Harrington has changed his game this year. When MDA talks about developing the young guys, I think Harrington, Lee, Jeffries and even Duhon are in that group. I would expect that A coach likes to see growth in his players every year and will help develop them to reach their potential.
Al is definitely showing that he is getting it. While he still turns the ball over while attacking, you have to applaud his aggressive play. His 3 pt attempts are down and he's been unstoppable attacking the basket with reckless abandon. Now, his asst. numbers are going up and he's rebounding. He's starting to fill up the stat sheet as is Hughes.
There's been good energy and best of all, they look like they are starting to play as a team and figuring out how to sustain a lead and get some wins. To me, the most attractive thing to a FA in the 2010 class would have to be how the Knicks are starting to come together as a team ...which is greater than the sum of it's parts. It's been looking like the key to success lately has been the 'unselfish' play from everyone. As soon as an opposing team starts keying in on a certain player who's hot...someone else steps up AND everyone gets them the ball.
Did anyone notice yesterday (I think it was the 3rd qtr) when the team was down, Lee huddled everyone up on the floor (and I mean all 5). They clamped down on defense and too the lead back and held it after that. I haven't seen this team do that ever before. I have to say I like what I'm seeing and I expect the ball movement and commitment to defense to continue and improve. I think you have to also give MDA alot of credit for giving everyone (ok, most everyone) an extended chance, and then shortening the rotation. I didn't get it at first, but looks like coach pringles is pushing the right buttons and it's translating into some wins
While ultimately a coach will be measured in the number of wins, you need to also look at the growth of his players under his watch. Let's just hope that Duhon continues to show up. It's been his M.O. to have a good game and then disappear. Lets just hope we can start to see some consistency which to me is the sign of a good team. Maybe the culture is finally changing in Knick land.
