Where are you getting that guy? Who is that player?

fish there's no doubt about that, but what about eddy's career leads you to believe that he's going to actually be on the floor and able to do that 3 months from now, let alone next year?

The Answer Man With The Behind The Back Assist

Q. nyk4ever - but what about eddy's career leads you to believe that he's going to actually be on the floor and able to do that 3 months from now, let alone next year?

A. Same thing that makes me believe that Danilo Gallinari's sore back in Indiana is just a temporary thing and not a permanent condition that will end his career prematurely.

You gotta believe

of course Earl and I agree with that, but let's be honest. the sample size of eddy not being on the court, is alot larger than danilo's back issue.

nyk4ever - why the impatience with Slim Fast Eddy?

Why such a rush to consummate the next Walt Bellamy for Dave DeBusschere trade that transforms the Knicks instant contenders? There is no transaction that will fix this thing. It is a series of well-conceived moves.

Forget the free agents. Two stars will still require three competent starters and another 3-4 guys you can trust to sprint off the bench on those inevitable nights when the first line is sluggish.

You need 2-3 legit centers. Eddy Curry is the only center on the roster. That's it. Period. Darko does not count. But I hope he gets some PT soon.

Do I want Eddy over Amare or Bosh?

And while Amare and Bosh are both probably better all around players, I'd rather have Curry at $11MM for just one more year than to sign 2 max players, especially when one is Amare or Bosh.

I think both are overrated and not worth the $15MM per and 5 years that they will take up.

Signing 2 max FA in 2010 shoots our load and commits us, for better or for worse, to those two players, with not much room to add a supporting cast.

Keep Eddy, and if we add a player in 2010, then see how the team develops.

There is no instant win with a random group of stars brought together. Think of the year Malone and Payton tried to buy their way to a championship. No one thought they would lose, but they did.

And then when Curry's deal is over, we might be positioned for Dwight or someone else.

Insta-builds tend not to work. At least the ones I've seen here in NYC have left me jaded.

Question.....If you are not signing Bosh (who I would definitley sign) or Amare and Lebron and Wade decide to stay with their respective teams, who are you holding the money for?

+/- numbers are useless some times. If your team sucks your +/- will suck. You need a lot of data there to paint any kind of picture about what happens when a player is on or off the floor.

nyk4ever - I appreciate your perspective and honesty. I would offer that Eddy's 505 game career averaging 13.5 and 5.3 rebounds ( along with sample 06-07 season of a quality 19.5 and 7) hold more validity than the sample of total playing time that Gallo has donated in the NBA with only 39 games and a 8.4 average. The back stiffness signal is not a good thing. If there is any cause for concern it would be that Gallo can play just one full season without the heating pad on the sideline.

I am in no rush to get rid of Slim Fast Eddy. None whatsoever. On the contrary, I am looking forward to see him gain more confidence with his new agility and quicker feetwork.

who cares what I think? Its what other GMs think. Look at the NBA and pro sports period. Anytime a player has a skill set that is a commodity some team is always willing to take a shot on that player. Eddy has one of the most valueable skill sets in the league. A scorer in the paint with size. Make me a list of guys that score in this league at 55% and are 6'10 or bigger. That is a rare commodity. Many GMs and coaches will look at that and figure a way to use it.

The thing that changes this over the past is the shape he's in. He's not lumbering up and down the court. He's obviously done a huge amount of work to get to where is now. What else can he do to show he's serious about BB? I would say right now he's done everything he can.

The -16 isn't his +/-, it's his adjusted +/-. This statistic is mathematically adjusted to take account of the quality of your teammates and opponents. This is the closest thing we have to an objective measure of a player's contribution.

Yeah, and a nice sample size too!

I'm not talking about +/-. I agree that that's a useless stat.

Here's Eddy's adjusted +/- for the last season he played:

Here's an explanation of the difference between the two stats:

this 2010 thing has all of you acting crazy.

its totally pointless. GMs scout NBA players and look at NBA game tape. When the Rockets or any other GM is looking at Eddy play in the upcoming weeks do you think for one second his +/- #s are going to factor in their decision to trade or not trade for him? Cmon dude. Thats just fodder for guys like us to shoot around and would be braniacs from ESPN to put out there.

Dumbest stat ever: Hollinger's brilliant calculation of a players effeciency or (PER).

After crunching numbers I have learned that Lebron, Kobe, Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Dwane Wade and Steve Nash are the bext players in the league. Wow... brilliant. Good thing we have those stats to tell us that

He will be 27 next month. That is the other option isnt it? Dude has been through some crazy stuff last two years. The Knicks know him better than anyone, and Walsh has worked with guys like that before. If they think he's committed or maturing than that is an option. No Knick fan here can offer an unbiased assesment of that. To much negative emotion around him left over from the Isiah era

Even if he plays well, we should move him if a good deal comes to our door. Why? Because it advances our rebuilding effort by a year. Letting history guide us (partly) we can easily imagine Eddie slipping again. He has not made smart decisions in the past (regarding weight, life, etc.) and just because he lost 50 lbs on a crazy diet/exercise regimen doesn't mean he has reformed his character. Plus he has that enlarged heart thing.

Could he be solid for us? Sure. But we aren't going to give him the type of contract extension he would demand, and we aren't about to sign him as a FA after this deal expires. So we may as well get value for him now. The deal with Houston looks like it could be good for both teams, so if the Rockets are amenable, we should jump at it, even though it would hurt us this year.

But we don't just trade him for expirings, he has too much value for that. We need a bit of value back, like a 1st rounder or a solid role player we would keep.

The Knicks have to trade Curry for T-Mac. All Houston needs right now is a consistent low post player.

Curry and Chandler for T-Mac and a 1st rounder. Get er' done!

my bad fish.. didn't realize you were talking from a GM's perspective. In that case I totally agree with you. There are GMs every year that take risks on players and a guy like Curry is usually a risk worth taking if he's in shape and playing well when you attain him.

I'm hoping...

don't worry dj, we won't be trading Curry... that would involve Donnie Walsh actually doing something.
