If they were best friends before they will find a way to make peace. They both were great players. The only problem was that Zeke was bad for the Knicks. I wonder if Zeke is still getting paid by the knicks.

This sounds like some soap opra sht....Most of you are going to have a bias opinion about thomas anyway. Im not really sure who's telling the truth, I just know one guy is trying sell a book...

And guys like you are still gonna hold on to the Isiah love. So I guess the bias goes both ways, huh?

In the end, Magic is a guy trying to sell a book and Isiah is a guy who is hated by a good majority of his peers and is considered a snake, weasel, con artist and jackass. I don't know if what is written about Isiah is true or not but his reputation already precedes him.

People who knows Magic say that his sex life was pretty strange. I do not know how he caught the virus but I bet he still have the woman running after him.

i agree w/u... i hate Isiah as much as the next guy but that dislike begins & ends with what he did w/our franchise... i could care less what kind of person he is outside of that... some people carry that hate beyond the level of basketball when they don't even know this guy or have never even met him... this man has not murdered anyone, he has not raped anyone, he has not committed any kind of heinous violent crime against anyone to our knowledge... he completely mismanaged our franchise & for that he deserves our disdain, but some of y'all take it to another level.

it's always easy to pile on & kick a guy when he's down, but u have to remember there are always 2 sides to every story & no matter how much past baggage Isiah carries around w/him in his public persona, it doesn't mean every bit of slander that's put out there against this man is true until u take the time to investigate & consider all the factors at play.

i don't think everyone here, with negative opinion of isiah, is carrying hate for him. based on what he did here, he no longer gets the benefit of the doubt from some. it doesn't necessarily need to be labeled as "hate."

i didn't say everyone, i said some... & i do think some guys around here literally hate this man & not just for what he did for the Knicks' franchise... i'll just leave it at that cuz i'm not trying to single out anyone... just making a general point.

sure, but let's not diminish the fact that there are many instances in dude's career that could lead someone to rationally deny him the benefit of the doubt without actually "hating" the guy. at some point dude lost his cred to the degree where one could say, "that's just him -- he's a douchebag" and that would just be considered a solid assessment of the dude's track record and not some irrational, emotional reaction.

A lot of cats around here are very kneejerk when it comes to Zeke. In addition, the accusation leveled by Magic flies in the face of information that we know to be true (Zeke was publicly supportive of Magic) and it just comes across as a false thing to do --- ripping your former best friend in a book over innuendo.

Just because you dont like somebody doesn't mean you should loose all sense of objectivity.

true seb. i think magic is not helping his own image by throwing his former friend under the bus. but that doesn't somehow turn isiah into a shining example of how to be a cool dude. this is one of those cases where both lose.

like i said i'm not saying Magic's lying either, just wouldn't jump to any conclusions either way based on accusations that are coming out in some book without knowing all the facts... there's always 2 sides to every story & there's also 2 sides to every human being... no one is beyond doubt in this world, especially when it comes to making a fast buck... Magic has a clear motivation here to sell his book w/this type of stuff... what did Isiah have to gain at the time when these accusations were alleged to have happened by selling out his friend and spreading rumors about his sexuality to fellow NBA players? who knows if he did or didn't do it, but i don't see any motivating factor there unless there was some kinda deep seated jealousy & resentment that Isiah had for Magic, & none of us has a clue whether there was or not.

Zeke strongly supported Magic in a very public fashion after his HIV announcement at a time when many NBA players turned their backs on him. Thats fact. But I guess we are supposed to believe that Zeke backbiting him from the shadows overrides that. Question, tho, were Jordan and co. as vocal in their support of Magic as Isiah was?

Magic is a politician, and Zeke is as much of a lightening rod as anybody is in professional sports. This book just reeks of politics to me. Just tryin to sell books and further his standing with the NBA mainstream.

That is how I see it. Magic is writing stuff in his book about what IT supposedly said to his agent in private, when IT was the most vocal proponent for Magic playing in that all-star game. I would have flown out to LA and b**tch slapped Magic for that one. Talk about hitting a man when his down. Magic is worth like $600 million dollars, was it that important to him to sell IT out just to sell a few more copies of his book.

I think every slap Isiah gets is one deserved.

Isiah is like a 9 live cat. Dude is the epicenter of a 11 million dollar sexual harrassment suit which they lose in a slam dunk and he still kept his job and got paid!

Phuch Magic and his book which I won't read, but Isiah gets no sympathy at all. Even his pill popping episode putting it on his daughter was low. Even if was as he said, that it was an accidental overdose (Which I kind of believe), just say it instead of making you daughter look stupid. In fact, of all the things Isiah has done I think that might be the most dispicable of all. That shows the real character of the man.

Isiah thinks he has friends and he don't.

Isiah's son blasts Magic Johnson

http://www.realgm.com/src_feature_pieces/826/20091023/an_inside_take_on_magic/isiah/

I was born on June 15th 1988, on the only day during that years NBA Finals that both my father, Isiah Thomas, and my dad's best friend, Magic Johnson (who was supposed to become my Godfather) would be able to see me born.

My father was there and Magic was not.

That, however, didn’t create lasting spite on my part towards Magic. My father would speak highly of Magic and there were always pictures of the two around the house; my favorite being at my father's wedding with Magic and Mark Aguirre all smiles, all brothers from different mothers.

Anytime Magic was in town, he and my parents would go out to eat and new pictures of the two together would outline my father's computer screen-saver.

It became apparent that the two were drifting apart to some extent, but the reasoning for that remained a mystery to me.

That is the background to the situation and its relevance to me personally. I am a huge sports fan, and have lived on that side of professional athletics, as well as on the side of the family member of a well-known basketball player. Therefore, I believe my perspective of the following issue is well-rounded.

Often times as sports fans, we fail to hold athletes to the same standards to which the rest of society is asked to adhere. At times we place an unfair stranglehold upon athletes because of the duty we feel they owe to us as fans. Still, at other times, it means we cut athletes slack for manipulating our love for sport by literally buying into their gossip.

The article written by Ian Thomsen regarding the sudden appearance of a Magic Johnson-Isiah Thomas feud ought to attract the interest of any NBA fan. Consider the nature of the feud, though, and it ought to make any human being with actual moral standards cringe.

Magic Johnson has sold out. Yes, the same Magic Johnson that has positioned himself as a model citizen and role model throughout much of his life in the spotlight (he has practically turned his disease into a positive feature of his being). Magic has apparently come to the conclusion that profits from another “athlete authored,” consumer-driven book outweigh the benefits of lasting friendships.

It has been no secret for roughly 25 years that Magic and Isiah shared a close bond. I personally can attest to the fact that Isiah has never been shy about their relationship. Magic has spent time around my family through good and most certainly the bad times as well. Magic has made public that he personally recommended Isiah for one of the biggest jobs American sports have to offer, the presidency of the New York Knicks , which would turn out to be a statement of complete fiction as it was disputed by Knicks Chairman James Dolan.

Magic finally decided to own up and take the blame for black balling Isiah from the original Dream Team in 1992, a team that indisputably Isiah was an equal on the basketball court to Magic, Bird, or even possibly Jordan.

Magic even alludes to the freeze out of Jordan at the All-Star Game in his book, while Jordan, at his Hall of Fame, induction ceremony finally put to bed those accusations of Isiah saying, "I don't know about any freeze out, I was just happy to be there."

If you consider all of this information, has Isiah been treated unfairly and almost deemed the NBA's punching bag? You bet. That is in fact all anybody needs to know of the situation to consider the revelations made by Thomsen on si.com.

Set aside any positive or negative feelings you have towards either man, and only consider only the basic fact that a close, intimate friendship did indeed exist at one time.

Now, do your best to bring superstar athletes down to the level of the normal person (challenging, I know). Why, by any accepted moral standards, would a friend (Magic) wait so long, after so many public and surely private experiences of companionship along side the other friend (Isiah) to reveal a plethora of qualms, in a book no less?

Three reasons, well actually two main reasons, supported by another inevitably tagging along: a star athlete’s thirst for the spotlight, an opportunity that presents easy money and finally, cowardice.

Yes, Magic Johnson, when being judged by the normal standards of friendship held by society has shown through his upcoming book that such a venture is an explicit delay of greed and cowardliness.

Magic, you have a problem with Isiah? Are you worried your boy was questioning your sexuality? Interesting considering you chose to maintain a personal relationship (I will avoid the word friendship, sort of) with Isiah, but nonetheless, problems are problems and you obviously feel compelled to express them. Fine, nobody can argue with that; deal with the situation… as a man.

As Isiah alludes to numerous times in Thomsen’s article, he simply wishes Magic could have approached him with the problems. That is, after all, what we all hope for in a friend. If a problem exists, confront it personally, not in a roundabout manner. In our daily lives the latter approach typically means talking about the friend with which you have a problem behind his or her back. Therein lies the distinction. Magic, knowing his stature as a famous athlete and well-respected, stand-up citizen, has attempted to manipulate the problems he has with a former friend through profit. If you can’t tell by now I am disgusted by this ploy, but even I understand the numbers a book authored by Larry Bird and Magic Johnson will turn in. I am in fact not against the purchase of the book – it will probably make for an interesting read. Instead, I argue that the book, in light of the developments discussed, should be utilized to judge Magic for the cowardly route he has taken in dealing with conflict.

I suggest the following: hold star athletes, through their performances on the court, off it and in their business ventures, as this book certainly is, to the same standards you would hold any other individual. They are not exempt from the moral standards employed by society simply because the public is naturally intrigued by their stores. Magic Johnson was formerly a very personal role model of mine for reasons that should now be obvious, but no more. Not after a stunt like this.

I don't trust either one. Isiah had to have done something to be the catylyst in this whole situation. No friend would have done something like this, unless they are downright stupid, or if they are out for revenge, and I wouldn't put either past Magic.

Therefore, what this seems to be is just one blast, that happens to be public, in a war between Magic and Isiah.

Neither, to me, is worthy of trust, so I don't believe either one. They are both slime.

A Look Back at Isiah and Magic
By Harvey Araton
In his latest incarnation as the N.B.A.’s forever victim, Isiah Thomas says he is pained and furious by passages in Magic Johnson’s new book — a collaboration with Larry Bird and the journalist Jackie MacMullan — that accuse Thomas of spreading rumors about Johnson’s sexuality in the early 1990s after he tested positive for H.I.V., the virus that causes AIDS.

As usual, Thomas gave a great performance, eloquent and impassioned, to refute Johnson’s charge, which briefly surfaced in the months after Johnson’s initial retirement from the game in 1991. In the pre-Internet age, without anyone on record, the story never gained traction.

Thomas told Sports Illustrated’s Web site that he never questioned Johnson’s agent, Lon Rosen, or anyone else about Johnson’s sexuality. He was indignant over being characterized as insensitive, or even homophobic.

“I think Magic has been misled on a lot of things, and unfortunately this has been another one of them,” he said.

Whether Thomas spread rumors about Johnson, I can’t say. But in at least one conversation back then — with me — he was suggestive enough in his own cunning, roundabout way.

As the N.B.A. reporter for The Times, I was on assignment in Auburn Hills, Mich., when I stopped by Thomas’s dressing stall in the Pistons’ locker room. In those days, he considered me something of a news-media ally after I had assailed USA Basketball and those who had conspired to keep Thomas off the Dream Team. I still consider the exclusion to be one of the sport’s all-time slights.

I couldn’t resist asking Thomas about the Johnson sexuality story that was circulating, and his rumored role in it.

“That’s the thing that doesn’t make any sense,” Thomas told me. “Why would he want to accuse and alienate me when I’m the guy who hung out with him, stayed in his house and can stand up and vouch for him?”

Thomas being Thomas, he couldn’t let it go at that. He looked at me with that hand-in-the-cookie-jar smile and added: “And you know what? I would have lied for him.”

Startled, I said something to the effect of: What? But that was it. That was all he was going to say. I walked away shaking my head, not knowing what to make of that last quote. However tantalizing, I decided the answer had to be nothing.

Over the years, and before reading the new Johnson-Bird book, I came to the conclusion that it was just Thomas’s way of punishing Johnson for excommunicating him from his inner circle. As Johnson says in the book, the downfall of the relationship began in the 1989 finals, when Johnson decked Thomas to send a message to Lakers teammates not to worry about the pregame cheek bussing that was going on between the two.

The hurt was exacerbated with Thomas’s exclusion from the Dream Team and Johnson’s refusal to lobby in his behalf. I have always sympathized with Thomas, in my opinion the best little man in league history, for being denied his rightful place on what symbolically was the most prestigious pro basketball team ever.

But his protests notwithstanding, he is not believable on the Magic sexuality story. At least not from my experience.
