I think anyone who isn't worried about Gallo and the ability of Walsh to draft difference makers is really in denial.

You have to ask yourself will Gallo every be the player that we drafted, how injury prone will he be, and when are we going to see something that leads you to believe that he isn't just a Dennis Scott, Jason Kapono, etc.

I like Hedo, but if we are hoping this guy turns into Hedo he doesn't really have a high ceiling. When you have three possible All-Stars drafted right behind him it's time to hold Walsh accountable.

It is still early and he has plenty of time to turn it around, but he looks like a scrub right now. Anyone who says otherwise just isn't watching the games.
good basketball people dont micro analyze their prospects minute by minute like people on this board do. Gallo has a skill set. How he's able to translate into winning games will take time and coaching to realize.

I like this post, but I do not like this Bippity01 thing. Please have this poster change his name, it is not funny. I know funny, and this is not funny

Hey atleast your post-count is there...

bingo.. nor do they look at picks after their own and second guess their choices just because some players are having some level success early.

you guys are going a little overboard here. upset gallo hasn't dominated in his first pre-season games?

I am not upset at all. I don't expect to see him dominate anything in the near future. Other than getting hot from the outside, I can't really tell you what I've seen from the guy that makes me think he can be a franchise player.

Like I said earlier, I don't like where he was drafted. The Knicks needed someone who could come in and contribute immediately or sooner than later and at a high level. When I think of the 6th overall draft pick, I am not thinking of a project. I am thinking about a guy who can come in and compete. A player who is confident in his own abilities and won't hesitate to show the skills he possess. I have not seen that from Gallo just yet. All most fans are waiting for is a flash from him that says 6TH PICK FIRST ROUND! JJ Reddick comes to mind when I think of a pure shooter who's game didn't translate to NBA success and he is the all time ACC Tournament scorer!! Go figure huh?

Like I said, if we drafted him later it wouldn't be so bad but we picked him 6th overall! Regardless of who it is, I would like to see more from a 6th pick in the first round.

good coaches and organizations always focus on themselves, not what other teams are doing. Knicks dont care how the rest of the 08 draft class is doing. They are focused on improving their own players. Knicks played better when Gallo was on the floor last year simply because you had to respect his outside shooting and that opened things up on offense

It's interesting how everyone gets so upset when you are just responding to what you are seeing on the floor. We have been rebuilding for how long time now and if you see anyone that screams building block, please name them. David Lee, next. We aren't a playoff team so you look for positives out on the floor.

If you are seeing any, please list them.

Gallo made an impact in the games he played last year. That I can agree with. But, for some reason we have to be patient and wait on players instead of drafting impact guys that can help move this franchise in the right direction. This is one of the more critical years in the history of this franchise. We have one shot to become a relevant franchise, and it's a long shot. If we don't get Lebron we miss the playoffs again next season. We don't have a lottery selection this year so we have very little chance of improving at years end. You can scream all you want about cap room, but Chris Bosh has enough trouble getting the Raptors into the playoffs and right now that is the only free agent that we have a realistic chance of getting. And he plays the same position as Gallo, Hill, and Lee.

Gallo so far has been a floater on the three point line has been very limited athletically and is struggling with his confidence. He made an aggressive play and tried to dunk the ball yesterday. Outside of that he has looked effective 1-2 other times putting the ball on the floor.

As someone who understands the game and what it takes to be effective you have to be concerned. If you aren't it's a problem. And if you think someone is going to leave a playoff team to come to NY when they can get the same amount of cash and less pressure you are mistaken.

You win two MVPs in three years and the entire city hates you. Why on earth would anyone want to deal with that on a daily basis.

The bar is set so ****ing low here it's disgusting. I am seeing guys flourishing picked after our draft picks and I am not allowed to bring it up. We don't have a guy that can find the open man, someone that can create his own shot, score in the post, or be a real defensive stopper.

Being patient is fine if there is a plan in place but what is it? Get under the cap and have all our skill players play the same position????

No need to worry about Gallo. He is one of the Knick greats. I think he should stop playing now while he is at the top of his game. the Knicks will surely retire his number, and hang his jersey in the rafters.

Competing for a title? Not yet but since the folks at MSG appear to be making all personnel decisions based on the next free agent market, don't you think it would've made sense to draft someone who might actually contribute to the luring of a big time free agent as opposed to someone who may prove to be a developmental player even beyond next year's free agent signing?

thats a good example of what "high basketball iq" is coming off as. knicks fans are highly skeptical bunch words dont mean as much as seeing it on the court. right now gallo is raising questions but to me he proved he's ready to contribute. he needs to be more aggressive but as many saw in the maccabi team the coach is king. thats the environment gallo is coming from, d'toni coached fiba ball he should know this, and be like gallo you the man i want you to be more aggressive in games, and gallo will.

The fact that they went after two projects doesn't that point to the fact that they aren't putting all their eggs in the 2010 basket. That the 2010 basket of getting under the cap is just a logical step? I mean if MSG "appears" to be making all personnel decisions based on the next free agent market then wouldn't they have followed your logic?

I think 2010 was a logical goal. But you do not draft based on who you think you might get in 2010. It doesn't appear they did. This appears to be more of a fan demand then the GM.

Again if Gallo doesn't develop and we don't get free agents then Walsh will pay the piper. But 28 games in to Gallo's career (in which he clearly had an impact when he played last year)is not time to panic. He's not playing well right now. We all want him to play better. But let's remember that he's just starting. If he has a horrible season then get upset. But why now?

I agree you don't draft for a player that you don't have. But what have we been drafting for is the question. Mike likes using chandler at the 3/4. Gallo 3/4 (more so the four because he can't guard 3's) Lee 4/5

That's exactly right. However, 2010 or not, a 6th overall pick should promise more to me. Surely this is not an exact science and consensus overall 1st picks don't always pan out. However, from what I've seen so far, Gallo is not a 6th pick overall player. His ball handle is not as good as people say. He is not as mobile as people may feel he is. He is hesitant with his game although he didn't show that last year. Could pressure be an issue? Time will tell.

Also, wouldn't you agree in the 'get two birds with one stone' approach would be a good one for our front office? If you pick a 6th overall player, shouldn't that player be a talent that could possibly help lure an all-star player to your team? Even if the pick doesn't help lure an all-star to your team, you should feel good that the future of the franchise is on the right track and in good hands. Don't you agree? It is at this point I feel the Knicks could've spent their pick a little better and why I feel that Gallo is in a terrible position and may not be able to progress at the speed and time he needs in order to develop properly.

Like I said earlier, I don't have a problem with his game. I just have a problem with where we picked him.

Is the above link a peek into the Gallo to come or is this level of play never to be experienced again by him. Whichever way it plays out, I don't think we needed to spend a 6th overall pick in order to find out.

Martice: Gallo has not accomplished anything. You and I agree on this point. He personally does not excite me in anyway. That being said, it's early in his career. Same with Hill. Between our last 3 draft picks they have played a combined total of 28 games. To early to close the books on this one. When Kevin Ollie was freshman I could bust his asse. Twelve years later he's a millionaire basketball player and I"m bragging about the 40 points I scored last night in the Y league to anyone that will listen(allow me to repeat, I went for 40 last night on a surgically repaired ankle). Time and time again we've learned that beginnings don't matter. He was drafted high for a reason. Let it play out before you make yourself angry. This is a great lesson for the TMS happiness thread. Let things reahc their conclusion before you claim them to be a failure.
