i don't see anything wrong with questioning whether d'antoni was the right guy for the job. there has been zero tangible results. nate hasn't matured. lee is still an awesome rebounder - but he was before d'antoni's arrival. gallo is tbd and chandler is hit or miss. what can you really say has changed? and i don't count the circus atmosphere b/c anybody not named isiah and marbury would've done that.

again, 2010 or bust...

Wait so when Blob says building a winner is a process that makes him an attention seeker? What was it in his posts that suggested anything other than a sense of reason when looking at MDA and the current Roster? We all knew this was going to be a two yr waiting process until we could clear cap space, so what has changed?

1st of all it does make sense to get the best coach for your Franchise when he's available. Why putz around with some other guy if the guy you want is free? We also know that only a few of these current players will be here next yr so why not run your system and see who can excel in it? Those who do will stay, also young players need time to learn the game on a higher level. MDA is trying teach these players to really think the game in a new way and be able to recognize all the options on the floor. It may look sloppy now, but one day some will get it and will be better players.

I honestly think that some of you guys actually thought that this roster would win. You won't admit, but you did think it would happen. Now that it's not you are shocked and want someone fired. You wont' admit that you are shocked but you are shocked that this team is not a winner.

Nobody signed on to this situatiion thinking you were turning Marbury, Zach, Craw, Wilson, Lee, Nate, Jerome, jared etc into a winner overnight. If you need guidance as to how to feel about things just listen to what Bip says. From the day the new regime took over you were looking at, at least 3-5 years before you could see this team actually competing. Some of you obviously thought less. This is why Bip is comfortable in his shoes and the rest of ya'll are flippin out.

In your hearts you really didn't beleive we were as much of an embarrassment as we were. You really didn't think our team had sunk into the abyss. You really thought we were a few moves away from competing. There is a reason we struggle to sign free agents and there is a reason we had to clear out the mess first before we could talk about competing. I saw it from the beginning and I'm shocked that so many intelligent people can't see it. Maybe it's because I really am smart and everyone else is dumb. That's the only explanation that makes sense to me.

and they say knick fans aren't patient...

says the man who's downgraded chandler...

haha...

i admit i may have overstated things on chandler, man...

i'm just saying i'm a little concerned with his growth and how he might fit into the team long term given the other players we have at forward.

i like the mayor, but there are questions in my mind about where he fits if we sign lebron.

anyway, that's waaaayyy down the road, and i am not saying "trade chandler now!" at all. if there's a good move involving him, then perhaps it's worth considering, that's all.

you know i am generally one of the most staunch supporters of patience on this forum, i gather, but i am also not overly attached to any one player if it means helping improve the team (either talent wise and/or salary cap flexibility wise) and balancing out the roster.

Did anyone read my orginal post? I never said contender or that I was expecting 50 win plus seasons but again questioning the logic of hiring a big name coach with no name players. Is it not logical to expect that when a team pays a coach to the tune of 10 million dollars a year that they are expecting immediate results?

If Mike says I want to help you rebuild this thing, do you say "no, we are rebbuilding and I want a bad coach to be around for that". Or do you just hire Mike?

Mike didn't approach the Knick's management out of the goodness of his heart he did so because of the big bucks they are paying him. I can't say that I blame him for taking the money 10 million dollars a year would make me do a lot worse things then coach a team of subpar talent.

your logic still doesn't make sense. It's like owning the first pick in the draft and not wanting the best cause your teams sucks anyway.

If an organization is not fully committed to winning what is the point of hiring the best coach available?

We still have some core draft picks that will likely be here in 2010 when we start looking to add FA's. So why not use MDA for these 2 years to train these kids in how to play on a higher level. This way when 2010 comes around the kids will already be indoctrinated in this system.

Also for those feeling down on our rooks, may I repeat yet again that neither Gallo nor Chan really had a full offseason of working on their games to improve. It's unfortunate, but I believe it has stunted their growth a bit. They can make up for it, but to start off this year they're already behind. This doesn't mean they won't still reach their full potential. They still have plenty of time to develop. 21 and 22 yr old kids are not lost causes.

Martin,

Has the Larry Brown saga taught us nothing? If you take a high-profile place him with a sub-par team the results will remain the same because at the end of the day in order to win you need the players. So spending money on a big-name coach is just fools-gold because the talent just isn't present.
Why you say they are not fully committed to winning?

Drafting work-progress at lottery positions, unwillingness to upgrade talent, allowing glaring defiencies to continue (point guard play, inconsistent outside shooting, poor defensive play), should I go on?
