The Nets have a successful move to Brooklyn and will play in an amazing arena financed by billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov. They sign Lebron James. Meanwhile, the Knicks.. well they don't get Lebron. Do you jump ship and become a Nets fan. No cop outs. No "I'll test the waters with both teams." Yes. Or. No.
I will remain a die hard Knicks fan, nothing can break me.
This organization has spat in my face. Brooklyn Nets, Lebron, here I come!

Knicks all the way baby. The Knicks of the early 90's with Xavier McDaniel was a big influence for me, it taught me the passion of the sport. The X Man wasn't exactly a gifted basketball player but man during that Bulls vs Knicks playoff war in 1991 I believe, he lay it all out there on the court. That Knicks team played hard until the end. That passion for the game defined it for me. Ever since then, I bleed orange and blue.

The Nets in Brooklyn would be like the Mets in NY. A secondary team to a bigger franchise in a major city. I might watch them play with Lebron or not as a casual fan but it is not the same feeling when I root for my Knicks.

Knicks are happening and have a Unicorn.

2006-2007: 47 TOR wins 33 NYK wins
2007-2008: 41 TOR wins 23 NYK wins

Toronto had a ton of injuries that 2007 season and ran into the eventual champs in the first rd.

I will always be a die hard Knicks fan because I grew up with the Knicks. But if Lebron went to the Nets I would be much more of a Nets fan than I have previously been. ANd I would be glad when the Knicks spanked his ass in the playoffs.

Of course, Lebron will BE a Knick, so it's all speculation.

I have no understanding as to how this is even a question. It is completely alien to me. To switch teams? You might as well ask me to breath underwater.

Being a fan of a team isnt about supporting a good team.It isnt about winning. It isnt about certain players. Its about being a part of something much bigger then yourself. Its about allying yourself with a certain creed and from that moment on, that is your family. Maybe its because I live in England that I truly understand what being a part of a fanbase is. Maybe in the US things are viewed differently. I still remember the first time I walked out into the Old Trafford sunshine and saw 70,000 people who thought just like me, dreamed just like me and craved victory just like me. Losing or being a bad team has absolutely nothing to do with it. Its about being a part of something bigger.

A friend of mine is a fan of a soccer team called Blackpool. Blackpool havent won anything since the 1960's, and if you asked him why he doesnt switch to another team, he would look at you like you just fell out of the sky.

When I became a Knicks fan in the early '90's, I had reasons. Yeah, my family lives in NY, I spent a few years there, I love the city. But ultimately, I made a choice to put my heart and soul in MSG's safekeeping, irrespective of whether the Knicks succeeded, failed or otherwise.

Anyone who doesnt understand what I mean about being a part of something bigger, listen to the crowd in this clip. For background, Liverpool has just beaten Chelsea to get to the Champions League Final. Liverpool fans sing a song called "You'll never walk alone" before every game. Now, Im not a Liverpool fan, far from it. But listen to the crowd from 1.05. If thats not what being a fan is, I dont know what is.

Sean Bean says it best in this ad for Sky Sports from 1997

"It should be predictable but never is. Its a feeling that cant be explained but we spend our lives explaining it. Its our religion. We do not apologize for it, we do not deny it. They're our team, our family, our life."

Being from Brooklyn, I'm happy that the Nets are moving there and that they will have a wealthy owner and I do want them to do well when they aren't playing for the Knicks - LeBron or no LeBron.

firefly has it nailed. The question posed is better served up in a (NBA) bandwagon city like Seattle, Miami or Atlanta.

To ask such a ridiculous question to a Knicks fan is like asking Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh if they would switch positions and support the President if his Dad was Amish.

Knicks fans don't change. They are the most fiercely loyal fans on the planet.

Lebron or no Lebron.

You want to talk about fans? These fans are hardcore. They live and breathe their team. These are fans of my favorite soccer team in Europe, Olympiakos in Greece. These guys are some of the craziest fans in the world. Hooliganism is one thing (and unsupported by me and many other fans) but when these guys are in a stadium like this just singing different chants and just taking in their team, that is pure love. That's what it means to root for a team.

Thank you, Rick Brunson.

^ GKF, its a beautiful thing when youre in a stadium full of people rooting for the same thing. Thats what being a fan is all about for me. Celebrate when you win, cry when you lose. But to walk away when the going gets tough is simply shameful to me.

And DJ can say all he likes about having given up on the Knicks and becoming a Raps fan, but I know the truth. Theres a reason he still posts here, and it aint the scintilating conversation.

Oh, and Knicksdom, If you could edit your post and remove the extrawide image, that would be just grand. It just annoying, is all.

If your posting on UK, you a knick fan!

Whats important is the Aura in MSG still is the best in the NBA. The arena has certain drama about it.

For me it will always be the early 70's team and the class they had. Even the uniforms were not the flash and clown like colors that many sport teams had. It was fun, but the knicks uni's were serious. Even at home its "New York" on the front! LIke the Yankees you don't change it. The Nets at Nassau never had that Aura. But they had the most exciting player in the world at that time in Dr. J.

The NBA Nets don't have a tradition. My advice to them is build an arena with character, change the name if league lets them, and get Lebron. In a few years things could change.

I don't bleed anyones colors and no team grips me emotionally anymore. Im with fish with the yankees of the 70's, they were very cool to follow with the "Bronx Zoo" era. Might have a lot to do with how old you are when you follow the team and how they are doing. Knicks tradition is not its all that cracked up to be. They had some nice runs but long stretches of not being very good.

Respect goes a long way for me. Giants build thru draft and I like the way the franchise is run. Jets in contrast seem to not get it right (although Rex Ryan and Sanchez might be the real deal!). Yankees are the league class while the Mets are starphuching idiots. I'll never root against the Mets unless they are playing the Yankees, but IM not rooting for the mets cuz I just don't watch much baseball, let alone the mets!

I guess my position is I won't hate on the Nets because I got good history with them.

No I wouldn't. I love my teams. Not sure what else I need to explain. I go through the good and the bad because that's what I want to do and that is what a fan is all about. I'm passionate about my team and have never once felt the need to stop rooting for my team for whatever reason. I don't care for any other sports team in any sports and never will. I grew up a fan of the Knicks, Giants and Yankees and it will remain that way forever. Don't really think this needs elaboration. If you are passionate about your favorite team and are a diehard fan, why would you switch teams? All the fans here have been through Isiah and Layden. If they really didn't care, they would have been gone long ago. Me included. But we stuck around because this team means a lot to us. Hopefully the Knicks can repay our loyalty with a title in the future. NY basketball needs a return to prominence.

I can't believe I agree with you on this..

The Knicks are like that deadbeat guy with 5 kids of wedlock and no job. A lot pain with no rewards. Sure that guy may eventually get a steady job and start taking care of his personal affairs but am I going to be waiting around holding my breath not really. So though I wish the Knicks the best it seems like this organization is stuck on a repeat of failures. Let's face facts the Knicks are a medicore organization that has the benefits of playing in one of the best markets yet they still fail repeatedly at franchise building.

So no I don't have undying allegiance to the Knicks however there is a ton of ****ty basketball being played so I have yet to be overly motivated to switch teams.

I wouldn't necessarily root for the Nets because Lebron signs with them but then again that's because I'm not all over Lebron's jock like most NBA fans. The guy's an incredible player but imo he's not the end all be all that everyone makes him out to be.

i root for the logo on the front of the jersey, not the names on the back of it.

it matters to me who's playing for the team...it's a major reason why i like a particular team.
