I thought you knew that I was talking about today, as I mentioned.

Either way though, If Bosh and Melo can't help us today, what makes you think they'd be helping in 2 years ?

what is the point in talking about them today? i'm talking about a hypothetical scenario we may end up with if we should lose out on Lebron & Wade... i don't think ending up with Bosh this offseason & Melo next offseason would be a failure at all on Donnie Walsh's part... those 2 guys are elite players at their respective positions and just coming into their primes... why would anyone object to that, i don't get it.

Sure, it makes the Knicks fun to watch again. It doesn't make them a contender imo, as long as Kobe, Gasol, Lebron, KG, etc are doing their thing.

i'd be happy w/any combination of the following players in 2010 & 2011 if we miss out on Lebron, Kobe & Wade

Amare Stoudamire
Chris Bosh
Carmelo Anthony
Tony Parker
Dirk Nowitzki
Brandon Roy
Kevin Durant
Caron Butler

no one can tell u that for sure... that's why u play the games... did u know for certain that DET would win a championship w/their roster before they did? did u know for sure that BOS would win one too? i mean could u guarantee it to yourself looking at their roster on paper before u saw them play & how well they gelled together that year? all u can do is put together the best talent u can get ur hands on & then let the coaches take over & hopefully the team gels & forms a good chemistry.

Of course I can't tell what the future holds, that's why I hypothetically said If we had Bosh and Melo today, how would be our chances be. I didn't say we'd be a dismal team, but I did say we still wouldn't be a championship caliber team. Having those guys on the Knick puts us in that second tier with Cleveland and Denver, not the first with LA. And yes, Detroit beat the odds when they beat LA a few years ago, but more often than not you won't see that happen too often.

I would sign Bosh for max money. Not because I think he's going to win me a title, but because thats his value. Jrsy he's not as good as the guys you mention but he is a star in this league and its an asset worth having.

I try for Lebron or Wade first (obviously) but I would take Bosh.

Having a guy thats 25-28 that gives you 25/10/2 50% and goes to the all star game every year is a great asset to have.

This doesn't fit the bill in creating a contender.

but we'd have some really nice pieces in place to build around, and Bosh and Carmelo are young enough that we'd have many years to do it in. It's not like we'd have only a 2 or 3 year window.

I agree with all of you guys that are saying we'd be a good team, there's no doubt about that.

Do you think if you have about eight seasons of Bosh and Carmelo in their primes, that's not enough time to build a championship level team around them?

I can't answer that question simply because I don't know what the NBA holds for the next 8 seasons. That is why I hypothetically asked if we would win a championship if we had those 2 guys on our roster as of right now. And in my very own opinion, we wouldn't be good enough to be the best team in the league. Now of course there are so many other factors and variables to this, such as coaching, role players, etc. Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony are very talented players, but once again in my opinion they represent that second tier compared to Kobe, Lebron, KG, Duncan, and Howard.

If we can get LeBron (or Wade or Chris Paul), obviously that's our first priority. Those are the best young players in the league. But if it looks like it isn't going to happen or is very unlikely, I don't want management to throw up their hands if frustration and do nothing because Bosh isn't the holy grail. He plays hard and smart. He's one of the better players in the league. And he has some leadership ability.

You know what would really make this organization implode? Signing Bosh to a MaxFA deal, and then winning 30 games the next season.

Think that's impossible? Look at Toronto's record lately with better surrounding parts.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Bingo. Now lets say the Raptors sign Carmelo Anthony tomorrow. All of a sudden they're a championship caliber team that can beat LA, BOS, SA, and ORL ?
