Tommy Dee wrote that Walsh loves AR and was stronly considering taking him at 6 last year. He thinks the Knicks are going to look HARD at him

I saw somewhere that golden state once viewed randolph as a potential center in the future. Not sure if that still applies now but the important thing he he would be a capable defender and shot blocker in this system that can play along the perimeter too. If you resign lee long term, you clearly need a defensive big. If you want a line-up that fits a team more, you go out and get Randolpoh or tyrus thomas or josh smith to play alongside lee. You still don't have a true center but you add a big time shot blocker and active defender to the mix that will help hide lee's defensive shortcomings, or for arguments sake, is a good fit next to bosh or amare as well.

If we offered Hill, I would think we could get AR, but I am not convinced AR is a better player than Hill in the longterm. Admittedly, AR has shown more, but Hill really has not had a chance to play. I would hate to trade Hill just to find out 2 years from now that we gave away a McDyess-type player.

so how many 1st round picks does that make Eddy Curry costing us again? i lost count at this point.

Doesn't matter if he nets us Lebron and another superstar, because those picks will suck anyway once we're #1 in the world.

& how do we afford all those other players on BRIGGS' roster with the cap space we'd have left over?

C-D Lee ~$9m
F C Bosh ~$17m
F D Gallinari ~$3m
G Lebron James ~$17m
G Chris Duhon ~$3m
F 6th man Al Harrington ~$7m
F/G Wilson Chandler ~$2m
G Toney Douglas ~$1m

my calculator says that adds up to $59 million... the salary cap for next season is projected at somewhere between $50-54 million according to a memo that was sent out in July

we still would need to shave another ~$6-9 million off that roster's salary to financially make it happen to begin with after you sign at least 2 other guys at minimum deals, which pretty much means u can't realistically keep both Lee & Harrington & still expect to be able to afford 2 max FA's even if you can somehow dump both Curry & Fishlips' contracts.

The Knicks can make it work through backloading contracts. Perhaps all 4 players may take just a tad less as well to get it done. Also from what I have read--revenues are not far off from last year and the cap is set this year at nearly 58mm--lets say it reduces another 5% leaving it @ roughly 55/56 if we got rid of Jordan Hill Jefferies and Curry we would have roughly 48/49mm to spend.

If you have Lebron and Bosh, why would you want Harrington? There is only one basketball and Gallo and Chandler need shots too.

Harrington is the perfect bench player. He can come in and play the 2,3,4 or 5 for any stretch. He can defend some, score inside, hit the 3, handle the ball some... he's not great at any of those but good at all of them. He wants to be here also. I like it

For Harrington it will come down to two things:

1.) First he has to obviously survive through the various trade deadlines
2.) He's going to have to take a pay cut.

I personally think he's great off the bench.

why? He loves Walsh and there is no reason we couldnt just sign him as a FA. I think if Walsh traded him he wouldnt be bitter. Players want to be wanted. "Al... we want you back. This is the money we can give, this is what we are trying to build." Pretty sure Al would give serious thought to that call from DW. Wouldnt you?

I have no doubt Al wants to be here. I have no doubt this is his first choice. I have no doubt that Donnie likes him enough to keep him here. I think finances MAY cause us to offer him less then what he can command elsewhere. That's the reality he may be faced with.

sure.. like a lot of players Al is going to have to decide on money vs. playing for a good BB team. Would he take $5mm a year to play for the team he grew up loving thats competing for a title or try to get $9mm with the Pistons or Clippers or wherever else... its a tough call.
