will be more likely to make a move to salvage their season. They have an abundance of guards and back court players which we are interested in. We have players like Hill, Darko, Jeffries or Robinson (we would be so lucky) and Harrington, who may help fill a need or two of theirs. In exchange we could ask for a guard back, which is an area of need for us.

Not quite sure that it would be a "perfect" opportunity, as I stated before, but an opportunity nonetheless

Hill for Bayless and a pick.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Hawes is in his rookie scale contract but he is also a question mark at this point. If he was putting up 15-10 like Thompson then I would agree with you. Lee would cost more but he is a proven producer. Hawes was a lottery pick and is in his 3rd yr. His numbers this yr don't back up those facts though. If it was Lee for Hawes straight up it would be a no brainer for Kings. The only reason why they would have to think about the deal I proposed is if they would want to take on Jeffries contract rather then wait on Hawes and hope for the best. Even though we would be taking Thomas 8.5mil off there hands even though he doesn't play at all.

You put Lee next to Thompson you are getting 30-20-5 from your front court. I also think Kings are more into trying to win mode then trying to save money mode.

Hill for Bayless and a pick.

i'm not convinced Bayless would be the type of player MDA wants for his system... he's not much of an orchestrator, pretty much another undersized SG, no? i think Hill fills more of our needs than Bayless does.

I know Briggs wants to trade Hill for Bayless but at one point Briggs did make a very good point and that's.. you never trade big for small. There are certain circumstances where that saying gets thrown out the window but this is NOT one of them. And I didn't even want Hill.

I dont think that Bayless is tne answer to our PG problem. I only meant to suggest that with Portland hurting, we may be able to send something to them in exchange for a piece or two. Unfortunately, the numbers are difficult to work out because they have a limited number of contracts which are attractive to us and Nate's deal is complicated because of the BYC nonsense.

Think they would have any interest in Darko playing in a mainly defensive center role?

i've already tried to work out some Darko packages in my head... there doesn't seem to be any good matches there either... Darko's making $7.5 mil, so the only salaries that would match are Blake & Outlaw, & i don't see them giving up those 2 guys for Darko to be honest... at least Blake is giving them something off the bench, Darko's not even playing for us & nothing says he will be any time soon.

Extremely difficult to even find a deal that works against all of the cap and base year comp issues.

The only one I could make work was....

Lee & Jefferies for Blake, Howard and Outlaw (all expiring); plus Batum and Rudy (who = $2.2M combined in 2010).

This Trade is Successful

Being Traded To Portland
David Lee $7,000,000
J. Jeffries$6,466,600

Being Traded To New York Knicks

N. Batum$1,118,760
Steve Blake$4,000,000
R. Fernandez$1,165,320
Juwan Howard$825,497
T. Outlaw $3,600,000
